There's some really good stuff here. What he said about working on the right things really hit home. I enjoy making videos but I also probably be working on things that will actually make money. And yes I do know I can make money indirectly with my videos, but while I'm waiting on that to work thru ads I make for my products and posting the links, I need to work on generating income outside of my channel. Whether it's a new job, cold reach outs for my products, etc.
This was a great chat! Great questions indeed. Reafirmes some of my beliefs now that i’m working on a new entertainment channel. Thank you both for sharing. 🤙🏽
"Perfectionism is masked insecurity" What a great takeaway. Separating yourself from the outcome was also excellent to hear, almost like therapy for RUclipsrs lol. Thank you for sharing!
Looking back perfection has destroyed my career. The constant scrapping projects and overthinking. I think sum ppl just feel uncomfy putting things out there and not having a hollywood sheen to it. Best just get it out, and start looking at others and trying to match them not 50 million netflix or hollywood films.
I’ll be honest I don’t really like watching other creators do long interviews but when I see a Jay Clouse interview, I am clicking immediately. I really loved the flow of this one, good job!
Consistency is interesting. Out of 215 videos posted, 20 of them represent over 70% of all views to my channel. However! I continue weekly posts because it gives me that space to fail and experiment. If I only posted once a month or whenever a video was done, a video failing would hurt WAY worse.
If u look into how the algorithm works, it's obvious that consistency is paramount. I had a video using unreal engine 3d software etc... it got 180k views. Right about that time A I. was kicking in, so I moved over to that, my next post got 80 views. So you gotta be carefully trying different things out, mess up everything. Mr beast, joe rogan, ben shapiro, lex Friedman, hasan piker, tim pool, ishowspeed... just prove wot it takes to be huge creators. I've even watched sum creators apologise for veering off and trying something new and they got a backlash.
I don't know how I got here and I do't know who you both are bc of YT's autoplay but this interview is so engaging and informative that I listened to the whole thing. I know nothing about content creation but your success principle works across the board in all areas. Thanks for the content and I wish you all abundant success!
What a great conversation to witness. Thank you for that! The almost polarized focus on monetization, subscribers, view time and click-somethings, in almost every other video I've seen, that targets aspiring or brand new Creators, is borderline insanity to me. Or the occasional "How to use AI to get rich and barely lift a finger" and "500 shorts in just 10 minutes using the bulk button". For me watching a lot of these has been... well let's say demotivating. My motivation for becoming a Content Creator was always to provide something of value to people I haven't met and probably never will. Being constantly bombarded with all these "Get rich fast" videos, and still keep true to my gut feeling has been... let's say "a challenge" for a few days. I'm doing this because I want to create and then provide something that I did not find myself on this or any other platforms that felt like it had "soul" enough to engage me. The two of you just validated my gut feeling that I actually belong, even if the last few days of researching and practising new skills, left me feeling like polka dotted unicorn in a flock of striped zebras. Well, I might be just that, but I now think that's at least ok, and might even be a good thing? So thank you again. I needed to hear this! Have a Blissful Day!
Your channel is so valuable Jay! I used to go as far away as possible from this kind of content because I grew bored of the people saying things like "put between 5 and 10 hashtags to get your video to blow up on tiktok" and then seeing that people who blow up don't even focus on that 😂. You come in this crowded space with valuable input from people who actually put in the work and you deliver it in such a cohesive and easy to understand way. Thank you 🤗
I grew from pretty much a dead RUclips account with 600 subs that I was in another niche for 3 years, to getting to 7.5k subs in 1.5 months or so. I’m not posting everyday and all I’m doing is testing new things. Some work, some don’t. But I’m spending the next 6 months to creating a few content pieces weekly and figuring out what best suits RUclips. The stuff that didn’t work here or Insta works well on TikTok. I post across the board.
Great Interview & phenomenal gems. I had the blessing to work with and speak to Zack a couple of times. He’s such a great, humble dude that moves with genuine intention in every room. Great work
