I wish there was this "serum" today, sadly I think it will be another 30 years or so before we can effectively hold aging in place (along with curing cancers, dementia and other degenerative diseases); it could be possible that some intermediary solutions will come up within the next 15 years to bridge that gap. After that, another 20 years would likely see us able to REVERSE aging and 20 years after that being able to tailor our bodies to an increasing extent so as to get rid of any significant nagging defects (like weak genes for inflammation and joints). I would very much like to see that day, 70 years from now.
@ZK Tay I'm an atheist, and love Dawkins. And atheists can believe in goodness. It just depends on our assumptions. Just as Euclid built a system of geometry based on basic assumptions about lines and points, we may also build a system of morality upon some basic assumptions. You don't have to accept those assumptions, but once you do, a system of morality emerges via logic. Here are two assumptions you could start with if you like. Just two among many: 1) It is never OK to make the first use of force, or threat of force, against an otherwise peaceful person. This is called the nonaggression principle. 2) Each individual adult is the proper owner of their own body, and life. Socialists don't assume this, of course. They tend to assume that the collective or the state owns their bodies. But that's up to them! :)
@ZK Tay I also tend to assume that a person is more valuable than an insect or worm. I do the thought experiment where I can only save the life of one individual common insect or one individual person. I would pick the person every time. Works for all squirrels and birds, too. Gets a little harder when I get up to apes and dolphins, but I pick the person then, too. Some people don't agree with my choices, but the thought experiment is good for revealing your own values. What do you think of the person who would save the squirrel instead of the person? I tend to think they are bonkers, don't you?

Although, there are still big mysteries to it, we know empty space can be endowed properties. You can see the indirect effects of particles going in and out. Empty space, with gravity added, spontaneously produce particles without violating the conservation of energy afterwards. It's just the laws of nature. Guaranteed, empty space will produce something. Being that I see no evidence of any gods, I'll go with Ockham and stick with my far simpler worldview, until I see evidence to the contrary.

I wish there was this "serum" today, sadly I think it will be another 30 years or so before we can effectively hold aging in place (along with curing cancers, dementia and other degenerative diseases); it could be possible that some intermediary solutions will come up within the next 15 years to bridge that gap.
After that, another 20 years would likely see us able to REVERSE aging and 20 years after that being able to tailor our bodies to an increasing extent so as to get rid of any significant nagging defects (like weak genes for inflammation and joints). I would very much like to see that day, 70 years from now.

@ZK Tay I'm an atheist, and love Dawkins. And atheists can believe in goodness. It just depends on our assumptions. Just as Euclid built a system of geometry based on basic assumptions about lines and points, we may also build a system of morality upon some basic assumptions. You don't have to accept those assumptions, but once you do, a system of morality emerges via logic. Here are two assumptions you could start with if you like. Just two among many:
1) It is never OK to make the first use of force, or threat of force, against an otherwise peaceful person. This is called the nonaggression principle.
2) Each individual adult is the proper owner of their own body, and life. Socialists don't assume this, of course. They tend to assume that the collective or the state owns their bodies. But that's up to them! :)
@ZK Tay I also tend to assume that a person is more valuable than an insect or worm. I do the thought experiment where I can only save the life of one individual common insect or one individual person. I would pick the person every time. Works for all squirrels and birds, too. Gets a little harder when I get up to apes and dolphins, but I pick the person then, too. Some people don't agree with my choices, but the thought experiment is good for revealing your own values. What do you think of the person who would save the squirrel instead of the person? I tend to think they are bonkers, don't you?

@@2fast2block There's a book called "A Universe from Nothing" by Lawrence Krauss. Empty space without any particles, still weigh something, and with timescales so short you can't see them. Although, there are still big mysteries to it, we know empty space can be endowed properties. You can see the indirect effects of particles going in and out. Empty space, with gravity added, spontaneously produce particles without violating the conservation of energy afterwards. It's just the laws of nature. Guaranteed, empty space will produce something. Therefore, something from nothing. This is all paraphrased from Dr.Krauss, but it makes total sense in addressing your perspective of nothing. Thanks for responding!
