Next time Mrs. O starts harping on you to fix her car, just remind her: "If I can do it, _YOU_ can do it. And thanks for watching." Then RUN LIKE HELL! :-D
Ok, no joke, I have absolute confindence Mrs. O. can replace that door lock actuator on her own, given she's watched her husband and OneAuto tackle similar jobs (and did the rear wiper herself). Make it happen/film it. :P
She's done several things on the channel as of this day. She's replaced rear wiper motor among other things. She probably knows more about repairing her own car than most people watching this channel just by being around it and working /with/ her husband. People forget she seems to be the one taking in cars, taking customer complaints, and having to write meticulously a lot of details about repairs and such so her husband knows what's going on. She definitely knows what questions to ask at that point.
This episode is hands down one of my favorites. Your diagnostic skills plus years of experience prove to me that I can NOT do what you do. Your integrity and commitment to be the best, plus your love and commitment to your wife and family are why I would pay whatever your bill would be happily. Thank you for sharing your skills, your family values, and saving me hundreds of hours of frustration working on my vehicles. Sincerely, Jim Carmichael
You guys are a hoot! Besides the usual methodical handiwork two memorable moments: 'I barely blew you' (thanks for not editing that out), and Mrs. O's smirk after your claiming there was no other problem - it was absolutely clear that would come back to you. Thanks for all the great content.
Tech Tip for you Eric: "solubility of sucrose in ethanol at room temperature is so small that it can be ignored for practical purposes" = if you use alcohol based contact cleaner to clean sugar based lemonade from the connector, it does not do much. Use water. Sugars are highly soluble to water. When water has done it's task. THEN use alcohol, which is highly soluble to water. When you spray it with alcohol, it will take away the remaining water and connector dries up in seconds.
I can confirm this. At work our resident micro electronics guy used to wash circuit boards in the sink sometimes. Then clean them with isopropyl alcohol. Much to my surprise it often did the job. We didn't have access to an ultra sonic cleaner back then.
Or, water rinse followed by compressed air blow gun drying. Since you’re going in with water, use CRC 14416 HydroForce. Makes water wet the surface like it was old-school electronics wash.
LMAO!! Y'all are to funny together!!! I cannot believe you didn't have to cut the video and roll on the floor after Mrs. O's comment! You are pure professional Mr. O!
they better watch being so funny, could be paying for a bunch of funerals, caused by folks choking to death from laughing so hard.. I was nearly victim #1
You guys are such a cute couple. I love watching you interact. And Eric is a damn good mechanic who actually knows how to diagnose a problem, not just throw parts at it. Love your channel.
I ran across this channel by accident and have been binge watching it. I’ve learned a lot, and laughed more. I live in Maryland and we have our rust problems here as well so I know you’re not lying about it. You gave an awesome family and a great and honest business. Rare thing in these time. Keep up the great work.
*A note to RUclips viewers:* Content creators spend a lot of time, money, and effort to post these videos that you enjoy so much. Juggling cameras, planning a shot so that something can be presented clearly, then editing it all so it makes sense easily doubles and triples the time it takes to do it. It's a labor of love and time taken away from what feeds his family. Just because you binge watched a hundred of his videos or donated $2 to Patreon does NOT make you his close personal friend. His business phone is for his customers to interact with him. It's NOT a Hotline for you cheap-arsed self-centered "I need instant gratification" bleepers to pester him or beg for his hard won knowledge and experience. Let's say a crap ton of people called YOU at work while you flipped burgers and asked about seasonings or safe cooking temps or "Should I wash my hands before or after mixing the meat?"... How long would you put up with that? Even his lovely wife, the mother of his children has to wait months in line to get her ride fixed. Do you think you are more important? Leave the man alone and let him catch up! Post your question here and maybe he or another mechanic will answer you. Your best bet is to find an online forum for your car and read/post there. Chances are your problem has already been addressed. However, if after reading hundreds of posts and watching a dozen videos and you _still don't get it_ then maybe you should not be fixing it yourself, anyway. The only way to get better informed than these videos is to go to vocational school yourself or be a live audience member five feet away and get smacked upside the head when your attention wandered. Now, Eric is like a brother to me (we don't talk and have stricken each other off our Xmas card list) and I ,along with many thousands of folks around the world, would like for Eric and other great video makers to continue doing what they do. If they were to quit due to you ass-hats calling up to ask how to change a spark plug then you will no longer need to even ask that question as a large group of irate fans will track you down and toss your car into the nearest lake. Capish? _The opinions and views expressed in this comment are not necessarily the views of South Main Auto_ ...but they should be.
The two of you were made for each other. As an old retired Mechanic I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, and listening to the two of you banter back and forth.
Mrs O: "I barely blew you." Eric chortles like a schoolboy. Somehow, there's always a little of our 11-year-old self remaining, no matter how old we actually get.
