  • New reviews coming soon! Sorry I got caught up with my main channel but I won't neglect this one again!
This is part 1 or a 3 part documentary series I made about the Skiathos Cat Welfare Association team as they rescue stray kittens in need on the small Greek holiday Island of Skiathos.
This is where I met Harriet and Jimmy the Greek, the thumbnail is actually little Jimmy not long after I came across him where he was abandoned with his brothers.
The charity needs your help to keep going, you can help by donating at gopb.co/skiatho...
Presented, filmed, edited and directed by Philip Bloom

RUclips algorithm sent me here for the self cleaning litter box video, which led me to watch the microchip feeder video, then explore this one. Could watch your videos and your lovely cats all day!

Thank you! It’s good when the algorithm picks them up. It’s only happened with my two self cleaning litter box videos. I wish more people could see the others. 🙂

Rather than waste money buying material crap for my better half she doesn’t really need for Christmas, I prefer to donate some money in her name to animal causes around the world. One year she adopted a raccoon in Arizona. This year, she’ll be helping kittehs in Skiathos - thanks for the idea ;-)
Beautifully shot and presented Phil, not that we expected anything less.

Wonderful to see you posting videos again. So sad the little kitten didn't make it, poor little mite. Hoping the other five kittens thrived. I cannot understand why people dump cats and kittens. Two of my cats were dumped as 9 week old kittens in the snow to fend for themselves. I fostered them and they are now part of my family. Eight of my ten cats are rescues and I love each and every one of them dearly. Looking forward to watching Parts 2 and 3. You are a kind and wonderful man. I wish more people were like you.

The dumping of animals reminded me that my family fostered a pitbull puppy who had mange and had been tied in a plastic bag and thrown in the dumpster. Someone who knew we sometimes fostered dogs brought him to us and we kept him until he got better. The flavor of one of his medications was clearly sweet and he was very demanding to get to it when it was time to administer it, lol.
The mange dip medicine for his coat required keeping him separated from other animals during that time and we tried. We kept him in my mom's room. But our other dog, Scooby, knew we had a puppy and wanted to play with him. He scratched constantly at the door. So, my mom had enough and just let them meet. Scooby zoomed in and instantly began sniffing Scrappy (yes, how could we not name him Scrappy Doo?) all over. Scrappy got in the play pose and the rest was history. They were inseperable, and thankfully, Scooby didn't get mange as well. But sadly, we couldn't afford to keep Scrappy and so after a few weeks, we found a new home for him. I thought the awful thing that had been done to him was a one-off...it's really sad to know that it isn't and is very common.

Wife and I just adopted a little Saigon street kitten. She is our 3rd. I should be doing some videos about them. I need to take your lead and create a 2nd RUclips channel for my cat videos. I don't want my regular channel to become a cat channel ... These little guys are just great entertainment for just giving them a little attention and care. Our new kitty, BooBoo is probably about 4 mo old, abandoned and a garbage can cat. She's definitely moved up in the social ranks. She won over my other 2 kitties in about days. Life is good.

I just recently found your main channel and watched "Charmolipi - The Joy & The Sorrow" which was so beautifully made. It made me smile but also brought me to tears. You´re an amazing human being! Thank you.
Also thank you that you sharing these stories with us.

Why do people dump animals? All of my cat babies are dumps. They have a book out it on Amazon that help the cat shelter. Harriott got adopted by the film maker. She she very fat and happy. Glad someone is trying to do something.

I'm sorry. 😅 Thank you for posting about the plight of the kittens. I always want to take more in but I just don't have the room. I'm up to eight cats. I'll never turn one away though. People like to toss pets onto my property. I'm guessing their logic is "they have lots of space they can deal with it." That's how I've gotten most of my cats. A few years ago someone tossed a 15 or 16 year old cat out. We kept her. She got a warm home for the last two years of her life.
Sorry for the rant. Again thank you for the wonderful videos. 🐱

To a point. It’s not healthy. Harriet is overweight and she’s been trying to lose weight for ages. She’s slowly getting there. I just really hate the word “fat”. Harriet is so beautiful.

18:15 the poor kitten is probably with panleukopenia or a physical trauma... unfortunately it is in very bad shape. If it is hit by a car or human at least it is not infectios to other cars. It is a very deadly virus, in my country it wipes out more than 50% of the stray cats population in 2-3 months. It is treatable but very expensive and time consuming and the cat must be in good condition, which is not the case with strays. Without treatment - slow and horific dead.

    • @philipbloom
      @philipbloom 3 года назад +3

Yes he was in bad shape. No point speculating exactly what it was, he was very weak and he didn’t make it. Two of the other didn’t make it either and passed away after a few days. Not due to any virus but because they had been dumped without food or water and it had made them weak. It’s so sad.

I was always interested in animals, from young age my house was like a zoo. Most of the animals I was bringing home myself. Now with wife and a kid we have only 2 cats with + - 1 from time to time as a saving operation (found on the street, ooo how cute, bring it home, find new home for it...).
The problem with stray animals is lack of education. People have no idea how to help. People have no idea what is good and what is bad for the animals.
For example - most people believe that dogs eat bones...
