      @@HowtoAutomotive Not a problem. Can you suggest one that better assists with the Evap? I know of a few ways to open and close the vent valve but it'll be easier with a scanner. I haven't been able to achieve it with this scanner.

    Owned one for years and it's always been reliable, I've only encountered one vehicle it did not work with (91 caprice) as it had a odd port which no cable slotted into. I've also used it a bit in the past helping folks with newer vehicles where they would take them down to auto zone/napa/orielys and have a issue asking them to scan it which returned nothing. It can read some dealership level codes but not all of them but that alone makes it very handy. On top of that it's been a blessing for every 95 GM that has come thru with one of the odd "OBD 1.5" computers (connector being OBD 1 with a different pin loadout and the computer being OBD 2) only a few models like this when OBD 2 was coming out and GM had there mix and match going on trying to guess what OBD 2 would be like (also know as ALDL).
    I've never been able to figure out how the graphs work tho (was hoping to finally figure it out from one of these videos). The updates for this device are rare they just don't get much support from Actron but the good news is Bosch also making one of these (but grey and blue color scheme) and update them frequently they are 100% identical and you can load their firmware updates to this Actron.

    The Actron CP9690 has 4 cables for OBDI, Ford, G.M , Chrysler, and 2 for Toyota. It has a cigarette lighter cable. Also a black carrying pouch and instructions. To replace the battery, use something sharp to pry the cover off. Remove the single screw. Warm up the engine if can before testing. After repairs, retest. Check code-connect feature for solutions to the problem. Fix codes for oxygen sensor before replacing the oxygen sensors. Check the radiator level 1st before testing. It can cause hard starting and codes. Check the coolent temperature sensor temperature on live test. A CTS that reads alot lower than outside temperature can cause rich mixtures and high idle. It can cause the electric fan NOT to come on when it should. The KOEO feature turns on the electric fan. It bypasses the CTS to test the electric fan. It sends voltage to the coolent fan relay and fans. This tester checks ABS codes. It will check systems pertaining to THAT vehicle. It may or may not check some things listed on the package depending on vehicle. Other scanners do that also. If the transmission isn't operated by the computer, it won't check transmission codes. This tester can turn check engine lights off. It can reset the oil schedule light.

    Mine is going back on Monday, refuses to 'see' my computer. went to their on-line help page..to the setup page. By slide #2 my screen was missing the 'setup' option, but I had nonsense options like 'keyboard test'. WTF? When their own Help pages don't match what is in my hand...it doesn't bode well. My laptop 'sees' everything I plug in via the USB. Doesn't see this device. Unimpressed.

    I have this same Actron OBD ll Scanner CP9690. I have had it a number of years probably for the last 5 years or so but haven’t used it much being I really never learned how to use it properly. The reason I am here at your video. I also own a OBD ll Actron CP9135 that I have had a very long time that saved me a number of times over many years but I really needed the upgrade. I am having a problem with a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with a PO 320 Code over the last 2-1/2 to 3 years. When it first started I went online to see what I could find online. It pretty much pointed to the Crankshaft Position Sensor or the Camshaft Position Sensor so I purchased both of them. Replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor First but that wasn’t the problem. You see when I first experienced the PO 320 Code the Car died coming up to a Stop sign. And it was then hard to start and when it did to keep it running. Had to use 2 feet to operate the brake and gas pedal to get it home. Anyway getting back to where I was seeing the Cam Position Sensor wasn’t the problem I left it in the car and took the car to my Pole Barn where I own a Car Lift. Raised the car on the lift and moved the A/C Compressor out of the way and replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Reconnected the A/C Compressor and belt and went and started the car. It ran perfect. I had already erased the PO 320 Code with my older Actron CP9135 Scanner. The car ran perfect for 13 months until the Code PO 320 code came on again with the same symptoms so I replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor a Dorman brand part once again. This time the fix lasted 8 months before the PO 320 Code appeared once again. This time I started asking questions from guys I knew in the car repair business. The majority told me they don’t use any Sensors that are not Genuine Ford Motorcraft that the Dorman Sensor probably wasn’t made right so I went and purchased a Ford Motorcraft Sensor this time around and replaced the last Dorman Sensor. This was now my 3rd new Crankshaft Position Sensor I replaced in the car. The Motorcraft Sensor has only been in the car for 5 months and the PO Code 320 is back up again with hard starting and when running trying to keep it running. I have run out of ideas as to what to do next. I did a good visual of the wiring harness going to both sensors and looked at other wiring under the hood. Don’t see any breaks or mice damage that could very well happen. I am out of ideas. Surely I could replace the Crankshaft position Sensor for the 4th time. Thinking about testing out the previous sensors I have used in the car with a multi tester something I never done before being when replacing the Crankshaft Sensor it always took care of the problem. Any ideas anyone out there?

      How to Automotive A mechanic hooked it up to the same one I did years ago. My 95 Camaro is missing real bad, I have replaced the plugs, wires, ignition coils, and the camshaft sensor. A friend of mine is a mechanic and he is eventually going to replace the crankshaft 3x sensor because I couldn't find it. The other crankshaft sensor 24x is behind the lower pully in front of the engine, however he said it wouldn't start if it was that one. At first when I hooked it up it said to check my connections because it wasn't linking up with my vehicle, then after I tried it on my truck to see if it was the scanner it worked on my truck. Then hooked it up to my Camaro and it said no code found. It was late in the day, so I haven't messed with it yet because I'm a little under the weather and we are having a heat wave right now, 109° degrees yesterday so I'll see how I feel soon. Just find a 95 Camaro and hook yours up see what happens 😂😂😂just kidding, thanks for your reply ✌

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 лет назад

      Freddy Cansino hope you feel better soon. After you figure out how to pull the codes I would invest a little time in doing a compression test on the engine. Just to rule out any possible problems. I’d hate to see you put any more parts on the car that has an engine problem

      It’s made by Bosch so it probably is exactly the same just rebranded.

    What torques me off is you have no idea what you're buying, what it does for each vehicle, it's a crap shoot. Per Actron manual...[Not every function will be on the menus for every vehicle. Some functions are vehicle specific, so they will not
    appear on every menu]. I know it will do cylinder miss count on some Fords per YT video. But searched high and low for GM miss counts to no avail. I have the dreaded P0300 and am looking for a scan tool that will read GM miss counts without pulling my kid out of college.

      Yes it can turn off the check engine light. But you want to fix the problem first.