Wrap that bad boy connection with tape Eric. You know them kids ain’t done spilling yet. Mrs O has such confidence in your abilities. A job well done. Tracing the circuit and finding the easiest way to diagnose and repair the problem is a good practice. A job well done.
What is it with people ? Five thumbs down ? Why? Interesting problem, split the circuit down to isolate , then fix. Little bit of banter between a couple who obviously are in love and people complain ? Made for a nice numerous tea break on a Sunday afternoon amidst the chores. Keep on as you are , it's nice to see and watch.
Great funny video with great trouble shooting info!! Reminds me of our gran daughter when she was smaller and rode in "The Princess van"....{SHE calls it that}...after she rode in it there were LOTS of "unknown" things on the floor and her seat......cheese stick wrappers, gum, little fishes, cracker crumbs, soda or/and juice stains..............etc. Your family is adorable!! Mrs. O is to be commended for her knowledge, resourcefulness and courage to try to fix stuff shes never done before!! She does show that yes many car repairs can be done done by "anyone" Thank you all!
I LOVE that you included a cricket in the soundtrack for ambience, and that meditative quality. And yes, Mrs. O - we ARE real oot here. And we love your contributions.
The lovely Mrs O is the perfect foil for your conversation of this issue or any other for that matter. May the anniversaries of your marital perfection continue.
My wife's SRS light was on too. Raised the power seat and found 2 Barbie's 1/2 eaten cheese burger and a hand full of fries. Removed all the kids stuff, cleaned the connection and light went out. Told her this is why we spent the money scan tool.
Man your wife got that roast fest going on man. Yall both have the most awesome relationship ever. I call her the positive roaster because she pounds you down in great confidence then she pounds you down for you not having it. God is good man! Love your videos a ton!
This was by far my favorite SMA video yet. I couldn’t stop laughing at the banter between you and Mrs O. I never knew one could have so much fun without using cuss words. You two are the best. Thanks for the laughs.
What an awesome video first we find out we don't exist them Mr O is huffing contact cleaner and then we have Mrs O's remark, many chuckles in this one That was one of your best,
I really like your simple intro, Sir. No crazy music or annoying graphics. And your knowledge and experience is second to none. As far as I'm concerned, Scotty and Eric are on the same level. But I've seen Eric do more complex jobs than Scotty.
Very good troubleshooting .... isn't it amazing what causes problems in vehicles !!!!!! Something so simple as a coke to light up the trouble codes !!!! It was so nice that Mrs. O was right by your side for moral confidence support all thru the job !!!!!! Well done !!!!!
"You can do it" and "I barely blew you". I love the way Vanessa can bring humor, wisdom and a bit of humility to the videos and your life. Oh, then their is Trinity who "didn't do it". O my gosh, how classic. I can't get on her however, she did give up her room for an overnight guest. :)
Mrs O did you not learn anything from the timing belt? You put it on the book so he has time to do it. That's a win-win for you and for fans of SMA. You get door fixed, and we get a video. As Charlie Sheen said during his little breakdown, "WINNING!"
Sitting at home with a broken knee, can do nothing else then sit on the couch an watch some. Never thought that watching car repair video's is that entertaining. I'm not only learning to fix cars, everytime a new video starts I have a smile on my face and think, what will we fix now. May I tell you that you explain the car repairs in such a way it is not only very entertaining but even for me, no clue what so ever on car repairs, understands everything..And yes, you married way out of your league.. :) And yes, you shouild fix everything Mrs. O tells you to fix...!
Good process! How about we do some prevention by putting some grease and/or duct tape over the connector top? Also note of the goop was water-based, electrical cleaner is not the best choice. Use some plain water to dissolve that crud.
“I don’t know” did it. That is confirmed. But “barely blown” was just perfect. Love your channel, Eric. And you owe me a new computer keyboard. After spewing a mouthful of Dr. Pepper all over it. Jeez. 👍👍
Thanks to you I hunted down a Launch Pad II and I bought it :). I then bought the Snap On Verus Pro D10; I currently own these and I have the Autoenguinity Pro scanner tool that has been sitting in the bag for at least 2 years now, I should sell that crap. I later realized that when I upgraded to the pro, these guys did not say anything about modifying my OBD II adapter to be compatible with wireless, I simply thought the feature had not been enabled back then and that I'd just had to wait, soon realized that it wasn't available on my adapter, what a hack they are lol, had to call them and tell them about it, shipped it to them and when I got it back it worked but I still did not use it lol
No criticism - you are and ACE diagnostic technician - I really believe I learn something from each of your vehicle repairs. It has been some time since I have worked on my vehicles , that being said , I must enjoy the challenge of diagnosing problems and fixing because I am still working on my own vehicles. Thanks for making your videos on RUclips and sharing some of your wealth of vehicle knowledge - you are quickly bringing me back up to speed for logically troubleshooting and chasing down ANY vehicle problem. 👍👍👍🤔✌️✌️
I agree with the others who said that brake cleaner would have cleaned it quicker and I was surprised you didn't try it first. LOL Soapy water is the best for cleaning sugary residue. The operators of the material handlers where I worked often spilled soda or coffee that would get into electrical connections or on circuit boards. After having to replace one board that cost $2,500 because of spilled coffee, the company banned any liquids inside of the cabs.
