With my son I used the refrigerator. It was a rule that while we are cleaning the fridge, he can tell me anything and I won't scream or have a heart attack. We covered many serious items and I got a clean fridge. Win/win.

I drove my kids to and from school across town every day. In the morning I heard about worries of the day and we talked about how to handle them. The afternoon conversation was of the days events. I drove my son until he was a sophomore and my daughter until she graduated. There were great conversations and well worth the time spent fighting traffic rather than them sitting on a bus.

I coach high school football. After the last game of the year I try to give every senior a hug and give them a personalized, encouraging word. I pick out certain traits of theirs that I highlight and try to give them vision for their future. I do that because one of my coaches did that to me after losing in the state championship game my sophomore year. As I was crying in the locker room he came and spoke words that after nearly 20 years still bring tears to my eyes.

Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill was written in 1938, but it remained unpublished for decades due to its controversial nature. The manuscript was considered too bold and provocative for its time, addressing topics like fear, control, and societal manipulation. It wasn’t until 2011, long after Hill’s death, that the book was finally published by the Napoleon Hill Foundation. It’s worth studying it

With ONE caveat - whatever activity your kid gets involved in, have the grace as a parent to allow the kid to pick something THEY want to do, not something YOU push on them to do.
Voice of experience here. Both my parents pulled that on me as a kid back 60 years ago. They wanted me involved in something but THEY decided what that something would be. Upshot was, I refused their demands. Mom, I loved ya, but I wanted to learn the guitar, not alto sax. Dad, I loved ya, but I wanted to take riding lessons, not flying lessons. So it all came to nothing.

PDB is the father most dream about. You squandered your parents love and support. Even if you would have become great at what they wanted, as an adult you could always go and learn what you want taking the lessons and work ethic from the other skills your parents pushed you towards. Do your best at the harmless things that people who love you ask you to do and you will be more than prepared to do amazing at the things you think are important and that you truly want to do.

My boys are young, but this is something we already do. I admit... I do think we could make it a little more one on one. What we do is wait, and find that perfect moment. So.. I think one area I can correct this, is by going on walks. Make it more of a designated thing, so they realize the weight it holds. Idk.. we'll figure it out. My husband was the one who started this and it worked so well I kept doing it.

PBD, your podcast is “Top End” for me. As a Canadian, I want quality information from south of the 49th. “Drifting” and young kids and the need to be there for them. I spent 15 years in the Canadian military, Cadet Instructor Cadre, working and mentoring young men and women, from age 12-19. That is a potential 7 years, or for as long as the kid stays in the Cadet Program. It was great to hear that you take your kids well being as seriously as I have with my own kids and thousands of other kids. Thank you.

My parent’s idea of dealing with my problems where I felt like a slave because I had to sit down, shut up, and do school work, was to make me do sports I had no interest in, and when I had an issue I had to tough it out just because they said so.
“Parenting” to check the box is not the same as actually listening to understand.
Parenting to check the box is parenting to shut your child’s complaints down as fast as possible.
Then when the issue was me wanting to leave sports for the exact same reason they made me switch sports.
And then when the same happened there they said “just one more year of soccer”.
And when I blew off everything and started trouble they finally left me alone because they couldn’t handle a kid resentfully doing their own thing after being ignored for years.

I’m in my 40s, East Indian very strict parent, especially my father. We never had a relationship because we always got scolded for EVERYTHING… even when I was just being silly as a child, I got hit or told I was being stupid.
Now my father and mother wonder why I don’t share things with them and I don’t have a deep relationship with them… you can’t just forget how you were treated as a child… I can forgive but I can’t forget.
It’s so sad. I feel jealous of people of have good relationships with their parents and people who actually had and felt love from their parents.
Still to this day I don’t feel loved by them. They sort of care about me, because I have children, but not a love like I would assume from parents.
    Makes me cry still.

Such truth, find a way to involve them to build confidence, in themselves, not in looking for a reward from anyone else or compliments from anyone, but themselves. It needs to make them feel good when it's accomplished, but it also needs to be a personal challenge to better themselves. Teach self goals, they don't need to tell anyone about their goal, this teaches them self reflection, willpower and sticking to their goals on their own without looking for outside confirmation. It's ok to look for outside confirmation, but they need to realize who they are and where they are going with their goals first. Make your kids strong in mind and body!! This world is crazy, keep walking and communicating with your kids to help them when they go drifting!

8:10 - A traditional Persian drink that uses lemon water as a base is **Sekanjabin Sharbat**. It's a refreshing and ancient Iranian beverage made from a sweet-and-sour syrup of vinegar (often white vinegar or apple cider vinegar) and honey or sugar. Lemon or lime juice can be added for extra tanginess, making it a delightful cooling drink for hot days.
To serve, the syrup is mixed with cold water (often lemon-infused water), and sometimes grated cucumber or mint leaves are added for more flavor. It’s a popular accompaniment for summer gatherings in Persian culture.

As a parent, you need to spend time with your children. Make that a priority. Pray for them and pray with them. Share their dreams and burdens. Most of all, love them, unconditionally! It takes work, but it’s all worth it!

Always appreciate pbd and team in giving every parent a nudge to be better and not just cruise/drift in life. Our kids futures are dependent on it. And a small conversation about confidence, right vs. Wrong and honesty is what will separate the kids with a bright future vs. Troubled and lost kids. Thank you for thinking about the current parents and our next generation. Continue on your fight the liberal woke left ideology.

If that many kids were really missing you’d see their parents all over the news. 1 girl went missing in my hometown and it was on the news every day until they found her dead. My hometown has higher crime than 96% of similar sized cities.

320,000 of those kids are from a report from homeland security. It’s all illegal immigrant minors. So, no parents screaming their heads off. PBD should have clarified that.

When my kids were young, my objective was NOT to be their friend, but to prevent them from being entitled and spoiled. They did not like me until after high school. Now they are very successful college educated tech people and they are grateful for the tough love and the success that I promised would happen if they stayed the course. I didn’t not fall into the trap of boomer parents spoiling their kids because of their corporal punishment of upbringing and feeling sorry for their kids. I know many of our friends that did the ‘feeling sorry’ method and they have issue lets minimally say. We are talking even very wealth friends with massive resources with the same outcomes as the middle class. Unfortunately, this approach for boomers bring up the next gen is more an exception than the majority and the attitudes of millennials and gen Z prove this fact.

Teaching wisdom to your children is probably the most important, but being the example is what they really watch , have a foundation built on a relationship with your maker is most important, that is the rock , you build your foundation on , this life is short, you can’t take a penny with you , what’s eternal is what your focus should be on

I always told my son that he could do anything, get anything, be anything he want in life, up. Up to being the president, if he was wiling to work hard enough to get it.
He makes six figures now. His boss hired him because he asked my son what was one thing his parents told him that he still remembered. My son told him what I said to him repeatedly, and he hired olhim on the spot. His boss toss told him that represented good work ethic.
The boss is the owner of the co. And I still stop and talk to him in his office sometimes.
