"Based on a True Story" is generally a pretty dubious claim for a movie to make. Hollywood is notorious for taking things that actually happened and throwing in enough flashy stupidity to keep the lowest common denominator distracted from how overpriced movie tickets are.

In To Hell and Back the studio had to tone down Audie Murphy's actions because they didn't think people would believe it was true otherwise. Audie Murphy was a total BADASS and a legend.

Based on a true story, as a phrase, has gotten so watered down that it's basically meaningless. More often than not it means they partially based the very basic idea for the movie on something and often very, very loosely. What's bad is people who think it means the movie is a freaking documentary in it's accuracy and it happened exactly like the movie shows.

Coolest part of Audie Murphy was that he called the artillery in on his own position with atop the burning tank and held the Germans at bay for 2 hours! After the war, at a hollywood party before the start of his acting career, there was a big actor known for playing muscle bad guys who starter to slap his date around, a little short baby-faced kid came up to him and told him to knock it off, something about the kid scared him, and when the actor asked who that was he was told that' Audie Murphy CMH winner.

HDGoofnut He was a great guy though (less of a prick like Charles Upham), helped make PTSD better understood.
A bit off but the fight against 100 was different then the film, more rugged terrain with few gaps too attack making bottlenecks and low mist.
He also penned a sequel too his film but it didn't go anywhere... not very heroic I guess with the drugs and violent outbursts.

Some investigators believed Gein was responsible for a number of strange disappearances in both la Crosse and Plainfield Wisconsin, since Gein frequented both areas ( Living outside of Plainfield.) Gein's brother Henry died under mysterious circumstances in 1941, Ed was never charged or considered a suspect because of his seemingly harmless nature.

4:50 He does actually try to woo her in a similar fashion on multiple occasions. The first time he meets her he puts a toothpick in her waffle house (no sexual pun intended) to make a swivel for the door. The second time he meets her he tries the same thing and even bets the cook of the restaurant they are in that it will work. This is a romcom so obviously it doesn't work and so he then tries to win her over in a different way each day.

I could always relate to Audie Murphy. He tried just about anything to get into the military although he kept hearing "No". Same with me the reason why I keep hearing no is because I have Keratoconus in my left eye. 34 years old and I still haven't given up. Even though my window of opportunity is closing I still won't give up. I still have until I am 39. The way I see it I only need to hear yes only once and I can hear no maybe 1000 times. If I reach the limit ok I will give up but not until then.

The Jersey shark attacks included the shark swimming up a river and eating a boy (or biting off his leg). I don't quite recall off hand if the boy survived.

I have a book about the Jersey Shore shark attacks. One of the victims was a child. It was really horrific.
Also, Audie Murphy survived more than just World War II. He grew up in poverty and an abusive home, but did not let them stop him. His father abandoned the family and his mother died when he was just in his teens. He quit school in the fifth grade and worked to support his family. His older sister helped him falsify documents so he could join the military because he was just 16. He tried joining the Army, the Navy, and the Marine Corps, but was repeatedly turned down due to his weight. He tried the Army again and was successful. He fought in Italy and France and earned a chest full of medals. He went on to a successful movie career and also was a songwriter. He battled PTSD and became addicted to sleeping pills. He refused to appear in ads for cigarettes and alcohol because he did not want to set a bad example. Unfortunately, he died in a helicopter crash in 1971 when he was just 45 years old. He was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a true hero.

Audie Murphy was not an American Soldier of WWI he was, in fact, an American soldier in WWII and in the movie he played himself as a soldier in WWII. Audie Murphy was born in 1925 which was years after WWI.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video....and the manner of presentation. It is not often that I create a list of topics to "research" based on a YT video....but this one will have me scurrying to see some of these movies...perhaps: "again" (Audie Murphy especially). The narrative script was excellent.....and the narration itself. I don't subscribe to a channel unless I'm pretty darned impressed with the content...or I've had some enjoyable dialogue with someone. Subbing up to your channel now.

(BTW...an "aside"....I used to have an English boyfriend....his accent and voice tone was the softer/smooth sort....exactly like this narrator. So...kind of a "warm and fuzzy" recollection for me. :-) Never forgot him).

I'm been searching for well over 2 hours, going through movie list after movie list and can't for the life of me find a movie I used to watch. It was about this American guy who was fed up of City life so moved to the country with his gf, but she was never happy there. So one day there was this guy from the city where they lived and he walked in on them banging, so killed them both. He had a pie shop and he used to have a specialty pie called "road kill" which would actually be people he had killed from the city. The reason this story unfolded was because this reporter was investigating the story and heard it all from the guy who did it, who obviously later on killed her. Pretty sure it was made mid-late 2000's. Desperate to find the name of this film. Sounds a lot like Sweeney Todd but this film is set in somewhat modern times and there's no singing.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but Rocky didn't work at a butcher shop. I thought this until I actually watched it WAY after Rocky 4 (which I thought was Rocky 1 for far too long lol). I can see where the notion comes from as we all know about him punching beef like someone that hasn't seen Star Wars knows Vader is Luke's father: pop culture. However, IIRC, he was only shown to have a job as a low-level gangster/loan shark's enforcer. He collected money. Paulie worked at the butcher shop.
There was another insignificant error but I forgot haha. Funny video, btw.

DannyWilliamH That is right. The character Rocky was a debt collector, paulie worked at a meat packing factory, in an argument with Paulie Rocky punches a hanging carcass which is how the training method came about. Full of facts me lol
