Along with the list you just mentioned i'll add, Elements of Entrepreneurship. Little before Covid hit I bought a huge box of chocolate and give it to my 9yr old son and told him to try selling the candies to his friends and everyone else he knows. I did that because there were couple of lessons in that task I wanted to talk about with him. Now, he has created his own brand that will be a spin-off into other things. I'm documenting and posting this journey on my channel now.

Both of my kids are high honor roll, accelerated math and science, varsity mvp in their respective sports. They have never been in any kind of trouble and never needed more than a "no-no" in discipline when they were young. The "secret" is love and attention. Play with them as much as possible, listen to them and be attentive when they try to communicate. They are very well rounded and just good kids even though they went through our divorce when my boy was 5 and my daughter 3. Love and attention and setting a decent example and they will raise themselves right. They are their own people not an extension of yourself you get to control.

More parents should hear this. My father is successful monetarily, but our mother was materialistic and "things" were most important to her. My brother and I grew up abused and not allowed to have an opinion about anything. We were told we "knew" nothing. We were told that "children" were bad and that our parents could never have anything (material) because of "us". We grew up trying to get away from the pain that was inflicted. My brother lives on the West coast-Oregon and I live on the East Coast. Our parents are still alive in the midwest. Neither my brother nor I had children. We are 65 and 67 this year. I have learned a lot and I know that Pat has some great ideas to have a great family.

And to this day my parents don’t know why 1/9 of their kids is doing good while the other 8 are doing shitty. But I owe it to myself to have an enjoyable life and when I have kids to right the wrongs in my family by having great children who are at least prepared for the real world!

This is good. Especially explaining but not over explaining. I raised 2 sons. Respecting each one individually and teaching them to respect themselves, everyone and everyone's property has gone a long way. They were more selective with friends and now with mates. Also knowing that what I model is more important than anything. They took away a good work ethic and entrepreneurial desires and goals. They are in their early 20s.

I saw this and said YES! Why? I hadn’t even heard it yet but I have a lot of respect for you and your opinions. I had to listen.
I had a lot of challenges in my life from a young age (who hasn’t?). I have one child and now grandchildren. That child of mine has grown up into an amazing, intelligent, successful (that’s measured in many ways) ,and loving human being. So now I’m working on my grandchildren!😌
Thanks for all of this. Good ideas and many I employed. They work!

Great discussion and tips. Parents should also pay close attention to what the child needs as an individual. Rules are rules, boundaries are essential, but a one-side-fits-all approach on how to teach each kid doesn't work. I love that you said to not compare them to each other. One of my kids is very strong willed and asks 1000 questions. I love explaining things to him, and people are always blown away with how much he knows. If I just answered "because I said so" or "that's just the way it is", he would not feel valued or have his need to understand his world met. My other son is calmer and quieter, but he needs more emotional support and physical connection to feel loved and heard. They're both amazing little dudes, and I am so thankful for what they teach me.

I'm 36 years old, and I got 6 kids, 4 girls 2 boys. And they all have different personalities, so it is hard to raise them to be successful but I'm just trying to do my best and teach them about respect. Respect and honesty are really important. I paint cars in a bodyshop and a mechanic at home. So my kids like what I do and my daughters help me at home. They know how to use my tools and know their names. They are smart but I don't tell them , I let other people see and tell them that. And that makes me proud

one more thing u can add which is apologizing. It's not wrong if u do something wrong and then apologize to Ur kids. Kids will learn they are never big enough to apologize.
Thank u for this content it made me feel good about my parenting coz my husband says I'm wrong for explaining too much if they did something wrong or if I don't want them to do something , or asking for opinions etc... I cant recall a single childhood memory of one-on-one time with either parents, it was always %100 group dynamic and group relationship with 4 siblings at once, usually over dinner.
After 50 years, I dont have a relationship with either parent, we talk small talk on the phone about twice a year the past 25 years. But basically Ive no parental relationship and my daughter knows nobody from my side of the family.

Requirements to bring a new human into the world: None
I've always thought that to be pretty wild. Yet many of us struggle at times and think we're supposed to know how to do it all.
We need more people discussing how to take accountability as a parent and not just put the responsibility on the daycares, schools, teachers, and other influences around us.
Children can have age appropriate responsibilities, learn to help in the home, and think critically if adults allow them to express their opinions well. I also agree with explaining to children why they need to do what they're told. It's an important part of discipline vs obedience. Good points Patrick!
