The worst part is NY reviewed the replay clearly showing profar was not hit and STILL refused to overturn the call. They are affecting the very integrity of the game.
MLB gives the Yankees and Mets an unfair advantage by having the replay team in NY, staffed by (you guessed it) Yankees and Mets fans. It's friggin' 2 am when they are reviewing plays late in West Coast games. The replay room should be in some neutral place like Helena, MT or Las Cruces, NM instead of New York.
The history of reviewing plays that were wrongly called and confirming them anyway is long against the Astros. It's very similar to Roger Goodell's effing of the Saints after Bounty Gate.
That entire game was fucking cursed. The officiating has been horrible for both sides during both games so far. I'm not even mad or sad that the Padres lost because obviously the game wasn't up to either team. I really.. don't know what to expect in today's game.
The review calls mainly hurt the Astros but home base ump had the absolute WORST calls on strikes and balls. Pitches a whole 2-3 inches above and off the plate while pitches on the box’s line were called balls so often.
The Profar incident at the end was probably the worst of the night. Not only did the ump blow the call on the field, but then asked New York to review the hit by pitch call and they screwed it up too. Total cluster F
That's one of the things I don't understand about replay. If they can have a replay ruling of the call stands because there isn't enough evidence to over turn a call, then why can't they review plays like this? I mean, these happen so fast it's easy to get wrong.
because baseball is old timey sport and they hate changes and want to keep everything the same because its americas past time sport. fuck that. clearly they can review certain calls, i hope they make some changes this offeseason
Love your videos. You should do a video on how bad the umpiring was for the whole game. This is the same crew that said Bregman didn’t get hit by a pitch when he did in Cincinnati
If I were introducing someone to baseball, this would be the game. Two missed calls before a Machado game tying homer, Altuve foot pics, Profar’s situation, and both teams bringing the game to extras
ALL plays should be reviewable... time to stop drawing lines as to what can and cannot be reviewed. Make all plays reviewable and to add a twist - if the umpire making the call gets the call WRONG - a team should be able to switch out the umpire who made the wrong call for another umpire already on the field. (You know, since umpires feel like people go to ball games to watch them instead of the players playing the game)
That's not the first time he's been ejected for a foul ball off his foot this season 💀 Ok I watched like 3 seconds of the video so I didn't realize he mentioned it
The people at New York review center need to get fired because how can you not see that profar did not get hit he even said he didn’t get hit like how blind are those people
I know they say the percentage of calls being right has gone up in the last few years, but the amount of egregious missed calls that can't even be reviewed or sometimes are reviewed and still called wrong app review as in evident during last night's baseball game in which the Padres batter was called for a hit by pitch turned the umpire side. The ball never touched me. Astros challenged. It can clearly see the ball never touches him and still they say hit by pitch. F****** absurd.
Perfect take on this. I watched that game. Even the Padres were pissed at the umps. This is getting out of hand. We need to remove them from the equation. They're blowing too many calls. Sometimes blatantly altering the course of games. It's unacceptable.
Then Profar became the final out of the game due to a force out at second by Altuve's replacement. Profar screamed at the umps all the way back to the dugout, perhaps claiming the HBP essentially ended the game. Seriously, there should be fines and suspensions.
these umps have been making a strong case for completely electronic umping. that would save millions in umpire costs. some of them shouldnt even make minimum wage
It’s actually could fall under continued complaining which is an ejectable offense per the rules, so the umpire technically was in the right to eject him. Also if the umpire didn’t see or hear the ball come off his foot than he’s not going to say that it did. We’ve seen players say that they foul tipped a ball when they obviously didn’t. Not because they are lying but they felt something in the moment. So the umpire can not necessarily take the players word for it. I’m not trying to diss anyone I’m just trying to add context to the situation.
While I agree with you that the Ump shouldn’t call something if he didn’t see it, the standard practice for umpires when they’re not sure is to check with either the 1st or 3rd base umpire to confirm, he failed to do that for mostly all his terrible calls and even video replay on the “hit by pitch” clearly shows the ball never even grazed his sleeve and the call was upheld? There is no excuse for that from a major league umpire crew, and don’t get me started on them Icing Hader while they figured out the rules, which I fail to see how you can become a major league umpire and not know what the step off rules are for pitchers. There’s no defense for the umpires in this one, I urge you to watch the game if you didn’t see it and if you come to the same conclusion then fair enough but I seriously doubt that you would
New Rule: Clear and obvious errors will be reversed by instant replay. (If every fan watching with a decent television, let alone a high-def big screen, knows the right call, then make the right call.) It's actually FASTER to review this play and change the call than to argue about it.
This umpiring crew is the absolute worst that I have ever seen in a professional baseball game.... Man, it would be REALLY nice if the MLB would just come out and disband the umpires union. Couldn't care less how bad the optics from that would be, we all know deep down that it's for the greater good of the game of baseball. Godawful officials, like these clown umpires, SHOULD lose their jobs.
I feel like a video needs to be made about this whole game. Not fun fact: this is the same crew that ruled on Altuve's non-hit foot in the Mets game too!
You say “…with the game being tied up at one in the top of the ninth…” At the same time, the score on the bottom right of the screen says “3 to 2, bottom of the 8th”. What am I missing here? Hard to get into your story when I’m thinking the video may be from another game.
I think this is the same game that Jackson Profar told the umpire. Hey I did not get hit by a pitch and the umpires like you definitely got hit by a pitch. I think we can all agree it umpires should not have jobs.
Well, I'm going to disagree pretty much right down the line. I don't think the replay was conclusive. Taking off a shoe and sock is also not convincing. A small mark could happen at any time. I have a mark on my foot from dropping a hairdryer on it two days ago.
Manny machado was going to be thrown out to if he didn’t hit that home run. It was a good game I’m a tigers fan just wish the padres won cause I want to see them play in the playoffs
They're not held to any standard, and are never disciplined for poor performance. It's a simple matter of what you (in this case MLB) allow, will continue.
MLB umpires have way too much power. Some of them are so arrogant and ANYTHING, regardless of how innocent it is, can set them off without the possibility of punishment by the league. I can not wait until the virtual strike zone is initiated into the league. The only drawback with that is that I'm hearing each team can only dispute a questionable call 5 times per game. I've seen that many egregious calls behind the plate in just 1 freaking inning.
whats the point of grading ump performances if they don't have any repercussions when they get something like this completely wrong and then freakin eject them. I'm no astros/altuve fan but this cant keep happening every freakin day. Also why I only watch baseball through highlight videos instead of actual game broadcasts
Only evidence is the replay. Showing his foot proves nothing as circumstantial. If ump didn’t see or hear it hit Altueves foot, to him it’s just a mark that could be from anything. This is why a fast replay right to plate umpires ear would be great to overturn the ruling. The replay is the only hard evidence to prove the mark on his foot is from that hit. Without it, it’s he said she said.
Oh definitely. I'm a Stros fan but even I knew if he stepped back in the box he was taking us deep. The air just felt like that on the broadcast, but the umps basically screwed San Diego out of it by calling a HBP that barely missed his elbow
"hell nah thats too much evidence to prove I was wrong, you're outta here" LMFAO
The umpiring for this entire game was atrocious for both teams
Manny Machado and Jackson Profar would agree with you. Even Astros starter Justin Verlander couldn't believe these calls.
game ?? how about 3 past seasons? in most games
Icing Hader for five minutes before his first pitch...
The worst part is NY reviewed the replay clearly showing profar was not hit and STILL refused to overturn the call. They are affecting the very integrity of the game.

