Id like to thank Kris and Rita for showing me how to beat the devil , they never knew that they saved my life. And taught me to appreciate music, especially country music as a rebellious teenage boy in the 70s. Thank you, and R.I.P. Kris ! From one who wanted to know .
They were not young anymore but their voices seem to be even better...if possible! And Johnny Cash is just amazing in this scene: white hair, golden voice and his unique way to make us feel every word. Thank you for this!
It usually happens pretty quick. My dad went from working out 6 days a week and in phenomenal shape to looking like an old frail cripple in 3-4 months. Past bodybuilding had done a number on his lumbar spine and both of his hips & knees. Thankfully having 2 vertebrae fused and replacing one of his hips fixed about 90% of his pain but it only got worse. Once your health starts slipping it’s hard to get it back under control.
@@LudiCrust. sadly what you say is true, my sisters first symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis started just two years ago, now she is in much pain and various medications. 🙏🙏
Gads, I just love this song. Been watching The Band perform it. I'd have hard time deciding which version is best. I think the best is the 1 I'm currently watching. And Cash & Kristofferson are excellent.
A complete renaissance man and the last of my heroes. Never afraid to launch into something entirely new and different, even when it showed he was only human. I doubt we’ll get many more Oxford educated Rhodes scholar, helicopter piloting musicians who could write the best country and crossover songs, raise hell and face the consequences of it with a smile. You were the top of the heap Kris
Kris is one of the most gracious and generous musicians ever. Such a talent and always willing to play second fiddle without sacrificing an ounce of passion. This is a blessing to have heard again today.
Black white vail is one of my favorite songs of Mr. Jonny cash I love him and miss that 😢 he is not here with us here on earth but I know he still with us thank you for playing this song
Kristofferson doesn't often sing these old traditional songs. A pity, his voice is beautifully suited to them--wonderful that Cash had him join in this one
It was written in 1959 and Lefty Frizzell recorded it. I wouldn’t call it traditional, maybe some arrangement present it that way. I think the Chieftain’s version is hard to beat.
There is an interesting story about how Johnny and Kris met so many years ago. As the story goes, Kris had been a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and had a song he wanted Johnny to hear, so he rented a helicopter and landed it in Johnny's back yard. Kris got a gig, and they became lifelong friends, but also friends with Waylon, Willie, Dolly, etc, etc
I was waitin for Kris to start wailin on his harp, but alas I'll just have to wail on my own harp as I perform this song tonight on Broadway Street, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. It took me a long time until I finally heard this song, and ever since it remains for me as one of my all time favorites
+Daniel McGee ... Well here I am a year later, still playin' the streets of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and still singing that song at least once every single night
+thomas myers nosal Right on Brother......I hope you have a Long and Fulfilling career. If I ever get up that way I will have to come see you in person.....Have a Good'n.

I think this was around this time that Bono asked Cash to sing "The Wanderer" for the Zooropa album. It was the start of Cash's great resurrection. Soon after this, he met with Rick Rubin and the rest is history.

I always liked the Dave Matthews version of this as well. Showed that to my grandpa one time a few years ago and he looked like he was going to vomit during it. I wasn't surprise since he loves Johnny Cash so much and hearing anyone else sing that is like his blasphemy.
I'm not a big Cash fan, but this is a pretty good version of one of my favorite songs. Kris adds a lot to it. One other thing, to suggest that this a Cash song, is heresy, Lefty Frizzell owns this song, no one touches him on it.
yes, this is not a Cash song. But not a Lefty Frizzell song either. As far as I know it was written by Marijohn Wilkin, the one who also wrote the beautiful One day at a time 😊 Have just googled, Danny Dill co-wrote it. She even wrote an answer song - that was new to me ruclips.net/video/W6j8xjMV0p0/видео.html
I am with you Charles. Cash wrote very few of his hits and did a lot of covers. I think he is one of the most over-rated country stars ever. Merle Haggard was in a completely different category than Cash. And Lefty does own this song.
@@marccohen4571 Absolutely atrocious statement. He might not be in your top five country artists and that’s fine but he is an outlaw legend. Him and a select few redefined country. Very stupid statement.
Of course i'm not d\so honourably stupid (or would one say stupidly honourable?) I would have told the judge I was in the arms of my best friend's wife. Might have lost a lover and a best friend, but the lady in the long black veil would not have to roam around missing her sleep. ;) It was quite likely that the slayer was the woman's husband, knowing he'd get away with his crime, counting on the guilty behaviour of his wife and best friend.
There will never be any other like these two. Rest in Heaven Johnny and Kris.

The BAND DOES THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VERSION during the Last Waltz ❤❤❤

Kris loved singing harmony for John. He did it so well. It is always special when these two sing together. 😊
Hard to believe that JC was gone just 10yrs later, his body ravaged by illness. He looks well here, strong and healthy. RIP 🙏

The most gracious and generous..." That was my impression meeting him many years ago... I will always carry with me that memory...
Is that you, God?
True of both of these artists
Förtröstan, innerligt ❤❤

Kris was indeed a helicopter pilot, but in the National Guard.............he never served in Vietnam/

So awesome!! Have u guys heard Anderson family's version ofvthis!!:)?
2 frères très liés par leur musique et très élégants.
C'est la vérité!
NICE. I believe Lefty Frizell sang this song and sang it first. thank you .
Great upload....thanks for sharing.

Actually, The Band does a great version. I like it better than Lefty.
I am with you Charles. Cash wrote very few of his hits and did a lot of covers. I think he is one of the most over-rated country stars ever. Merle Haggard was in a completely different category than Cash. And Lefty does own this song.

Ya'll going to hate my face for this one, but while this is a great version, Emmylou Harris and Dave Mathews is my fav.
Yes!!!
She walks these hills
Dave Matthews did a great cover of this in one of his concerts that was released on DVD (Listener Supported)
Kalau saya mendengar iram a country, rasanya kemiskinan itu bukan suatu beban.
Johnny
anyone who hasnt heard jamey johnson sing this you should check it out

Long black veil
Good night,Kris....!.●●●
Wow
Prekrasno
is Varg Vikernes in the middle playing guitar???? lol
GiliBertoni No, this is John Carter Cash, John Cash´ s son. /CD
My kids lullaby
It's because it reminds him of Janis Joplin. Same with me and Bobbie McGee
I love these guys/Highwaymen, but its not the best version of an old Irish tune.
Johnny cash est plutôt malade et maigre, mais il chante tjrs.
He left out the verse about not telling the judge he was in the arms of his best friend's wife. The song doesn't really work without it.
With drums
This is a very good version, but in my book no one tops Rick Danko of The Band's version.

Lad, the Irish are far less complicated than your plot. We can be blessed with silence...a gift of loyalty.
