11:32 un soundtrack que da una impresión y es simplemente bueno y eriza la piel, cuando Raditz revela el origen de Goku, Vegeta y Nappa llegan al campo de batalla, Goku y Vegeta a punto de pelear, Goku cuando dice Acaso te refieres a Krilin!? Cuando Picolo usa su poder contra Cell imperfect o Goku se rinde o cuando Vegeta Majin noquea a Goku... Simplemente épico combino con esos grandes momentos

Una de las razones por las que Dragon Ball Z fue tan icónico es por este Señor soundtrackazo que tuvo, indiscutiblemente cada pieza quedaba excelente a las escenas, aunque de niño ni le prestaba atención podría decir que todas me las aprendí de memoría, también eso afectó muchisimo a DB Kai y a Super, que ninguno tiene algo que siquiera le pise los talones al OST original
Dbzkai también tuvo algunos de estos OST despues del desastre con yamamoto,mira mí plalyist

1:56:57 esta me da nostalgia, me acuerdo que veia de niño cuando Goku formaba la genkidama, y justo estaba en diciembre ya eran epocas navideñas como ahora, buenos tiempos

todas las canciones son muy buenas pero con mucho respeto, esta es una obra maestra y justo para la genkidama y el final de Majin boo.
Todos estos soundtracks en DBZ resumidamente:
Saga saiyajin (ep 1-35)
(BGM M700-M800)
Primero se usaron los M700 que eran los mas relevantes en ese momento, aunque se usaba uno que otro soundtrack viejo del DB clasico.
A partir del ep 21 se empezaron a usar los ost M800 (Pelicula 1 Garlick jr) siendo los mas relevantes M811, M814 y M816. aunque M700 seguia siendo dominante, aunque no tantos usos por la gran banda sonora de esa pelicula
Saga freezer (ep 36-107)
(BGM M900-M1100)
A partir del ep 44, se escucharon los osts M900 (Pelicula 2 Dr Willow) siendo el mas reconocido M912 que tambien era simbolo de Namek. este y los 2 anteriores eran los mas escuchados. pero los soundtracks M100 de DB clasico empezaron a escuchar mas, como M121 o M109.
Cabe resaltar que en esta saga casi todos los episodios cuando iban a terminar, sonaba el M802, siendo el soundtrack mas sonado en la historia de DBZ (aunque el M1314 lo supera gracias a Z Kai)
A partir del ep 66, se escucharon los osts M1000 (Pelicula 3 Turles) pero ya se habia empezado a escuchar en el especial de Bardock. Aunque tenia gran melodias y geniales. No destaco mucho como los otros 3 pero aun seguia siendo destacada en la saga
A partir del ep 97, episodio donde se destruye namek, se escucharon los osts M1100 (Pelicula 4 Lord Slug), siendo el M1119 el mas recurrente y simbolo en la pelea de goku ssj vs freezer 100%. aunque solo fueron algunos osts porque algunos como M1104 se estrenaron en la siguiente saga:
Saga cell (ep 118-194)
(BGM M1100-M1500)
Los osts de turles casi no se escuchaban aca, al igual que los de dr willow. Pero los 2 primeros (M700 y M800) eran dominantes aun. Con la llegada del M1100 en la anterior saga. Este fue un gran simbolo, destacaron M1103, M1104 y M1119.
A partir del ep 119, se escucharon los osts M1200 (Pelicula 5 El hermano de Freezer, Cooler) que destacaron mucho en ese episodio, sin embargo, estos ya se escuchaban desde el relleno del ep 114, pero lo excluire porque aca tomaron mas relevancia.
