Meinl's stable of drummers is insane. Clay, Benny Greb. Mike Johnston, Chris Coleman, Nick Baglio, Nathan Bulla. The list just keeps going and then they give us content like this for free all the time.
2:13 - 2:30 is my fave part of this! Accenting the guitar lines with the cymbals is such a genius move here and leading up to the fill back into the music🫰🏻 *chefs kiss*
Seeing him perform live is AMAZING! The fact that hes smiling soo much makes it even more awesome because you know hes having a good time liike we are in the crowd! You can tell he feels every beat he lays down. 🔥🔥🔥
It’s been incredible to see the style he cultivated for such a specific sound with Polyphia’s evolution really mature into what it has today. So inspiring in so many ways-thanks Meinl for the awesome videos!
Easily one of my favorite things about Polyphia as a whole, the amount of dynamic song structure, technical finesse and just a passion to make the coolest shit with the skill to bring that to life. It’s crazy to see what these guys manage to pull off without the standard tools artists usually use to tell their stories
@@microchrist6122 it was my first time as well, although I have a disability so I was in the accessible seating because I wouldn't have been able to sit or stand in the "red rocks" area lol. They gave me a nice little spot in the mezzanine
Ditto. It just makes the songs sound goofy, not unique in an interesting way. I have no idea why they continue to use the most fake sounding sample replacements and filters. This sounds amazing just as is!
Silly Conspiracy Theory: The band is big-braining and are fully aware of the difference in characteristics of sound. This way, their listeners that tune into certain aspects of their production (like live-sounding drums or playthroughs) are even more appreciative of their skill, leading to even deeper appreciation of the music and the band. 🤔 Was the case for me and seeing them play Genesis with Brasstracks live. That, was definitely an awesome experience.
@@EricGonzaloI don’t follow your argument, though I kind of see what you’re getting at… maybe? The point stands, regardless of their intentions or big brains. Most fans of Polyphia who also play drums, would prefer to simply hear real drum tracks over highly sample-replaced tracks. I will say, I think the hip hop drum production could work really well over select parts, as many metal bands use during interludes and bridges. I just don’t think they do the songs justice when it’s the ONLY drum sound throughout the album. You know? Use it when it fits; don’t when it doesn’t.
I'm not arguing anything, more like pondering that they're leaving lots of room for interpretation of their work. For people that enjoy the electronic music production aspect, the analog drum sounds, the virtosic instrument masteries, the catchy "pop" hooks, their blending of genres, they've got something anyone can enjoy. In this case, they "overproduce drums" so that they can do natural-sounding Sponsor features (or bring their live experience to another level) to showcase another angle of their music and skillful performance!
Interesting to hear the drums not being heavily gated. It sounds incredible but I understand why they want to shorten the length of each notes in order to obtain a "trap" sound
Plenty of cymbal and accent hits. May not be the most intricate song on the album, but it’s tasteful and has a lot of cymbals in it and this is a Meinl video
Excellent kick, excellent groove, excellent job. Quite a few of those cymbals have really good sound. They really cut. A couple were a little too bright. I know this is a cymbal commercial, but... Someone please do SOMETHING with that snare drum. The rest of the kit sounds great, especially that kick... (Or should I say great mics, and excellent mix?)
Meinl has been the absolute GOATS lately with these prog/core drummers!
polyphia is neither of these lol
I think the drum is more like hip hop

Came here to say this! Clay's cymbal work is on a other level. I wouldn't be half as interested in the band without this guy.

Setting aside Clay's musicality, sometimes it is just so cool to see the joy and passion at the heart of the musicians while they play.

It’s a joy to watch someone love their craft and be amazing at it
The writing is so tastefully done, perfect amount of space and variance mixed with perfectly timed, crazy lines.
Clay's groove is just crazy man he's def gotta be one of the grooviest in recent memory
My mother said Clay looks like he has a cymbal for every letter of the English alphabet - what crisp finesse
as soon as the song hit, that snare tone. straight MONEY
love how those consistent snare hits keep you from getting too overwhelmed by the craziness
WOO! Clay is back! Love seeing his playthroughs on the Meinl channel!
Clay the conquerer of cymbals
The effortlessness is so intoxicating. Go on with ya bad self clay
Ultra excited to see this tomorrow live! Hell yeah!!!

Really wish Polyphia would stop overproducing their drums. This sounds so much better...

Non drummer here, sorry for the dumb question...what are the little orange circles on the snare & bass tom doing? Tuning?
I prefer this over the studio versions nothing against them I just feel this is my bones
how i love him
What is that device on the stand over his left shoulder?
He's like the modern day Nick Menza, the same tremendous skill and joyous look on his face while he plays.

No, this one is full speed, they just slow down Audacity because of how insane it is
it is definitely slowed down. Doesn't sync up at all to the original tempo. @@darkcrypter
