Can’t believe I just watched a 45min video on bike suspension when I don’t even own one. Really interesting look at all the intricacies involved, had no clue. Cool video!
Road Glide funny you say that I’m just getting into it, have always been into cars but lately have been itching to see what it’s like to be on a bike. When things get back to normal and I have a job again definitely looking into it. So what’s a good beginner naked bike?? I love the look of the Ducati Monsters but is the 797 too much or ok? Thanks!

I have to agree, and I like you Bill. But please dude. You have someone of Dave Moss quality and hes talking about what hes doing. And you just wont shut the hell up man! For F**K sakes man! For all of us that dont live in the US and have streetfighters it would have been such a great opportunity to watch the master. And what do we get? You giving us a live stupid commentary over Mr Moss. So god dam frustrating man!!!! God dammit.
Dave Mosss is a wizard when it comes to suspension tuning. He turned my R1 Yamaha years ago at Button Willow. My bike went from a scary handling bike to one that felt as though I was riding on a monorail. He was patient and through adjusting a little bit here try it and get input. He followed me on the track, I followed him. He is EXCEPTIONAL. Besides being a great guy. Thanks Dave for a much improved ride, better confidence. Not to mention much improved lap times.
This was so unbelievably helpful. I'm more or less the same size as you and have 400 miles on my SF V4S odo. The only video I watched that I actually took notes on. Thanks!
Watched and learned a lot from Dave Moss over the last couple of years on RUclips., he certainly knows his stuff. Must be great to have him drop by and fine tune the suspension for you. Really enjoy your vlogs.
Long video however I’ve watched parts multiple times! Having owned a V4S Panigale for 2 years I’ve never really understood the electronic suspension, now I do. Made so much difference to an amazing bike now it’s personalised to my weight and riding ability on road and track. Thank you for a great tutorial video
Great vid. So Dave helped me dial in my 2019 V4S Panigale track bike. He is a master. I recently bought a 2022 SF too, just dialed it in using your setting here. Magic! Dave is a suspension whisperer!
Great informative video. Dave is a suspension guru. He was kind enough to respond to me, a novice nobody, on one of his SV 650 suspension videos and gave me great starting points in adjusting my upgraded front and rear suspension. Humble man for sure! Ride safe.
Thanks so much for this video, absolutely transformed my 2018 V4s just from your knowledge ... I don't really do track riding but you have helped turn my bike from an unpredictable stock setup to something that I am confident to push on with, couple of little tweaks to do but from this video alone I now understand suspension more than I ever did and know exactly what I want to change hats off to you lads !!!
I’ve just got a streetfighter v4s and I’ve just followed Dave’s instructions and when /if it ever stops raining here in Sussex England hope to see if it suits my weight etc thanks to you and Dave for an in depth video 🍻🍺
Awesome video, learned a lot. So many videos about squeezing more power, louder exhausts, carbon fiber etc, all for nothing if the bike not set up for your weight etc. In lockdown due to covid here in Melbourne, Australia. Loving your video series on the streefighter, keep them coming Mr Cali Moto!
New to your channel- my new street fighter brought me to you. Like what your doing . But you kept interrupting the master as he was trying to explain the intricate workings of your suspension to you . It would be like barbecuing with Aaron Franklin and keep stepping in to let him know fire is hot. Not trying to be a dick . Other than that this was hands-down the best Ducati electronic suspension video I’ve ever seen and will Be replicating the settings as we look to be about the same height and weight
Dave seems such a cool guy and a well of knowledge. His style is very animated which makes it fun and interesting even if you ahven't got a clue what he's talking about :)
Learned so much and points out how much more there is to understand. Getting this bike in the summer (when lockdown ends here in the UK) - so this vid will be one of my reference points. Thanks so much. Yours aye, Alan
I truly appreciate this video. Please follow up with more. I’m curious to know how the adjustments worked for you and what you learned. I struggle to fully understand suspension, but I learned a lot from this video. Thanks, to you and Dave! Keep doing what you’re doing.
@@CaliMotoTV - Oh, for sure! I watch plenty of Dave's videos. This is the first video I've seen of him working on a bike with such sophisticated electronics. Very cool. Thanks for the reply! I look forward to future content.
Yep, great content once again man.. funny I just set up my static sag yesterday on my bike, ended up with the same setting .. lol. Not as knowledgeable as Dave but I used to set up my own race bikes way back in the day. This has been very helpful as I am not used to these electronic suspensions on the modern bikes. Pretty amazing
what about rider sag? What is your weight w/o gear and were you able to get to 40 mm front, 30 mm rear with the stock springs? They are soft! 8.5 N/m front and 80 N/m rear.
