Just recently got up the nerve to admit that this is what I NEED to be doing. I’m 31 and had only ever dabbled in high school productions, and gave up on my “unrealistic dream” quite young. I’m finally realizing I don’t think I can be fulfilled if I don’t give this a shot. Don’t even care about where I end up; I just gotta be in it. Wanted to thank you for these videos. Yours were the first I watched a few months ago when I decided I had to do this. I’ve been watching a lot of them lately and you’ve been answering all of the questions I’d been too afraid to ask, and some I hadn’t even thought to. Now practically all I watch on youtube is information on how to make this happen. Thanks for reigniting the dream!
@Megan Raine honestly, same! I’m tuning 28 this year and just like yourself, I also admitted the same to myself, that I could never beat the regret of not giving acting at least a try. We could legitimately be friends since we seem to have a shared experience of sorts lol xD @Acting Career Center thank you for the helpful information and reigniting that flame in many of us. I’m sure we’re not the only ones that needed that extra push and that had all of these questions in mind (and then some).
I have had big (but suppressed) dreams about acting since I was little kid, but lately, I’ve seriously thought about going for it and been really encouraged by this channel. As a not super attractive person (I don’t lack self confidence, but I am aware that I’m rather average) I wonder how much that actually affects the possibility of a career?
I think a more important question is, do you LOVE to act? If you love to act then do it. Your ability to act is not based on your appearance, it's based on your ability to live truthfully under the given imaginary circumstances. Jennifer Laurence was told by multiple producers that she was "too fat" to make it for long in the industry. Kate Winslet received a lot of criticism for her looks when she was first studying drama as a child, being often told that she was "too fat" and her feet were "ill-proportioned." When she was 14, a drama teacher told her that she might “do okay” if she was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. After winning a BAFTA award for best supporting actress, she made sure to include in her press interviews that young actresses shouldn’t listen to teachers, friends, or even parents who put them down and instead ignore them to rise above their insecurities. In an interview with BBC, Judy Dench said that she didn’t begin her film career until the '60s because of a disastrous audition she had with a director who told her she would never make it on the silver screen because her face was “wrongly arranged.” Eventually she gave film another try, which eventually led to a successful career including an Oscar, six film BAFTAs, and four television BAFTAs,. Wynona Ryder was in the middle of an audition at the age of 15 or 16 when she was interrupted by the casting director who said “Listen, kid. You should not be an actress. You are not pretty enough. You should go back to wherever you came from and you should go to school. You don’t have it.” In 1976 Meryl Streep went in to audition for the movie "King Kong". As she stood in his office, producer Dino De Laurentiis turned to his son and asked in Italian why he had brought him such an "ugly woman." Unfortunately for De Laurentiis, Streep knew a little Italian herself, which allowed her to fire back in the language that she was sorry for being too ugly to be in his movie. Since then she's been nominated for 21 academy awards (won 3). Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a horse (.com) but has that stopper her? She has stayed busy since 1983 and has a new TV series coming out this year. It's important to remember that if all it takes for you to quit acting is someone telling you should quit - then you're not cut out for this profession. But if you LOVE to act, then do it. Don't ask for permission.
@@liquidbraino That sounds like really good advice. Those are really inspiring examples :) I do really, really love to act. All of my community theaters have been closed because of Covid and I miss it like crazy!

Hello. I really enjoy the content you put out here. I went to my very first job as a background actress yesterday. I'm playing a nurse on set. I brought way too much stuff(a suitcase full), but I wanted to be prepared for anything. I was very much ahead of the actors who have not watched these videos. I learned so much from your videos. I am more confident due to being prepared. It was the best job I have ever been to. Everyone loves to be at work. I met so many great people. I got to SEE all the famous actors, and due to your videos, I behaved myself and didn't fall on the floor for them. Thank you for you content. Maybe I'll see you on set somedahy.
thank you. I'm just coming back after many years away, so at 70 it's a REAL BEGINNING. Happy to be on the journey especially at this age. Gotta keep going!!
GREAT content Kurt. Thank you so much for always making your videos super accessible, practical, and real. It gives me, what I believe, to be a very accurate picture of what it takes to become an actor like yourself in film and television. I love your ending charge, calling us to enjoy the journey and love the journey itself instead of always focusing on the destination. I am guilty of only wanting the destination now :) I'm still figuring out if this acting thing is for me! But your videos truly push me in the right direction to have the most realistic picture of what it's like to get there. No matter what, these are lessons for life. Thanks so much again! Hope to see you on set one day!