Mrs. O sounds like she has a Masters degree in Phycaligie. She empowered you!!! Most people would have said I just stroked your ego!!!!LOL!!!! Good job Erick, finding the problem so quick. I, myself, hate tracing electrical problem. Wire diagrams drive me bonkers... but you make it look so easy to do....
I usually use a cup of boiling hot distilled water to dip the connectors in separately, to completely dissolve whatever the product was..usually water based, blow em out, then contact cleaner.. Excellent troubleshooting and diagnosis as always Eric. I’m addicted to your vids!-) And the “sweet” ending and psychology of asking about it was a great bonus!-)
After all that and the strong likelihood of it happening again, I would recommend wrapping good electrical tape around the entire top & bottom wiring harness & electrical connectors to form a "shield" when more liquids make their way down that path again. You could also just fill the entire top of the electrical connector where the wires enter into it from the top connector, with dielectric grease too -- would reduce the chances of any liquids working their way down the connector again too.
or use good old silicone sealant to seal it up, I've done that on many door harness after cleaning and repairing. Hyundai was real bad at that, enough that I started silicone sealing them ahead of time, I did put dielectric silicone in the connector too, belt and suspenders :)
I used to use the tubes of silicone sealant too on these types of issues, until the vehicles that I had used that method on started coming back a few years later for other issues & I had to dig all that old silicone sealant out before I could even start working on the new issues. That is when I went to the electrical tape method and if the connector body is a small enough then will just slip a piece of large heat shrink tubing over the entire harness & connector, and create a shield that way. With either the electrical tape or the heat shrink tubing, I spend less than a minute getting it back to the factory wiring connections, rather than spending 10's of minutes picking all the silicone out of the back of the multi-cavity connectors.
I used to hate distraction, but now I welcome it. It takes me to a different place and then I go back to the task on hand and I'm fresh. Learned that one. Walk away from working on a Ford and grab a new perspective.
I the way love the way you and Mrs. O interact, you're obviously made for each other (reminds me of me and the missus), you're doing a great job bud, keep up the good work and God bless!!
My wife is the same way. It’s one of the things about being a Tech. We tend to fix EVERYTHING ourselves and therefore our wives expect us to be able to fix everything. Toss some stabilant 22 on those terminals too.
Crc is my goto for anything electrical, they are usually oil based. But soda is water based, so a little warm water would hit the spot. And would need even less blowing.😀 Another great video!
I like to work in my little woman cave too! I can't stand people either, especially while working. I don't like to be distracted when I need to be focused on the job at hand. I love the interaction between Vanessa & Eric! "I barely blew you" 😂😂 hilarious!
I do mobile automotive repair and I have the customer watching all the time, it's good and bad they see the going into the vehicle, but they also see something if I miss you
She barely blew you....that's obvious by the 3 kids lol. Oh and it wasn't me that said that. Nope not me also resides in my home. And the douche does it again! Thumbs up as always! Have a happy labor day weekend to you and your family! You had the battery unhooked bro! And where's the brake clean bro?
I didn't know you had someone named "I don't know I didn't do it" living in your house?! I think I had his sister, ("not me!") when my daughter was young! Interesting how your daughter quickly threw her brothers under the bus also! Funny.
King Eric you are correct in diagnosing any electrical problem isolating the circuit(spliting it in half) is 100% key in finding the problem quickly! May the car gods smile down their favor upon you! cool vid!
Hey Eric Love The Videos Especially With Your Wonderful Family. That's why I have to mention that I noticed what might possibly be a lump on your wife's neck. I'm certainly not a doctor, but I recall a doctor seeing this problem on a woman who aired on a television show. He was able to inform her & she did have a thyroid issue. ALL THE BEST!!!
Personally, I just walk away. I don't trust myself to work on anything mechanical on my car, so I trust the professional, just like other people trust me to fix their electronic stuff. Which is not to say I couldn't do it in a pinch, but I don't have the reassurance which comes with experience to do it with confidence. I'd still get a mechanic to double check my work once out of the pinch. Let's not forget this is a highly skilled trade and getting something wrong can get one killed.
I"d be one with the thousand questions, and I love to watch. SMA is a channel that I can watch so I don't "have to watch" (OCD) and I get answers without asking questions! :D
When you found the gunk in the connector I thought for sure we'd hear (DA-DA) and see the brake cleaner in hand.. I have more, but I am sure others have already nailed it!! lol....
LAUNCH X431 Diagun IV Auto All Systems Diagnostic Tool OBD2: amzn.to/2Ppzgag
As always Eric. Great work, how about Mrs O doing garage calender. Sold buddy in uk . Think yoj two are amazing
South Main Auto Repair m
Taping up the top connector might prevent it from happening again.
You too are cute!
Does this diag tool have a place to reprogram tpms sensors?
Next time Mrs. O starts harping on you to fix her car, just remind her: "If I can do it, _YOU_ can do it. And thanks for watching."
Then RUN LIKE HELL! :-D
Ok, no joke, I have absolute confindence Mrs. O. can replace that door lock actuator on her own, given she's watched her husband and OneAuto tackle similar jobs (and did the rear wiper herself). Make it happen/film it. :P
She'll say "If I can clean house, YOU can clean house."