I'm really glad that I found this video and within the first few minutes Dave made my local Ducati dealer's sales guy's statement false. When asked if they did sag adjustments he claimed that the forks didn't require it. The I politely pushed back, he said that the shock could be adjusted. 😡
Great video again, very helpful as i will be taking delivery of my streetfighter next week, and feel i know alot more about the bikes suspension adjustability. The only thing i don't get is why Ducati are sending out their bikes with no static sag if its considered dangerous. Love to know the answer. Keep the videos coming really enjoying them.
Really interesting video and no doubt Dave knows his 💩. Ive actually just had my RSV4 setup and my what a difference!! I definitely agree getting your suspension setup for your bike is definitely one of if not the single best mod you can do with your bike completely changes the behaviour of the bike. Adam 🇬🇧
Super interesting video, totally absorbed by it! Almost pleased that my bike has no riding modes and no front fork adjustment because you need to know what you are doing and I think it would blow my mind. Dave Moss wow!!
no1 in lebanon /beirut touch the oem suspension i guess 40 bucks is way cheap will be more then happy paying 100 bucks, talent got a price again enjoy the SFV4S
I noticed you guys didn't adjust the front preload at all. Was it not needed or was it done off camera? Curious as I'm trying to work on my suspension as well lol.
First video I have saw of yours, i read a couple of comments about u interrupting and talking too much b4 I watched, glad I never bailed, great stuff! Been really tempted to make the trade to the streetfighter from my tuono, this has tempts me more..argh
In the dynamic modes... does yours pass the front fork bounce test? Also, there any front preload? I’m 5’10” 185 without gear and trying to set mine up here in SoCal
Interesting video-What’s the spring rate front and back and did you need to change them?? You look a similar weight to me, do you know what weight ranges the stock springs support? Thanks!
Hello , Thank you for having Dave to explain the DES. I am new to the V4 world, I own 2018 V4S and I took it to the track at NJMP. It was a nightmare riding it. I am an intermediate rider and I usually run 1:5 or 1:6 on my zx10R but with the V4 whatever I tried I was at 2:00 and 1:58at best. How do you select the customer setting Dave made for you. When I changed all the settings it still say Dynamic instead of Custom. How do you set Custom as active setting. Thank you
Hej CAli ! Would be nice to se a setup on the regular Tuono 660 ( not RS ) to se what adjustments that can be made and so on . Like static sag and front forks . nobody has done this , The RS version is way different . and can't be replicated to the regular tuono 660
Did the adjustment have a dramatic effect on the handling. How is the ride quality now, is it plush and how does it feel through the corners? It would be great if you can just make one vid just about the SF4's hamdling in corners. Not seen any videos that have a great focus on how the SF4 rides thru' the corners. Reviews generally covers a broad set of issues.
So what do you do when you are adjusting the front rebound and you crank it all the way down to 32 and it doesn’t fail? (Which is what I’m getting now)
How good is that electronic control? Like you, I almost understand it, but when I had my s1000r set up at the track I had no clue what the guys were telling me (but I knew it was much improved).
Cali Moto - appreciate the video. I have an SFV4s as well, used this to set my baseline. (Love Dave Moss, and have had has paid app in years past). One question... I didn't see you guys set Front Sag... Did Dave play around with that at all, or leave it at Factory settings?
Cali Moto TV - he actually checks shock static sag, but doesn’t check riders Sag.... he also doesn’t do anything with the fork Sag at al. Dave moss is genius with this stuff, so curious why it’s not the typical shock and fork rider Sag being set before he dials in compression and rebound. (I watched the whole thing, twice)
Regarding the steering damper; isn't there additional resistance to steering input from the gyroscopic effect of the front spinning wheel ( depending on the speed of course )? Is that considered while adjusting the steering damper settings?
When you enter your own settings in Custom Dynamic or Fixed Suspension, can you switch between the factory settings and your customer settings or do the custom settings fully replace the factory settings, meaning you have the set the custom settings back to 'default' if you want to revert?
i can’t understand if every map like road/sport/race have different setting in dynamic or the suspension are “only” active and are reactive to diffrent condition like if i go faster or in a slow corner…finally i get a v4 s and i want to understand this thing before i retire the bike ✌️
@@CaliMotoTV sorry if i not explain well but i mean if when you set the DES in dynamics the suspensions are set differently for each map you set or the suspensions act as you drive the motorbike in dynamic mode…and when you custom the dynamic suspension you can set your setup only the map race?