It's like the umpires were conspiring against both teams just for the fun of it
Even the called strikes were enough to make either team not be in control of who won. The reviewable plays were just the comedy special of it all
I never seen an officiating crew be so bad that u piss off both teams at the end of the game.
lol Profars HBP pissed off both the Astros and him
The review calls mainly hurt the Astros but home base ump had the absolute WORST calls on strikes and balls. Pitches a whole 2-3 inches above and off the plate while pitches on the box’s line were called balls so often.

The ump wanted to delete the evidence by ejecting it 😂

Some plays aren’t reviewable because you give up power to control outcomes. It’s a gambling thing.
My thoughts are that you shouldve told us who won
He can take off his show but not jersey smh
I bet you would love for him to take off his jersey wouldn't you?
STOP HIRING INCOMPETENT INDIVIDUALS.
Umpires were told by the MLB they need to help have a division race between the fading Dodgers and SD, so a couple of calls go SD's way. Oh well.🤷♂🤣

Hate the Astros - but LOVE Altuve!!!!!
They're not held to any standard, and are never disciplined for poor performance. It's a simple matter of what you (in this case MLB) allow, will continue.
MLB makes crooked deals with Vegas and then MLB changes the rules FOR Vegas
No question that umpires are too soft these days. What would any of them have done with Billy Martin or Leo Durocher?
Even Bobby Cox and Tommy Lasorda would argue it.😂
