    I have a fuel ex, transition relay, and a scott gravel bike. If I ride the emtb twice i cycle the analog bike out for a trip. I like training at a lower zone. Some of our trails are so tough I spend too much time at too high a zone to be helpful it actually seems like it hurts my fitness.

    The reason for not owning an eMTB as the only bike would be the statistics around faults and warranty claims. My eMTB was back with the dealer due to cracks in the frame within 3 months. My friend needed a new motor and battery within less than 12 months. It’s risky not to have a regular bike as a back up, warranty claims can sometimes take months to get resolved. But in terms of eMTB, lightweight is the way to go, there are also range extenders if range is an issue. 50Nm torque is plenty to get up any hill.

      You make some great points and range extenders are a great addition to a lightweight eMTB. I’m definitely keeping my regular bike (polygon N9), but I’m hoping to review more e-bikes in the future as well.

    I have a Fuel EXe and a Canyon Spectral. Love both, but if I had to get rid of one the Canyon would be gone instantly. Like you said, the mid-power bike rides close enough to a normal bike when off. I set my low power setting to provide just enough power to overcome the slight drag from the motor, so in that setting it just feels like a regular bike. Medium setting make me feel like a pro XC rider. Full power to get over really techy and/or steep climbs.

      Definitely 👍 I just got done riding g the Forestal in full-power mode 🤩 I was flying uphill. So much fun!
      BUT I just can’t let go of my Polygon N9. I put so much time and money into to upgrading it. Love that bike!

    E-BIKE. ALL DAY EVERYDAY. IF I COULD ONLY HAVE 1. I’d quite racing in a heartbeat. But let’s be real. It’s more like 2 bikes. I’d keep my Santa Cruz bullet and my canyon spectral 125. Oh. And my Chromag rootdown. Aaaaaaaaand my transition sentinel. Guess I’m keeping 4. 🤣

      👍 I can’t get rid of the Polygon N9, but I really want to keep the N8E as well. I have to send back the Forestal by the end of this month. I’m supposed to be sending back the N8E as well, but I’m hoping I can talk them into letting me keep both the N8E and N9…

    I’m fortunate enough to own all 3 types Orbea Rise, Wild and Evil Wreckoning. Depending on how I feel will dictate what choose to ride that day, awesome to have options. If I had to choose one it would be the Wild it’s the most capable and tons of fun, although the heaviest by far, on trail the difference is not that noticeable at least for me.

      @JaredHoff  9 месяцев назад

      Heck yeah man 👍 I love having the options that I do right now. Unfortunately, I have to send back the lightweight e-bike soon and the heavy e-bike eventually as well. Just can’t get rid of my regular MTB.

  • @MilitaryVet
    @MilitaryVet 9 месяцев назад +1

    I can never get rid of my regular MTB, but e-bikes are so much fun. Lightweight eMTBs strike a good balance, but you can’t ride them with your friends that have full-powered electric bikes.

    • @kevinc7632
      @kevinc7632 9 месяцев назад

      I can beat them all in my group on a transition relay. Full power bike doesnt provide killer bike skills. Drops, rocks, switchbacks, and muscle endurance come into play. Emtb is full body fitness with some of the cardio. So my skill/ fitness beats full powers all day at our trails.

    Im going to get rail 9,8 or yt core 5 to go with my 2022 Slash 9.8xt. I had inner debate of selling my slash for the ebike. But i absolutely love my slash, cant separate with its. Its such a good looking bike and so much fun. I decided im going to keep both.
    I have tried ebike before from my friend who has Yt core 4. While its much fun with that assist, i felt that its much stiffer and less maneuverable than Slash. On downhill id take the analog bike any day. On bike park and trail riding ebike. Also i felt in very rocky technical trails ebike seems to be doing better, because the assist makes your momentum much better, making you to not stop.
    Id say if you can put money, keep both. They have their place. If not keep the analog. Its more versatile, less cost, less maintaining. If you are old and dont ride alot of downhill keep ebike.

      Definitely agree 👍 I’m going to keep the N9 (regular bike) for now but I’m going to have to send the rest back. Hopefully I’ll get to review more e-bikes in the future or be able to buy one for myself

    100% an analogue bike. I like to travel to Europe for my summer holidays, taking my MTB and you can't fly with e-bike batteries and, so far, you can't hire them in resort. I'm not surprised that's not a thing yet as there are so many brands and no standardisation so it'll be very difficult/expensive to carry all the different stock you might need.
    Also, when I go to the Alps there are uplifts ;-)

    I used to be very eager to try and buy ebikes and I still think they are perfect commuters for a lot of people but to be perfectly honest and frank I've come to dislike EMTBs, at first when we got the turbo levo I enjoyed climbing up my local abandoned ski station in less than half the time but then the noise is a real bummer personally it annoys me at the highest level, the weight in second, third they are getting banned around here, fourth depreciation and complexity... And finally the dork factor 😅

      @@JaredHoff I wanted to love them as a dirtbiker and lover of everything on two wheels, also very importantly I get that it helps "bring people to the trails" but I'm not sure in which camp I am about that, do beginners really need all that speed?
      I don't like government overreaching in our lives, mountain biking and cycling in general is one way to escape all of this and be free, not sure it's a good thing to have the need for more regulations and limitations on the sport because of ebikes capabilities, idk where we are going but I'm pretty sure we're heading into a swooping regulatory wall and maybe locals starting to get annoyed by littering, noise, volume of riders etc etc
      Just during the pandemic I saw the effects of increased traffic on the trails, not sure, not sure it's a good thing 💀

    All these bikes are good but the N 8 e is the way to go. I have been riding since 1986 when bikes had no suspension to what they have evolved to today. If you get a sensible e bike like the N 8 e the cost to replace the analog parts is not as much as it is for one with all the other electronic shit. I think the full power e bike weight helps.

    • @streddaz
      @streddaz 9 месяцев назад +2

      The full power does eat drivetrain way faster than the less powered Ebikes, so you do need to factor that in. You also can't service the Shimano motors, so of warrantee it's hit and miss if you can keep them running long term.

    • @trailpimp6369
      @trailpimp6369 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@streddaz yes I agree with you. I have a canyon Torque on e bike and it has a battery and a motor. It has SLX analog for the drivetrain which is dirt cheap to replace. I am loving my new bike and cannot wait to take it to the ski lifts this summer for park riding. I love flying boost man.

    • @streddaz
      @streddaz 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@trailpimp6369 I would be interested to see what the Shimano Cues drivetrain is like. You can get that in 9, 10 or 11 speed so you have thicker sprockets and chain. Plus, it is a cheaper group set to begin with.

    I’ll play the devils advocate- if it’s about the being with a group of guys and going for it - why can’t that be done with regular bikes especially if you’re young - at 63 I still enter enduro events on my Trek Ex 9.8 - still have fun 5 hour outings - just have to be more dedicated to training - from the ages of 25 to say 35 you don’t really need to train at all - I just don’t need the massive expense & complexity of an e-bike - too be honest the real place of an e-bike is assist people who have major health challenges, age related degradation of bones etc
