lots of ways to skin a cat. I personally pulled the exhaust, strut that goes from frame to case in front of tank, and completely removed oil lines from engine and tank. If it was a nice shiny (painted or chromed) tank I would cover it all with tape to avoid getting scratches as it gets knocked around a bit in the process. Knowledgeable video - thanks.
This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again for putting these out and making our lives easier. I was wondering what year that bike was. Mine looks just like it (2008 Night Train), but my bolts behind the splash guard are different. Hello, If I need to remove the starter... Do I need to fully pull the the oil tank all the way out, or can I just move it out a few inches or enough to get the 2 hex screws out?

Great video👍🏽. I blew the return line and vent line on my 06 deuce and now they’re leaking oil. Can overfilling the oil tank cause this? It was 106 degrees here in San Jose California the day it happened. Also the lines spark when you touch them. F*#* crazy ! 😆

Craig....you can tape a shop rag to the outside of the tank before you start pulling & pushing, and as long as you finesse it out & back in, you should be good...👍
This is the best video for this job, just because I have a ‘07 Nightrain. But still, it’s ridiculous that you need to remove the oil tank, just to losen the starter, witch is attached to the inner primary cover, witch i need to remove to pull the rotor out😡🥵 and that all for a stupid little ramp of aluminum😩
Hi! This presentation is very interesting, however, I am looking for a video showing how to remove the oil tank from an Evo FXSTC 91. Maybe you could help me for the right procedure. Thank you very for your consideration. Patrick

your right about the money thing.... CREAM=Cash Ruels Everything Around Me. I just had a finned oil built by Motor X and trying to find information on the motor inlet outlet and vent size, thread pitch and lenght. I'm having no luck.
Hey man on my Harley 48 2018 the oil cap is STUCK. I push down and it should simply pop up, mine for some reason is literal stuck into place I’ve tried pushing turning super fast pushing lol and nothing works at all. It’s very frustrating and obviously I need it to work to perform a oil change , have you seen this issue? Recommend a way I can fix it?

Looks like my oil drain line from the tank just started leaking. Do I have to do all this procedure just to replace the drain line? If I replace it, would replace the whole line. Looks like it is made up of 3 lines, Oil Drain elbow, drain hose, and lower drain hose.
Hard to say with out being there, but I would be inclined to only replace the leaking part. Ride safe & Ride Often! Great video! Just don't know if I can follow the instructions of someone that doesn't know the difference between electrical tape and duct tape. Just kidding. The video was great and super informative. Too bad this all has to be done just to remove 2 bolts on the inner primary plate to replace a belt. Talk about a horrible design!

Why don't you tell people the truth on this job instead of making it sound easy. First of all, Virtually NO ONE sells a long extended 1/4 inch hex long enough to do the job. It's no wonder you made your own. They only sell them online but when you already have your bike torn apart, you don;t have time to order online. Then, there's the issue with the wiring harness. You make it sound like it's no big deal to just move it out of the way. BULLSHIT! They won't budge, even with the zip ties cut off. I suggest you give a difficulty rating so one can make an informed decision on whether or not to do the job themselves. For a professional, it's probably easy but if your not, it's damned near an impossibility. Now my bike is torn down on my driveway with parts everywhere and it's going to rain tomorrow. I need a traveling mechanic.
I’m an beginner/amateur mechanic. I did it solo with minimal tools in my garage this video and a service manual. Keep the faith brother I believe in you. You can do it. Easy? No. Not impossible
Without a doubt one of the best How To videos of its kind. Made my repair job go so much easier. Great job!
7 years later I found this video I have to replace my starter and this video is completely detailed thank you 🙏

Craig....you can tape a shop rag to the outside of the tank before you start pulling & pushing, and as long as you finesse it out & back in, you should be good...👍
Rick Kemner thanks! I was also thinking of masking with blue painters tape.
I was wondering if you have a video of replacing oil drain hose ? Thanks
Great video. I have same bike and I wanna remove oil tank and then take start motor out. Do you have full video that? Thanks you video
Sure do: gumroad.com/l/harleystarter
This is the best video for this job, just because I have a ‘07 Nightrain. But still, it’s ridiculous that you need to remove the oil tank, just to losen the starter, witch is attached to the inner primary cover, witch i need to remove to pull the rotor out😡🥵 and that all for a stupid little ramp of aluminum😩
That’s why I’m here.
Pro top: Zip-tie accessory and ground cables to make forgetting one impossible.

Do the bolts on the top of the oil tank need any kind of sealant? The two top bolts on my 2000 Fatboy leak oil pretty good.
Nice video. Too bad mine is a 95, but I believe this is enough. Fukking starter clutch!
Thanks much
Hi! This presentation is very interesting, however, I am looking for a video showing how to remove the oil tank from an Evo FXSTC 91. Maybe you could help me for the right procedure. Thank you very for your consideration.
Patrick
Some might want to use this if you want to actually drain your oil tank. It's up to you: amzn.to/2aJ0CWw
This video is a lifesaver!!!!! Thank you!!!
Love hearing that!!

😎 video just what I needed to complete my project
your right about the money thing.... CREAM=Cash Ruels Everything Around Me. I just had a finned oil built by Motor X and trying to find information on the motor inlet outlet and vent size, thread pitch and lenght. I'm having no luck.
Have you come up with the best fix for the front plug wire rubbing the fuel tank to the point of exposing the wire?
+Andy Kendrick We weren't aware of the issue. We will check into that and get back to you.
+Ryan Urlacher check your sgs front plug wire were it touches the tank.
What's the best way of replacing that oil drain hose without taking the whole tank out
Hey man on my Harley 48 2018 the oil cap is STUCK. I push down and it should simply pop up, mine for some reason is literal stuck into place I’ve tried pushing turning super fast pushing lol and nothing works at all. It’s very frustrating and obviously I need it to work to perform a oil change , have you seen this issue? Recommend a way I can fix it?
Do you have a video on a 1200 sportster custom 96 for this same thing
enjoyed the video help me out thanks!!!👍👍👍
Great video man. Really helpful cheers

Will a night train rear fender fit on a 2005 deuce?
Great video
I know this is an older video, but in the event someone is doing this job, on a newer bike mine was a 2016 softail and there is absolutely no way to remove that tank without dropping the factory exhaust, and even then good luck not scratching it, just thought Id mention that
nice, I could not find the torque specs in my manual or here
Very helpful thanks
Great Job, Thank you.

I have a really bad oil leak and my bike is sputtering and stalling
Could you not just replace the pinch clamps with regular hose clamps? Seems like that would make it easier to install than the pinch clamps.
I was wonder that too.
@@monavieforal I ended up using hose clamps and it was way easier
Thanks. That’s what I’m going to do then too!
Replacing starter motor clutch
No need for blue thread lock??
nope
They are called oetiker clamps.

Thank you, glad you liked the video.

Great video