@@CaliMotoTV I have the spec cards, Ohlins doesn't make them public so you would not be aware unless you are an Ohlins service center or have access to the knowledge base. Dave certainly knows his stuff for sure but there was some incorrect info so in the interest of being helpful I posted. The frame is black but does not have the cutouts from the R, I wish it did but you know how Ducati does, next year they will make a Streetfighter R and use that frame....take a look for yourself behind the side panel, no cutout, right?
tyre can't lie, and look at those huge chicken strips..... man take some circuit riding coarses cause you're missing all the fun. Then adjust your suspension...
Probably great content. Unfortunately same issue for me as some comments below. After 5 minutes had to stop watching because the annoying guy interviewing keeps on interrupting and making noises after almost every sentence Dave speaks.
Did you cut off the shock sag and rider sad portion? Also how much do you weigh?
Nice. So what rider weight is the bike stock suspension set up for?
Regarding the steering damper; isn't there additional resistance to steering input from the gyroscopic effect of the front spinning wheel ( depending on the speed of course )? Is that considered while adjusting the steering damper settings?
Great video. What is your weight the bike is set up for?
240lbs
@@CaliMotoTV awesome cheers, I’m a little less at 96kg clean skin but with full kit I’d up around those figures I think
Does oil viscosity change as it heats up in the shock and forks? I.e. gets thinner as it gets hotter?
When you enter your own settings in Custom Dynamic or Fixed Suspension, can you switch between the factory settings and your customer settings or do the custom settings fully replace the factory settings, meaning you have the set the custom settings back to 'default' if you want to revert?
@@CaliMotoTV Thanks pal, much appreciated. Enjoyed the video immensely.
i can’t understand if every map like road/sport/race have different setting in dynamic or the suspension are “only” active and are reactive to diffrent condition like if i go faster or in a slow corner…finally i get a v4 s and i want to understand this thing before i retire the bike ✌️
Not sure I understand what you're asking.
@@CaliMotoTV sorry if i not explain well but i mean if when you set the DES in dynamics the suspensions are set differently for each map you set or the suspensions act as you drive the motorbike in dynamic mode…and when you custom the dynamic suspension you can set your setup only the map race?
Did you take the arrow exhaust back off ?
Btw, the Streetfighter does not have the V4R frame and stock valving is quite light, C1/R1 per Ohlins spec card.
Which bar end mirrors are those?
Yup...suspension setup is the first thing you should do to your bike..
Damn, I wish this guy was in New York.
@@CaliMotoTV he needs to let people know. many people out here wants suspension work. he can definitely take my money.
What made you choose SF over Panigale? If money was not the issue. I’m from KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA 🇲🇾 .
Ok thank you . Im in the middle watching this video again, he’s the OG for suspension set up, lucky you .
Perfect!
Hello @Cali Moto TV can this be applied for the Base model V4 Streetfighter without the electronic suspension?
@@CaliMotoTV I get that, I didnt watch the whole video, but do they also not have some manual adjustments or are they now 100% electronic?
@guizado it’s manual pre load front and rear
Very good ! ;)
What's your weight Cali Moto? Just trying to cheat my way😂😂😂
How can I meet Dave
Get on GRNDR
Nothing like over complicating life. Then the dude has a burger and chips (fries!!!), and screws up all the fine tuning 😃
Why you would want the steering dampener on the hardest setting is beyond me
it's acceleration, I guess in sport mode the acceleration is already set to 0
Please post your rider weight.
Why are you shouting at me?
Good video otherwise :)
@@CaliMotoTV Keep it up!
bills yelling so viewers can understand hear better.
Dan dman just ride can hear Dave fine, there’s no need to yell
Assetto perfettamente regolato komplimemti. Perô con una moto cosi guardando la gomma posteriore non piega una minkia. Meglio un 50tino per sto tipo.
Coz Race mode doesn’t have ABS
That's not correct.
tyre can't lie, and look at those huge chicken strips..... man take some circuit riding coarses cause you're missing all the fun. Then adjust your suspension...
Why are you yelling when you speak?
Probably great content. Unfortunately same issue for me as some comments below. After 5 minutes had to stop watching because the annoying guy interviewing keeps on interrupting and making noises after almost every sentence Dave speaks. No offense but please be quiet and let the expert do the talking.
