"With or With Out You" released right after my wife of 17 years passed away age 36. The spring of 1987 riding my 10 speed thru the forest of the Desmoines River Valley listening to the song. I knew my sons ages 7 and 11 and I were going to survive. 30 years later my 1st grandson was born. I looked at him for the 1st time thinking I seen thoses eye, nose and lips before. Opening a family album of my wife's baby pictures. Twins! She still alive.

Peter Gatliff Your post broke me then made me whole as I lost my beloved after only 18 short years. His presence in my life was larger than life, his absence larger still but slowly moving past his passing I am learning to do more than merely survive but to wholly live. Here's to us, from 💔 to 💖 as keepers of all their beautiful memories.

My dad had the same voice as Bono, he used to sing me this song since it came out.. this was our song.. he was a talented musician, drummer to be precise and singer.. he sang me this song all the time.. even once I was in the car and received a call from him.. all I could hear was the drums and his voice, he was singing the song for me through the phone and all I could do was smile and cry tears of joy at the same time. He passed in 2021. I miss you dad ❤️ I can’t live with or without you ❤️ like a drum, my heart will always beat for you ❤️

I am a huge U2 & Bono fan and was fortunate enough to be front row in the audience for the taping last night. What a moment.. It took everything in me to stop myself from bawling. The passage was beautiful- his words to his wife were aching and relatable. And as he transitioned into the song I had full-on goosebumps!! His voice was so powerful and I loved the tweak of the lyrics. The atmosphere and instrumentation (with Jacknife Lee, Kate Ellis and Gemma Doherty) was especially gorgeous. I loved everything about this- what a gift!

I've always said that Bono doesn't get the credit he deserves as a songwriter. Not to mention, his pipes. This man is a true poet. This is one of the greatest songs ever written and I don't say that as a U2 fan, which I am, but just as a music fan. I love the way the reading slowly morphed into the song and kept building beautifully till the end. Hoping for a tour in the very near future. U2 forever and ever.

As someone who's sang and played in bands for over 30 years, I can tell you that, while the instrumentalists like percussion, guitar, and bass all improve over time, vocals gets the short straw in that your voice is a limited commodity. Anyone criticizing a vocalist of 40+ years, who's probably sang close to 1200+ hours a year on average in arenas and stadiums, should be a bit more understanding.
Put another way: A carpet-layer of 40+ years probably doesn't have the same knees and speed they did in their 20's. Would you expect otherwise?

I'm a fan of U2's early music (up to Zooropa but esp. their first four).
I met Bono on one of U2's tours of Australia. I met The Edge and Larry too - but of all of them Bono was the only who stayed to talk with the people who spent money to see them in concert.
He was really lovely, chatty and charming. I hung back from the main crowd, but finally drummed up the courage to ask him to sign a program for me, which he did. I said "thank you very much" he said "you're very welcome" while *actually making eye contact* with me. I moved away from the group that was swarming him and stood off to the side.
When he started to leave and go into the hotel, he sought me out, put his hand on my forearm and said goodnight.
Things like this stay with an 18 year old girl who was so uncertain of herself. He's an incredible showman, he has a majestic voice, but I will never forget how human he was.

This man! It's easy to become cynical about U2. Cynical bout Bono who's been on every talk show and magazine cover there is. Cynical about a song that is 35 years old and it's recorded version can be yawn inducing when played on afternoon rock radio.
But this man. This man carries the truth of those lyrics. This man has a way of connecting you and I to this story. This man doesn't have a gift, he is the gift. Argh, this man's voice/soul just makes me cry 😭 How does he do that?! This is beautiful. I've often thought Ali must be some kind of saint but when your husband keeps on creating gems like this you can almost see why she puts up with him 😉

I met Ali in a restaurant on Fade St. She is stunning. She just filled the room. It’s the way she carried herself. She looked stunning. My husband went to pay the bill. I made small talk that lasted 30 min. My husband went back to our table and watched in awe. She put her hand on mine, asked me how I liked being married to an Irish man. She asked me how I found living in Ireland, and we said our goodbyes. Ironically, this was on the 24th of December, when most people who are out are hanging around Grafton St. Because Bono is known for playing, there, but the time is never released. Anyway,my daughter met him, in Temple Bar, when he just came in, played a couple of songs and left. We all love, but respect, and honour, them, as well. They’re good people. I wish he and his family, the best for the holiday season- This year, and all of the years that follow….❤

I don't know life without Bono. My earliest memory is him. His book is phenomenal. This performance is unreal. I've seen U2 10 times and still it gives me chills, but this had something extra. I wish he was bringing his book tour to me, so badly.

I remember vividly the first time I ever listened to U2 music, back in 83. I was working nightshift in a big and old hotel by the beach, coconut trees swinging intensely in gusty strong winds, lights were off, turning that whole scene phantasmagoric, ghosty... and then on ambient sound system I heard those chords and I thought "WOW! what is this? who are these kids, this band?" I knew then that that sound was going to change music. It did. Thank you Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry. U2

I remember when I heard U2 for the first time live. It was in Denver, mile high stadium in 1995. Maybe it is was 97. I met Bono that night, after a long wait in the car park. Suddenly it all came back. There might be more wrinkles, but the legend remains and your voice resonates with the same power. Dave.