En vez de M802, ahora M1213 y M1215 eran los osts cuando terminaba el episodio
A partir del ep 141, se escucharon los osts M1300 (Pelicula 6 Metal cooler), siendo los soundtracks mas representados a Cell, y la 3ra banda sonora mas usada en todo DBZ (Despues de M800 y M700 respectivamente). Este soundtrack tenia mucho misterio y surgio el soundtrack mas usado en todo DBZ y DBZ Kai (BGM M1314)
En este punto los soundtracks M700 y M800 perdieron relevancia ante estas nuevas bandas sonoras
A partir del ep 161, se escucharon los osts M1400 (Pelicula 7 Androides 13, 14 y 15) resaltaron mucho en ese episodio, pero el resto no tanto a comparacion de M1300, aun asi, seguia firme, especialmente M1404 y M1405
A finales de la saga, concretamente el ep 191, se empezaron a escuchar los osts M1500 (Pelicula 8 Broly el ssj Legendario) pero estos tuvieron mejor relevancia en la siguiente saga:
Saga buu (ep 199-291)
(BGM M1500-2100)
si bien el 199 era de relleno y seguia antes de la del buu, la parte final ya era un adelanto de lo que venia la saga buu
El ep 200 empezaron a escuchar los osts M1600 (Pelicula 9 Bojack y los guerreros de la galaxia) y M1700 (Angeles fuimos y el poder nuestro es). siendo los mas relevantes durante esos episodios como M1606, M1615, M1620, M1703, M1708, M1709, etc.
en esta saga en vez de M1213 y M1215, ahora eran M1702 y M1708 los que sonaban varias veces al final de un episodio
A este punto casi no se escuchan los osts M900 y M1000, los osts M1100 y M1200 perderian relevancia, pero M1300 seguia firme
A partir del ep 236, se empezaron a escuchar los osts M1800 (Pelicula 10 El regreso de broly), siendo los principales de la saga buu, asi mismo, los M700 y M800 volverian a destacar en estos instantes.
A partir del ep 246 se empezaron a escuchar los osts M1900 (Pelicula 11 Bio broly y siendo este el plazo mas corto entre una banda sonora a una nueva), donde M1912 seria el mas representado a Buu, y M1914 de los mejores de la saga y en DBZ en general)
A partir del ep 273, se empezaron a escuchar los osts M2000 (Pelicula 12 Janemba y de mis favoritos) M2021 daba un toque tenso a ese Kid buu y los finales de DBZ, y siendo M2016 el ultimo soundtrack de peleas constante.
A este punto los soundtracks M900, M1000, M1100 y M1200 regresaron en algunas ocasiones, como por ejemplo M1020, M1104, M1119, M1208 y M1215 sonaron en la batalla contra Kid buu.
El ep 286 siendo el final del villano, uso al BGM M1420 como el ultimo soundtrack para derrotar al villano de forma epica
Aunque la paz ya estaba, aun no ha terminado la banda sonora...
El ep 289 se empezaron a escuchar los osts M2100 (Pelicula 13 Tapion y Hildegarn), tristemente no se escucharon mucho porque ya eran los ultimos episodios
En 2011 despues de varias acusaciones de plagio a Yamamoto, en Kai se decidio usar los soundtracks de Kikuchi tanto para japon como para al exterior, aunque tuvo 2 versiones, una con todas las bandas sonoras, donde algunas que no se usaron al remplazoo final fueron los M800, M1000 y M2000, y otra que fue la que conocemos que solo incluyo: M700, M1300-1600 y algunos de M1700 y M1800