This is hysterical! Perfect response!
and plan on no boobies for a few days....lol
Cleaning a connector ehhhh but listening to the husband/wife dialogue pure classic goodness.
AMEN to that. :)
😎
I agree 100%. Definitely put a smile on my face. And was a lesson to me to treat my wife with the same love and respect.
right!! "sit in you're chariot woman" !! lmao
So much fun. Thank you.
I hope you wake up each morning Eric & realise how blessed you are!!
This episode is hands down one of my favorites. Your diagnostic skills plus years of experience prove to me that I can NOT do what you do. Mrs O is awesome and funny. You're a lucky man..
totally, she is great! I love their back and forth.
I second those exact words. God has truly blessed you and your family.
I watch your videos while lying in bed, trying to go to sleep and laugh & laugh. You’re the best mechanic I’ve never met.
Whoa. Chemistry lesson. On a car channel. These cross curricular exercises are wild.
The same for brake fluid. For years I did not realize this until my nephew told me. Wasted alot of chemicals cleaning up after leaky brake cylinders.
Nice Tip Bro thx
I can confirm this. At work our resident micro electronics guy used to wash circuit boards in the sink sometimes. Then clean them with isopropyl alcohol. Much to my surprise it often did the job. We didn't have access to an ultra sonic cleaner back then.
Or, water rinse followed by compressed air blow gun drying. Since you’re going in with water, use CRC 14416 HydroForce. Makes water wet the surface like it was old-school electronics wash.

