A mystery snail I once had crawled to the bubble curtain, arched itself to catch as much air as possible, then let go and let the bubbles carry him to the top, fall to the bottom, crawls to the bubble curtain to repeat. Sometimes he climbed things just to jump off, and then go do it again.
I like a naturally controlled population of "pest snails". They eat uneaten food and helps keeping the tank cleaner and makes it easier to clean in general.
I love all my snails! I have a 29 gallon with 5 mystery snails(3 I bought and two I raised from babies), 1 female narite snail (all my wood decor is covered in eggs 🥚), 1 trap door snail, 3-4 rams horn snails (under control), and 4 rabbit snails( my 2 adults had two babies last week!)… my tank is six months old and going strong. The fish in my tank never bother any of my snails 🐌 Great video
I love my planted 29gal dedicated mystery, colombian ramshorn and ghost shrimp tank! Shrimps take care of biofilm and leftover food while the snails do as they please. And my precious pea puffer *Pinky the Destroyer* eats all the extra snails I cull from the breeding circle, she also eats feeder ramshorm snails and bloodworms, she is so spoiled 🥰. Anyway, I love snails!!
I love to show off my snail. We named him Waldo and play ' Where's Waldo' whenever we walk by. They are nifty, underrated little creatures. Far more than just a living Roomba.
Thanks again for the live stream! I liked the sparkling gourami vs pea puffer video! Perhaps if you do another of that style you include a comment on tank mates - like was it either/or, could I put *both* in the same tank now that you've convinced me they're both awesome? I'd be interested in a video or stream about your maintenance routines. How does it differ for small vs large tanks? Maybe information on how inhabitants inform your maintenance - messy eaters, stocking, sensitive inhabitants like shrimp, fry tanks?
Sorry I missed the live stream guys!! But boy is it awesome as usual!!we have collected a few mystery snails and Ram's Horn plus I'm sure some Pond snails!! They're all doing a great job and looking forward to getting some more! Hope you all are having a great day and much love 🐌❤️🙏
Happy Thursday Jason and Joanna. Thankyou for yesterday’s Live Stream. I have never liked snails but now I think I could tolerant them. I am taking Jason’s thought to heart that discus might eat them. Maybe another time with other fish I will buy in the future. Sincerely, Marty Borst
I have a 29 gallon planted tank that’s about 2 months old and is going through its brown algae phase and the bladder and ramshorn snails are helping a TON by cleaning off the leaves on my plants so I don’t have to dust them off! And I’ve also got Trumpets that keep the sand from getting hydrogen sulfide bubbles, I absolutely love all my snails!
Could you bake the wood in a oven to make it into driftwood ? I have a planted aquarium. I put the mystery snails in the tank and they decided to try out some young shoots. 😮 Now I feed them veggies, berries, blood worms, and shrimp pellet. Success no more munching on the aquatic plants. 😚 Their names are Jo-Jo. They share the tank with three small Khuli Loaches, and two female Cherry Red shrimp.
I love snails! I was excited when I finally got bladder snails that hitchhiked on some plants I got from Etsy. The tank they started in was so much cleaner overall then the tank that didn’t have them. So I started moving some snails over to the other tank. I do have a Yo Yo Loach in the tank I’m moving some snails over to, so I would imagine he will eat some of them. 😊
The mts are the ones that give me the willies, I'll let bladder and ramshorns be, but I can't handle a cluster of the others. The visual! Every person I've laughed at for their bladder snail antipathy (could they be easier to get rid of or more innocuous or downright useful?) has one over on me if they purposely got MTS. I have an assassin snail on backup just in case one slips by!
Hi Joanna and Jason! I had to watch this after the fact. I enjoyed the live stream. You mentioned a snail trap and there is one that can be made from a small plastic water Bottle (but you probably can't have small fish in the aank or they'd get stuck too) Your biggest fans who want one can search for DIY Snail Trap here on RUclips! Hope all's well with you. .
Snails are so useful - when I see a tank where the inhabitants have munched them all away, I make sure to re-populate that tank with more snails. Not sure why, but any tank with female Endlers eventually becomes snail free...
I'm sorry but I desperately need help with my nitrite levels they are very high and the last week I have added fitz 7 to the tank and done water changes throughout that whole week with no change. At this point I'm completely lost and I'm scared that my fish are going to die even tho there not showing signs of destress. If anyone can help please it would be very much appreciated.
Keep adding the Fritzyme 7 with water changes. It might take a week or so but it will eventually come down. If you don't have plants for salt sensitive fish you could also add salt.
I have turned my Biorb into Mt Orodruin of ohko (I don't know if I'm just going to shrimp it, or try a few rice fish), but no eye of Sauron, lol. Maybe I'll do Isengard in the hex. 😄
I made a HUGE mistake(s): Love my Mystery and Nerites. Several months ago I got a brown striped Mystery/Apple snail that looked like a huge nerite snail. Maybe a couple weeks later I noticed my plants being devoured. It took some time to realize it was that brown snail and not one of my community fish. Research discovered the snail to be Pomacea canaliculata (Do Not Buy). I started using cucumber or zucchini. Snail loved my plants more. After the snail was "relocated", I had to purchase $$ of new plants from one of our favorite RUclips plant/fish people. This person recommends to dip the plants in chlorine water to get rid of pest snails if concerned. I did not think I would have that issue by watching this persons channel and tanks. I also didn't bother quarantining the plants. Guess what happened. My daughter and I started a challenge on who can hand collect the most snails. After 1.5 months, we have collected over 700 snails. Yes, she is beating me 3/1-smaller hands. We never see more than 30 on the glass. I still don't know the exact name of these very tiny black snails. The biggest maybe 2mm. Sorry for the super long post. Hopefully someone learns from my mistakes. Stay away from Brown Striped Mystery Snails, Quarantine plants, If you get snails-Dip in Bleach Water, Re-quarantine, No more snails- Then put in Display Tank. I still don't have a solution to my problem. Issue is compatibility in my diverse tank. Need to gravel vac more. Going to try a DYI snail trap. Thinking about assassin's, but don't know if I want to add to my problem. Thought about a pea puffer tank because of the new food source. I was told NO to more tanks. P.S. Snail Shell Care: I use crush coral in my filter and cuttlefish bone under a decoration. Love you Joanna and yes Jason. Best fish couple and fish room. Thank you for this video.
Yes if they find them they want you to sterilize your fish tank and call the agricultural Department because they're afraid they'll get in the Water ways like they have in the Great Lakes. I received an email from Amazonia magazine
haha jason.. i think i dont mind eating a giant hamburger 5 times bigger than me if i am super hungry. great video again, guys. i am having problem with pest snails infestation as well...i will manually remove them from time to time grrr.. i only bought nerite snails.
Best way to catch snails . If you gently wave the water just above the gravel with your hand without touching the gravel . the snails are lighter and always rise up higher than the gravel . Then just pick them out takes ten mins . Easiest way to catch And expose hidden pest snails .in all my experience Dealing with them.😜