M700: El dominador musical de esta saga es M700 apareciendo desde el 1er Episodio, varias musicas sonaban casi todos los capitulos ya que eran la única en ese momento aunque algunas del db clasico sonaban. A partir del episodio 21 dejo de sonar siempre pero siguió siendo dominante hasta el final de la saga

M811 is the one that brings me back in time. I remember getting out of the shower on an evening on a school day, and coming to my room to hear this song playing as I had partially missed the beginning of an episode and there was already some battle or drama going on.

I assume you meant that as a dig against Faulconer Productions' use of a synthesizer for FUNimation's in-house English dub score of DBZ, but here's the thing... a synthesizer is a real instrument, and it can be a GREAT addition to a song or a music score in moderation depending on how it's used. Again... as an addition, as an individual element used in conjunction with other instruments to create a full, detailed sound. However... that's not how Faulconer's team went about it.
The problem with that score wasn't so much the general use of a synth machine, but rather the fact that they used a cheapass synthesizer as a SUBSTITUTE for any and all other instruments for the ENTIRETY of the 220+ episodes that that score played in, as opposed to Kikuchi who used a full orchestra for the entire series and, unlike Faulconer's team of amateurs, had at least two decades of experience scoring dozens of TV shows and films alike before even touching Dragon Ball in 1986. The Faulconer score instead relied entirely on a synthesizer and ONLY a synthesizer for well over 200 episodes, and the result is underwhelming at best (and usually is just downright shitty).
And all of that is to say nothing of how unfitting Faulconer Productions' tryhard, "edgy", 90s faux-numetal crap was for Dragon Ball Z, as opposed to Kikuchi's amazing orchestral compositions that fit the wuxia (fantasy martial arts) setting PERFECTLY (his DB score was heavily based on those of '70s Chinese kung fu flicks, several of which Kikuchi actually composed for himself!). Then there's the fact that the Faulconer music just doesn't know when to shut the fuck up and plays CONSTANTLY due to the disrespect the idiots in charge at FUNimation had for kids (they legitimately thought kids had zero attention span and would change the channel if there wasn't some kind of noise happening every single second, a notion that is downright INSULTING), leading to SOOO many awkward, abrupt starts and stops and sudden changes in tone and mood that just ended up creating a chaotic fucking mess.
As does Seiji Yokoyama in Saint Seiya, and, well, a whole bunch of others when they have the budget lol
Problem is DB/Z's soundtrack has always gotten garbage treatment compared to tons of others from the same time period, uniquely garbage in fact (how do you have multiple tracks in mono of all things in the late 80's-early 90's?)