The dialogue between you and Mrs. O. is the best part of this video. You are both lucky to have each other.
You guys are such a cute couple. I love watching you interact. And Eric is a damn good mechanic who actually knows how to diagnose a problem, not just throw parts at it. Love your channel.
The back and forth bantering between you 2 is great. My mechanic and his wife are a team too.
The banter between the two of you is worth the price of admission alone!
I love the back and forth banter between Mrs.O and Mr. O

Good fix! Mr. and Mrs. O, never loose that love. You two are good for each other! Mrs. O you seem to be more at ease on camera. You are fun!
I use the same product sprayed on a rag or qtip to clean computer contacts!
love to see more of you two working together, very enjoyable.
rickey gresham you are right. They should do more videos together. A great team 👍🏼

At @16:00 to answer Mrs O's question, yes some of us are real. You are a most blessed man to have a wife like her, that supports you.
Right on!
n8pu but we are all taken!!
The two of you were made for each other. As an old retired Mechanic I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos, and listening to the two of you banter back and forth.
That cricket is hanging out in your shop just in case you tell a joke. 😆
Should have put that cricket to work holding those contacts in.
Having parents like you two makes your kids the luckiest people in the world.
Love watching all of these videos. It’s fun to see the age progression. Trinity gets bigger, Mr O gets more grey, but Mrs O never changes a bit!
I’m betting that the number of views equals the number of people that read the comments on this one. Mrs O is the best. Mr O is a lucky man.
What a great interaction between you and your wife. “You don’t need to keep bringing it up every three to five months” Mind if I use that?
The banter between you and the Mrs. is just priceless.
Mrs O: "I barely blew you."
Eric chortles like a schoolboy.
Somehow, there's always a little of our 11-year-old self remaining, no matter how old we actually get.
I will grow old but I will never grow up.
Yes and best part is when she realizes what she walked into by herself lol
"That's what she said!"
Eric is not old lol, he has grays but he's still a young lad lol
18:54 They stray into RUclips trouble! SMA Channel(rated R)
She is saying all the right things. What a great wife and team member to have on your side! Empowering for sure!!
27:33 The way Mrs. O is looking at you... Now fix her door.
Wrap that bad boy connection with tape Eric. You know them kids ain’t done spilling yet. Mrs O has such confidence in your abilities. A job well done. Tracing the circuit and finding the easiest way to diagnose and repair the problem is a good practice. A job well done.

This has to be an all time great video! The "I barely blew you" comment knocked me off the chair!! Great learning, great entertainment! Thanks!
I LOVE that you included a cricket in the soundtrack for ambience, and that meditative quality.
And yes, Mrs. O - we ARE real oot here. And we love your contributions.
What a great video. I learned, I laughed, and Mrs. O's van got fixed. Awesome.
The lovely Mrs O is the perfect foil for your conversation of this issue or any other for that matter. May the anniversaries of your marital perfection continue.