I'm glad to visit your episodes. Your approach is practical and so informative. Thanks.
Thank you!

Too funny!

Love nerite snails, anything that makes my maintenance easier is great.
I just got my first mystery snail. Very cool one. Sleeps a lot though.

Absolutely needed this exact information. Always seem to read my mind. Thanks!

Some wood releases too many organics.

Thanks a lot for another great stream. Very informative and fun to watch! Nerite snails are my favourite, it's a pity they are hard to breed.
Love your channel! (And snails) little known fact that ramshorn snails eat black beard algae, I can show you photos for proof or even get a video.
my nerite snail has white sand particles stuck all over the outside of its shell. can you tell me what might be going oN?
Not exactly sure - I almost wounded if a female laid eggs on a different nerite, but I haven’t seen that before?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics next morning sand was gone. He must've burrowed! 😀
Is 1 tablespoon of api aquarium salt acceptable for mystery snails?
Depends on the volume, but they tend not to like salt.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics oops I left out per 5 gallons. Its 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. ?
I can't get the link to Joanna's channel to work
I just got into pet snails! You know, besides bladder snails. How do you know what I'm doing with my life right now!?❤️🐌💜
Mind reading! :-)
I have nerite snails and rabbit snail in two tanks, but my cichlid tank is full of those Malaysian trumpet snails..

Should I quarantine nerite snails?
We don’t usually QT snails
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I was going to add some to my multi and caudopunc just wondering for qt if i get them from petco/petsmart
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for the response 🙏
What is better, nitrite or mystery snails?
I like Mystery snails a little more.
Mystery are way more fun to watch. Nerites will go after an algae area like nothing else you've seen. 👍
I love your snail voice!
I had outbreak in reef. Got into pumps, skimmer. Lol. Just pull em out at night.

I have seen those too! :-)
Yep snails are cool and two years ago I actually paid real money for Trumpet snails 😬🤷🏼♀️plus side is I don’t have to buy food for my pea puffers!
SO true - usually they are a one time "investment" Haha
What about if you chemical used for goldfish pounds into a 55 gallon that,s infested with Blackbeard algee?😢😢😢
Sometimes that can be hard on the fish.
How do I make sure my clown pleco is eating when I have Cory cats in the aquarium?
Get the special pleco wafers and put one in besides the cory wafers, and keep wood for rasping
How'd I miss this stream!!👍👍 😁

Does anyone know what kind of fish prey on malaysian trumpet snails? I've got a problem of population control in my angelfish tank
When looking at my tanks that lack MTS - mbuna, clown loaches, possibly assassin snails?
