    The reason you struggled to get the front strut to clear under the fender - and the reason the knuckle didn't drop any further when you loosened the tension arm bolt to subframe - was because the brake line was completely tight and being stretched by trying to force it downwards...
    If you remove the caliper, so the brake line isn't limiting the movement, and unplug the wheel speed sensor, the knuckle can then drop down as far as you want. You'll want to loosen the control arm to subframe bolt as well to save that bush also being twisted - unless M3 LCA which have a spherical bearing.

    Good video. As a suggestion for the front struts removal / install, you can attach a spring compressor to the coil and compress the spring an additional 1/2" or so. This makes it easier to swing the assembly in and out.

  • @iamauser2198
    @iamauser2198 3 года назад

    I have done this job twice. Both times I had to unbolt the front tie rods to make enough room to get the front strut out. Are you sure no damage is being done to your front tie rod when you do the job like this? I don't have a shop manual so maybe I am just missing something here.

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  3 года назад

      What I do to get a little extra room was turn the steering wheel away from the side I'm working on. Also, removing the tie rod would definitely help, but then it's just a pain to put the new strut in IMO. The service manual recommends removing the "wishbone" (lower control arm) first in order to remove the strut. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for watching, Stoney!

    • @TheBimmerBarn

    Nice. Not much of a drop. I wound up going with dinan springs on my 335 xdrive. They had the least drop of any lowering springs. I was going to go with bc or fortune coilovers but they were on back order for several months at the time so being impatient I got the dinan springs and koni yellows. Awesome ride compared to the 100k stock struts

    • @TheBimmerBarn
