Fantastic video! I looked around for a coil over install for my BC coil overs that I bought, and I put it off for months because I couldn’t find a good video. Then, I found yours and voila! I was able to do it all myself within 3 days. Thank you! :)
Wauw, finally someone who knows his stuff! There is a lot of nonsense being told on the internet about spring preloading. Like you said, preload is only to ensure that the spring does not come loose from its seat during suspension drop. Other than that, it doesn't do anything at all! Almost all auto coilovers have linear springs. A few mm more or less preload is not important. As soon as the weight of the car comes on the coilovers, the preload is cancelled out by the weight of the car. Just make sure there is enough tension on the spring to keep it in place and you are ok. I do not own a BMW but I love watching your video's. Keep them comming!
Dude thank you for actually showing what goes where on the struts for the rear, I'm installing BC racing on my e91 but they are basically identical to the ecs. Super helpful, nobody else I found explained it well.
Always coming through with that thorough explanation. Since my E92 335 is good to go now (knock wood), I will be getting some goodies for it and handling will be high on my list.
All the explaining made the video a little long, but it can be used for most coilover installs! Handling upgrades are awesome! Especially since you are already caught up on maintenance!
Honestly impressed for the price of these coil overs! I drove the car 4+ hours to drop it off earlier this year and it felt great at the slightly lowered ride height. My cousin has been daily driving it for a few months now and still loves it!
You can find decent prices still on the e46/e9x cars. Clean examples of the e46 are getting harder to find so it’s only a matter of time before those prices start going up!
Me too. How I miss my beautiful 2002, midnight blue, oyster upholstered 325i E46 automatic BMW that I bought from the original owner at 92,000 km and drove until it had done 270,000 km - and sold it six years ago. The VW Golf I replaced it with, although super reliable, practical and economical (42 US mpg), feels like a shopping trolley by comparison - sooo pedestrian. But I know if I buy another BMW it’d have a host of issues that would cost a kings ransom to address. The young bloke who has this video channel is awesome. 🦘
I'll sell you mine. It's a 2001 525i. I've it rebuilt last year 2022 and now I've gotta replace another gasket. Which is why I'm here watching and wishing he lived close to Greenville SC. I'm sick of BMW dealer mechanic.
Great video as always. I did not remember seeing a section on when you need to add lowering end links (shorter). I have Bilstein B14 CO’s abs it lowered the car quit a bit. I put lowering end links on the back but was not sure how to determine the length of the lowering end links on the front. Can you advise?
Where did the bump stop support (silver cap) go on the rear shocks? It would have a 10mm hole in it, but these shocks are likely 12mm, so did you drill out the support?
I drove the car 4+ hours to drop it off at my cousins place and they felt great. We only lowered the car slightly and softened up the ride a bit more then shown in the video (12 clicks from fully hard). My cousin has been daily driving it for a few months now and he loves it.
This was a enormous help for these ECS coilovers. Myself I'm pretty green on anything mechanical and unfortunately I'm not blessed with having that innate ability but this breakdown allowed me to even complete it if need be which isn't the case I have so-called a shop that is supposed to be somewhat reputable that has no fucking clue how to even not blow off your freaking end links as they set the car down along with other basic stuff. Anyway thank you. If you have other instructable vids content on LCI e9x xi repairs or modifications that translate to pre-lci also let me know if you have another link or if you don't if you have a buddy that you could point me in the direction of that you trust more or less
Sorry for being off topic but you know your stuff and I'd like your insight. I've got an 07 E91 with the GM automatic. Do the GM transmissions have problems with the solenoid sleeves like the ZF does? Car has 94k miles and I already had the fluid replaced at 92k.
I installed the same set on my 335d. Too stiff!! I put a set of ECS coilovers on my My 335d. The height is perfect. The dampening is good. The problem is the springs are too stiff. (No preload on front or rear)
BMWs are horrible for every day use. I know guys feel cool having one but it’s not logical in many ways. My dad has one for every day use it’s a total unrequited nightmare to work on. I’ve learned a lot over all of the nightmares sure. But No thanks. Just kick me in the nuts instead. I’ll take it. Lol
I've had my e90 bmw for the past decade and its been amazing. With regular services everything is in good nick and never had a mechanical problem, ive had to replace 2 windows regulators in the time ive had it. Being diesel full economy is great, even with over 200,000k's on the clock I still get 850k's out of a 60 litre tank of diesel.
@@levibarwick240 to be fair my sister crashed it. Ran over cinder blocks. The amount of work I’ve done to get it drivable is crazy. Diagnosing the cooling fan not working, a transfer case issue? Starter replace? It was a nightmare man. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. And my dad got the car from his friend with 180k miles. Just with all the context…it really is that bad lol
Bro i know what im gng to ask you is not related to this video but i have a 2008 bmw 328i i change the water pump i bought a new one but Chinese one and when i try test the electric pump doesnt work, car heats up .i check all fuses 33 ,37 also the battery fuse links and everything shows power also ground what u suggest u think might be the chinese water pump ? And thank you
I love how you take you’re time to actually explain why you’re doing what needs to be done. Great video!

