Both manage to blend seamlessly well in my head. Update: You know what? This is the best song in the musical. People may say it’s either “Ease on Down the Road” or “Everybody Rejoice (Brand New Day) or “Believe in Yourself”, but I think it’s this one.
I saw her perform this on Broadway as a young boy who often ran away to NYC. I was somehow two rows from the stage, and when the lights came on, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was sitting next to me.
I was lucky enough to see Audra McDonald as Dorothy in this show when she was still in high school performing at the local dinner theater where I worked in college. Every night I would watch her killing it…we all knew she was special, even then.
I saw the off Broadway version the traveling show. Ms. Martine Price played Dorothy and she gave you every bit of Stephanie mils voice and was petite like Stephanie. The whole cast was incredible
I've never gotten past being peeved that she didn't play "Dorothy" in the film version. I always loudly proclaim that the Broadway version is a light year's better and Stephanie Mills singing of the songs has made me cry many times. No one sings "Home" like she does. I also loved all the songs & the other singers on the Broadway cast album. I never tire of listening to it. Ms Mills is truly up there with the great voices of our times. She also put out some great songs on her own albums through the years.

This song suddenly popped into my head a few days ago, and I had to listen to it. It brought back memories of me, as a teen, and my six siblings, up on "3 high" (the third floor of our home where my oldest brother had his bedroom.) We'd play this soundtrack and belt out all of the songs with so much passion, as if we were the characters on stage singing!!! We knew every single song, musical interlude, beat, everything!!!! NOBODY SINGS THIS AS WELL AS STEPHANIE MILLS!!!!!! I still have my original album soundtrack. Love this. We loved being together and loved music. Thanks mom and dad for giving us the love of music!!!