Gentlemen, thank you for this interview. Goes straight to my heart. I am on this journey to craft storytelling that enriches the lives of the receiver. Your advice is encouraging. I feel like I have been on the right path, listening and curious, approaching with the right spirit, your conversation confirms this. Thank you for sharing your somewhat divergent advice from the rest of the crowd.
Great interview - particularly appreciated the point about hand-crafted things becoming premium once a new paradigm arrives (especially with AI now). Also great reminder to prioritize focus and working on the uncomfortable things that you know will push you forward. Thank you, Jay and Zack!
I really love the highlight here about consistency not being a silver bullet. Something I've been saying to students a lot lately is that consistency is the prerequisite. Nobody succeeds in this space without consistency, but if you aren't being intentional about getting better with each "rep", consistency alone isn't going to get you anywhere.
I am 6 minutes in, and what I love about the video is these summary inserts at the bottom. They are the essence and make it easy to remember. And I am so glad, that I try to improve or learn something new with every video. Hearing this from the both of you, puts a smile on my face.
I can’t tell you how valuable your channel is and I’m so grateful I’ve found it. You provide us with info that actually matters. I purchased Creator HQ today and I’m already blown away by what I’ve seen so far, simply from watching the tutorials. I look forward to losing sleep tonight to set everything up! 😅
As a new creator, I found this video super insightful. And I've watched a LOT of similar videos with half the amount of actionable advice. Kudos Jay and Zack!
Great show guys! Love love love the part about having to sacrifice something to devote time and energy and learning to being a content creator! I personally gave up hours and hours of video gaming to devote to my channel - now I consider researching and producing content as my new "game" - there is progression, and that dopamine hit when a video takes off! Thanks for confirming this is a valid thing! Cheers!
Great interview, loved it :) This was value-packed with really interesting info! I'm curious about what "success" looks like for most creators. For example, the "top 10%" of creators don't have to worry about posting consistently, but is that metric based on subscriber count, engagement per video, monthly channel views etc. Sometimes the metric can even be having 10K REALLY loyal people watch each of your videos (more buying power per subscriber, loyalty, etc.) Would love to learn more about this breakdown, as well as what metrics actually matter nowadays! Edit: I see that it was answered at 34 ish min, nvm! :D
I notice when I rush to put out a video just to please consistency, my views actually go DOWN. As long as I focus on quality that’s when I see the best results.
I usually hate watching long interviews like this, but you are the only youtuber for me that makes this format digestable and actually fun! I really appreciate your work, it really helps me!! 😄😄🌻💖✨
What a great interview! Zack is such an interesting guest and like the way you host a podcast, Jay! I also enjoyed the creative way to introduce the sponsor! 😄 Good job 👏
Thank you so much for this. I just started and 4 episodes in I was already drowning trying to figure out how to do a weekly show and have a family and full time job. Now I think I might do 2 week or even 3 week shows with edited lil clips to fill the gaps
Wow, this was such a great interview!!! Jay, you are REALLY skillful with these interviews!!! So many good questions! And I’ve never heard of Zach before, he has so much wisdom and knowledge, but one thing I noticed is that he has such a big and beautiful heart ❤️ Wow. So much goodness in this interview and so many great takeaways! I truly enjoyed it!!!
So interesting, love the consistency discussion and my takeaway is to post my best work when it's ready without being perfectionist about it but to keep at it and keep improving.
Amazing points!! Especially the personality point. After reaching nearly 150,000 subscribers on my beekeeping channel, I do attribute it to trying to answering questions people are asking.
Thank you Jay for the video! I used to think there was a quick way to have a successful channel /social media platform. Things are finally slowly building up for my channel and honestly, I'm super happy with the slow steady growth. I'd be super content with reaching 500 subs. Any more than 1,000 I could care less bc I finally found something I like making videos on that other people enjoy as well. Watching your video Jay has reminded me of all the successful people I've read about and heard about. I used to want to be like them. I still respect hard-working people, but I don't want to drive my soul and body to the ground to reach a goal, be happy for a split second, and then have to find a bigger goal to reach hoping that will fulfill me instead. So, yeah, my goal is to be fulfilled with what I have, and what I can do NOW, grow at my own pace, and to keep that child-like curiosity.