"I barely blew you!" Hehehehehehe... I could almost see the look on your face, Mr. O! I wouldn't have missed that one for anything!
What an awesome video first we find out we don't exist them Mr O is huffing contact cleaner and then we have Mrs O's remark, many chuckles in this one That was one of your best,
Eric! Absolutely your best video ever!! Mrs. O and Trinity. Pure awesomeness! It’s why we love you!
Yes, Mrs O, we are real. Your encouragement has to be at least half of his motivation. Thank you.
"Want to get rid of them?" Spoken like a true mother.

I think we need a "day in the life of Mrs. O," raw and uncut office footage, talking to customers and shooing away needy RUclipsrs

Awesome chemistry between you and Vanessa Eric, don't ever let her go cause honestly you two are the best.
Hahahahaha she barely blew you. RIGHT ON.
Thought it was a family show.
Debbie downer ruining society per usual.
She was SAVAGE LOL ... LOVE IT.
I hate when that happens! Full blow or no blow at all!
Who?
Amazing video! Not just a tutorial about fixing the issue but also living the good family life!

These are fun. For the lock actuator I vote for Mrs. O to fix and you behind the camera! Thanks guys!
Good process!

Should be able to fix that right up with some CRC electrical contact cleaner!
" I don't know " , must be " not me's " cousin ?

That was one of the funniest episodes you have done - listening to you and Mrs. O go back and forth is priceless!
"I just blew you a little bit..." spits coffee at computer screen. You two are the best couple I've seen.
Yes Mrs O we are REAL !!
BOB Jones : Oh really!!!
This was better than a movie!
I'm still rolling
Mrs O is a hoot!!! And she listens intently while you explain the tech speak of open circuit.
Good old dielectric grease will keep the schmoo out!
I was this many days old when I found out that slot in those caps is for hose storage. *mind blown THANK YOU FOR YOUR AWESOME VIDS!
Back again......airbag? Meh take the bulb out, just kidding.... or am I?
Oh and nice to hear the cricket again
Oh and I’m real!
Omg barely blown😬
I actually understood the electronics. There's hope. You're a lucky man Eric O.
Clear out the service bay. Mrs O needs a repair . Get it done.
Ok, you blew my mind there when you clicked the little red nozzle onto the lid of the can. I never noticed the little grooves before!
Your lucky you get a reminder every 6 months.i get it every 20 minutes. Lol
Yeah, what's with that?
@@don7406 they always think there a problem mean while its the car driving next to her. Lol
You’ll miss it when she’s gone.
I love it.... sounds like my wife and I. 39 years and she still does the same thing....😊
So is Mrs O can believe you can do it then we believe you can do it welcome to the Mrs O inspiration channel
Crc is my goto for anything electrical, they are usually oil based.
But soda is water based, so a little warm water would hit the spot.
And would need even less blowing.😀
Another great video!
I'm gonna make my wife watch this. So she knows she not to bug me more frequently than every 5 mo. Nice "Ivan" no parts fix.
Love how relaxed and comfortable everybody is now.
I like to work in my little woman cave too! I can't stand people either, especially while working. I don't like to be distracted when I need to be focused on the job at hand.
I love the interaction between Vanessa & Eric! "I barely blew you" 😂😂 hilarious!
Just a little toot haha
Same reason her door isn't fixed yet.... Hahahahaa....
yeah it's hard to focus with kids around.
The wifey interaction is great. Lucky man right there.
May the car gods smile down their favor upon you! cool vid!
That Classic line ( i barely blew you) .
I truly enjoyed this one
Look out..air gun is loaded
The commentary in this video was gold.
this is why i don't like customers watching me,they ask a thousand questions, lol
I have more, but I am sure others have already nailed it!! lol....