And yea, the problems with the MIDI's they were using are really apparent to me now after 9 years from the last time I heard it (and with the many other scores I've heard since then). The whole replacement scoring practice that the Funimation executives who only got anywhere thanks to nepotism were taking part of (as with Saban, DIC, 4Kids, etc) is fundamentally soulless anyway.
While it may have some elements I'm partial to in there, it's not something I keep in my library for these reasons & more.
(I only know of Kikuchi scoring Sister Street Fighter so far but perhaps there's more.)
But yea, Kikuchi is the true composer for DB/Z in the same way that Seiji Yokoyama is for Saint Seiya (which the US _also_ foolishly replaced), and for many other anime series with their own chosen composers. For one thing, he re-arranges and incorporates the OP's and ED's within the series, and those are what viewers tend to be most familiar with. This may seem mundane or bare minimum but it's really integral to the identity of any series with this convention.
@@gespenst1329 Yeah, the Japanese audio overall (not just the music, but the dialogue, sound effects, etc.) in all the official DVD releases (American, Japanese, or otherwise) has definitely suffered a large decrease in quality due to damage and age, and while I own the FUNimation Dragon Boxes that I bought when they first came out between 2009 and 2011 (and thank god I did considering how monstrously overpriced they're being scalped for these days), I've still settled into using a torrented version of not just Z, but DB, GT, and all the movies and specials as well with Dragon Box quality video and the Team Mirolo original broadcast audio tracks as the premier way to watch the series. Those uploads look AND sound absolutely fantastic, and I can't watch the series any other way now lol (especially since FUNi never released American versions of the Dragon Boxes for DB, GT, or the movies, and their releases of those have terrible video quality...)
It's just a shame that Tōei treats the Dragon Ball franchise so poorly nowadays (almost, if not as badly, as FUNimation does), but the recent AB Blu-ray sets in France that feature the aforementioned Japanese broadcast audio and new GORGEOUSLY remastered video give me hope for further home video releases internationally of similar quality. Only the future will tell...
In addition to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, Kikuchi also scored Toriyama's previous series, Dr. Slump, multiple seasons of Kamen Rider starting with the original in 1971 all the way to ZX in 1984, the original series of Doraemon (which to this day is still a SUPER popular franchise in Japan), the original '60s Gamera films, Getter Robo, UFO Robo Grendizer (a sequel/spinoff to the classic super mecha series Mazinger Z), Casshan, Babel II, Gaiking, Tiger Mask, Sakigake!! Otokojuku, and soooo many other famous movies and shows both animated and live action. Dude was an absolute legend.
What's really funny to me is how super duper attached a loooot of American Dragon Ball fans are to the shitty Faulconer score, and yet it is a uniquely American sentiment. The vast majority of other countries kept the original Kikuchi score in their dubs, and so the vast majority of international fans love that score first and foremost, and it's the music that they primarily associate with Dragon Ball. I have truly lost count of how many Spanish-speaking DB fans (the Spanish dubs famously are very faithful to the Japanese version, with both the original music retained as well as dialogue that's very close to the Japanese scripts, and Dragon Ball as a whole is VERY popular in Spanish-speaking countries, ESPECIALLY Mexico. Gokū is practically worshipped there lol) who I've heard talk about how they grew up with the Kikuchi score and first heard the Team Faulconer replacement score much later, and their first response to hearing that garbage synth music was basically "What the fuck is this shit? This isn't Dragon Ball!" lmao
Like, I'm an American fan who was born in the early 90s and grew up with the FUNimation English dub, even before the Faulconer score started in 1999, back when FUNi was working with Saban and Ron Wasserman and Shuki Levy did the music between 1996-98, but once I was able to watch the Japanese version of the series in the mid-2000s, I realized how much better it was in its original language and never, ever looked back lol. It's just the best, and to me, ONLY way to watch Dragon Ball. And it's really sad and frustrating to me that I'm in the minority amongst American fans, as sadly, the vast majority of American Dragon Ball fans are perfectly content with the immature, amateurish, terribly-produced, written, and acted butcherjobs that are FUNimation's English dubs for the Dragon Ball franchise.
Hands down THE BEST dragon ball Composer Kikuchi was he composed incredible soundtracks that I remember to this day and truly gave the show the old japanese fighting theme style show that Faulconer failed miserably in, I'm soo happy and grateful to grow up with Kikuchi cause the score is amazing and is what made dbz for me rest in peace the great Kikuchi your music will always be in our hearts and never forgotten
I recently filled out info for a 10 CD 50th anniversary collection of his, he was truly great & legendary.
But despite that, even in Japan his works _still_ have not gotten the best possible (or even just standard) treatment, and DB/Z's was unfortunately no exception.
@gespenst1329 that's because it was generic after the original Dragon Ball series. While a great composer it didn't fit Dragon Ball fight scenes. I'm not sure if it was a lack of instruments but the intensity isn't there for a big band production. I always felt it was lacking integral set pieces and could never immerse myself into the fights of DBZ. It felt almost too goofy or too melancholy at times.
@@HansDester Actually, I was just referring to how it gets inconsistent quality releases (some stereo, a ridiculous amount in mono for some inexplicable reason during that time), meanwhile even series by the same studio and label (Saint Seiya) get their soundtracks in consistent quality and with more CD releases, to say nothing of _every other_ contemporary late 80's-early 90's CD release for an anime soundtrack (even for a show from 1980 like Ideon).
It's a common theme with his projects in general, even the 1982 Captain Harlock series he scored (which is a different kind of soundtrack as well) where all the BGM is in mono even though Seiji Yokoyama's 1978 Captain Harlock score is in stereo.

poco se habla del soundtrack de la pelicula de Hildegarn y lo magnifico que es. tiene varios exclusivos que solo se han escuchado en esa pelicula. por ej: el m2109 gohan vs Hilgedarn (mitad inferior) y el 2120 Guerreros Z vs hildegarn cuerpo completo. me gusta porque fueron los ultimos temas nuevos de pelea que nos dejaron, hasta que se termino la saga y se consagro toda la musica.

BTW, M920 is a variation of Piccolo's theme, but what tends to fly over most is the incorporation of D. Willow's theme about 20 seconds into it.
Which is a master storytelling move by Kikuchi since Piccolo is under Dr. Willow's control, and it reflects in the variation as well.

Amazing how many tracks sound similar but each carry such a distinct vibe and feel
Tbh the similarity can be pinned down to most of the tracks being on the F minor key primarily.
But once you look past it, there's lots of themes and really inventive re-arrangements of them, Piccolo's theme being the most long-running and developed of all.
Just right off the bat, the first track that's a re-arrangement wasn't done by Kikuchi himself (it's still the original Yamamoto-arranged Karaoke with alternative instruments in place of the vocals).
But glad you made the effort to outline Kikuchi's work in a 4-hour video (though it would be a lot longer if you included Dragon Ball), kudos.