I recorded myself explaining my subject matter to my own kid instead of a script. Worked great to forget about everything and just record. Great episode!
Jay new subscriber.. Wow your interviews are 🔥. You ask the right question’s. You are my new favorite interviewer. You are really good at your Kraft and these interviews are bringing so much value. Learning so much. Thank you brother💪🥰
Jay...loved your question about what if who I am changes?! My 14 year old just went through that (Started her channel at 10) and is bravely stepping into new territory with her channel. Thanks for this interview!
Your videos have been such an inspiration to me! They motivated me to learn how to make better content. Now I'm getting over 10,000 new subscribers a week! I just wanted to say thank you. Your work really made a difference for me.
Incredibly mind opening conversations! Thank you. Suggestion for YT: figure out how to stop the abrupt interruption by commercials. Perhaps by fading the ads, or having the host say: "on this video there are x ads, the ads make it possible this channel is free for you to watch. Each ad will las only 15 secs unless you click for the ad to continue, please watch at least the 15 second clip"
Such a great podcast! Thank you! This came up at a perfect moment for me. I'm trying to put out a fitness video consistently every week. I have too young kids, a full time job, and a house to keep in some kind of order😅. I keep trying to tell myself that it's OK if the video doesn't get out on time. I personally don't expect the people I follow to put out a video every week. I'm hoping not to attract the kind of people that expect a video a day or a video a week from me. It's just not sustainable.❤
Great podcast episode here - lots of goldmine. Love the comment on the transition to more human connections when someone engages with content VS the pure entertainment value - Jon
So much to say... The #1 thing I've realized after studying RUclips for years is that the IDEA of the video seems to trump everything. Giving up a social life, and time with family, and you just focused on being the best and still have a chance to fail? Nah. This is very incorrect, but I began to feel very strongly the loss of time in long social gatherings. This was a great interview. I have a question. Y’all (and many others) say “don’t be a perfectionist” but then you turn right around and say “don’t hit upload until you’ve done everything in your power to make it the best you can.” Well, THAT’s being a perfectionist. You can’t have it both ways. So, which is it?
What's in your power to do at your small beginning is different from what's in my own power. I started with just a small android phone with no other gadgets. I just had to start and I improved as I went. Now I have 4 monetized channels which are still growing by the way but I wanted to grow all same thing so they can yield for me years to come. Now it's time for me to invest into the channels because they now make me money
19:14 Alternatively, consider what are creative strategies or unique advantages I have that can allow me to take other paths that don't require those same sacrifices.
Robert Greene on diary of a CEO with Steve had a different perspective on "being yourself" he made the case that Everytime we leave our homes, we are putting on an act to who we are interacting with - be it friends from the bar, hiking friends, family, colleagues, boss, etc. Do you disagree with him?

Yeah I wish I was able to grow that quickly, but it's a marathon not a sprint. Just have fun and love what you are doing🤎🧡🤎🧡
Thank you for having me on! Had so much fun with this!
Appreciate you sharing with us! This was a really fun time.

This was a great chat! Great questions indeed.

Steve Jobs wrapped the whole marketing and business strategies into one phrase "Think different". Everybody discusses it but in various ways and words
I’ll be honest I don’t really like watching other creators do long interviews but when I see a Jay Clouse interview, I am clicking immediately. I really loved the flow of this one, good job!

I absolutely agree with this ! Best interviews!

FACTS when it’s $ involved can’t afford to fail id rather post 30 days straghit and know atleast a few gone do well 😂
❤
This was a very interesting episode, many good points and I love the idea of consistent quality over consistent posting schedule.

Not even 8mins in and this already feels like it’s jam packed with value for creators - awesome, thank you both!
Be creative....do what others are unwilling to do or unable to do. What advantages do you have...
Courage..

Our fearless leader, Zack!! I love Creator Now. Thanks, Jay, for having him on. Great interview as always.
Such level-headed clarity, wisdom, and business acumen here from both of you. Amazing work gentlemen.

Very deep interview into being your self or a persona infront of the camera.
