So I replaced this 25 year old MOEN tub spout with a new one that came with this nice escutcheon plate. The diverter was busted on the old one. Turned out looking awesome

That was the landlord.
He didn't had to do that extra work to replace a simple spout, but it shows how much he loves his job and takes pride in the smallest things. Rare thing now a days

He had too because the copper is grounded and the screw that tightens it also works as the connection ro the ground...

I was in construction for over 6 months and have installed enough faucets, shower heads, cabinets, drywall, framing, roofing, etc and I never had to do that amount of extra work for a simple faucet. The putty was not even necessary but it does provide an alternative to keep the copper pipe last longer.

It seems super wasteful to replace the whole spout.
I’m not a plumber, so I don’t mean to bash on anyone.

It's pretty solid but if you get even the smallest amount of dirt in it it jams up terribly. Had to decommission mine because it was inoperable after a month of regular use.
@@theplumberlorian toughbuilt has some sweet ass random tools like that. I have the self leveling laser level and it’s so sick. It has helped me so much more than I ever intended. Also bought a few of my maintenance techs some of those scraper blades.
He just waltz passed having a knife that switched from slicer to scraper without the awe it deserves.

Tough Biilt scraper utility knife at lowes for $20. It's pretty cool, a little bulky, but it is a 2:1 tool.
I like their reloadable mag razor blade but I am a gun nut so there’s that too

@@theplumberlorian But I was waiting for you to solder a connector so that the spout could be fastened to the copper pipe, don't tell me that the new spout works just by pushing it in? Another short that I saw the pipe had threads, they teflon taped it and they screwed it in by turning it and lastly they used that Alan wrench under the spout to secure it so that it wouldn't turn.

Done the right way. I'm a 23yr plumber and most companies won't go the extra mile and want you just to change out the tub spout and leave asap....

Honestly in 25. Years of life i did not know the spout is just a vanity cover. I thought it had the piping in it to direct the water down 😂

There are different styles. This one has a setscrew up in the bottom. I have a spout that threads on to the water pipe nipple. Then the caulking is squirted in Round the interface to the tile. Then cleaned off.
Some had diverters, which do redirect pressure
@@theplumberlorian ...funnily, in my country, our spouts are part of the actual piping, and have female threads at the back, due to our 600kpa pressure. 👍🇿🇦🍻
The older ones used to have a female threaded connection so u would have to solder a 1/2 inch male adapter onto the end of the copper at a very precise measurement off of the tile wall to the first thread of the adapter so that the spout would fit up tight to the tile wall. They changed to this design in the 1990’s . I think central brass was the last company to still have a spout with female threads but they even converted to the Allen key style years ago.

This is genius installation!!! He used that back plate so that putty or if it was silicone wouldn't interfere with the set screw on the tub spout. That back plate provides clearance! WHAT A GREAT IDEA TO USE PUTTY TO KEEP WATER FROM GOING INTO THE WALL AND KEEP BUGS OUT! THIS IS WORTH THE EXTRA EFFORT TO PREVENT WALL DAMAGE & MOLD!....... HEY GUYS PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THIS!!!
So I can buy just a backplate ? And it is called “ plumber’s putty “ to Fill the gap ? I might have some of that somewhere 🤔 and what kind of caulk around the plate ? Single lady here doing her best to learn new things and make
My shower usable! The diverter seems Fine but when I turned the water on and used it , the whole faucet shot like a cannon across the shower 😂😂😂 true story 🤣🤣 there are no screws holding anything down either 🤷♀️

In America people don't use taps screwed into the wall but simply chrome covers over copper pipe!
Ah, that was the comment I was looking for... thx! I got confused, bc in Germany it is common to have a screw thread as connection between pipe and faucet.