Nice work, guys! Budget coilovers are a nice upgrade.
Man, cousin owns you guys big time! It’s like a new car!

I own a e46 M3 but watch cause I just enjoy Bimmer content 🤙🏽Ⓜ️
Super nice DIY brother and sister! Looks like great stuff from ECS. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend. Dutch regards Nico.

bro this e90 series🔥🔥🔥 learning so much
Good job on your videos. Informative and we laid out. Hoping these videos gain you more followers and future opportunities.
Please do diagnostic on n52 rough idle and rough run please
I need a bmw again it’s been 10 years since I’ve owned one 😢

Oh, so u forgot the trauma? 😂

@@tracierainey8200this is for suspension not engine problems 😊

ECS is Turner. ECS acquired Turner 2015.
Thank you for this refresh thinking about doing the 325i e90 been a while since I did it on the 330
Great step by step guide!!
🙏
Thank you for your excellent explanation. Ihave bmw e66 can you tell me the location in the car of the suspension control module.
I have these same coilovers and its wayy to low in the rear even at max height. Like its almost tucking the rim lip. Any idea why?
Same here.. The rear rest super low,
Very nice guide 👍👍 ! Good job
Will these coilovers retain stock ride height ?
Where did the bump stop support (silver cap) go on the rear shocks? It would have a 10mm hole in it, but these shocks are likely 12mm, so did you drill out the support?
Keep the e9x series up please
I’m finding it pretty much impossible to get the spindle into the spring perch, I’m on jackstands so I can’t fit a prybar under it, any suggestions?
Watching this video was hilarious also helped me I’m a new sub 🔒🤣
Can u send a link so I can purchase these coilovers
Can u post how driving experience like after coilover replacement?

I replaced mine with BC Coilovers and they were too bouncy. Were these ECS ones a decent ride or much more bouncy?
WE ARE BACK❤
I barely clicked to make it public! Appreciate the love man!

I installed this set. Seems way too stiff
Can I book mine in for fitting and setting up 😁
Hey I have a question I accidentally plugged my battery in the ring way and it sparked up plugged it in right now car won’t turn over any idea?
You probably shorted something out.
Y mounted strut mounts from e9x xdrive on my e39 with the sachs M sport strut , 1cm lower !

No problem! I would do the sonnax zip kit and the seals between the mechatronics and transmission
I installed the same set on my 335d.
Too stiff!!
I put a set of ECS coilovers on my My 335d.
The height is perfect. The dampening is good.
The problem is the springs are too stiff. (No preload on front or rear)
"sexual innuendos everywhere!"😂. Another great video, Jason!🙌
Where is your shop located and how can I get you to work on my car??
Bmw god
Good job
🙏
Dont crack the concentric bolt off whatever you do just pry the spring out you will end up having a bad day 😂
