That's cool they wanted to get in touch with their roots with R.R. But Bob Rock did an otherworldly Job on the Black album. So much work went into that album...and you can hear it in every single song. It's a Masterpiece
I’m not a huge fan of Rick but to be fair the documentary was more so about the writing of the album and the jams they played in order to make it with only the little bits of finalized recording being shot with Rick in the back. Though I absolutely hate what he did to the mix. They definitely should have gotten someone a little more hands on like Bob was
Cause he doesn't! All Rick ever does is say " sound like you used to " and then leaves . He will pop back in every few days to listen and make suggestions and then leaves. Greg Fidelman produced this album.
@@andysalter7192Greg is honestly a great producer. I loved what he did with Hardwired, yet Rick just completely brought him down with the useless suggestions and mixing opinions
look the 80's are gone, Cliff is gone. The first three albums were truly great. you cant recreate that period. life happens people change mind sets change. you have to listen with fresh ears to the new stuff think of every album being their first. if you like it buy it, if not don't...if you want old school then get Jason's album. its heavy and fresh sounding. I believe all these guys have earned the right to record what they want! (be it crap or not)

I hate to be negative, but I think Rick’s entire vision for “the ultimate Metallica album” was misguided, especially the make it sound like a wall of sound bit. NONE of their records ever sounded that way. I think anytime an outsider comes in and insists an artist / band “recapture” the past they’re officially taking that artist off their natural growth path.
me and my brothers together with my dad are huge metal heads, he passsed it down to us and we regulary rock out to new records together having a drink and what not. we all have diffrent preferences but we all love metal , it´s a blast ! and metallica and motörhead are like go-to´s ´round here
If there is one thing to be said about Death Magnetic, its that Rick Rubin is completely overrated! "Rick really wanted us to do this....".."Rick wanted us to bring back this....".....DM sounded like complete shit, production was bedroom level shit, mix was bedroom level (Actually you can do better in a home studio these days) and the mastering....seriously....just "Fuuuuuuck". It bottles the mind how they thought that sounded good.
Rick is a trend chaser. He’s worked with every kind if artist Metal, Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, Electronic. He just does what everyone else would do at the time. That’s why he turned everything way too high up completely ruining it. Because everyone else was doing it! He did a great job with Slayer though I can’t deny that, and I’m sure thats why they chose him. Yet I’m sure he was only great for that time, and they just expected him to do the same thing. Yet he screwed them over! I’m all for experimentation in production, but Rick is the absolute worst at it! Barely original
I disagree in that the Load albums were honestly really solid and a lot more emotional in my opinion, but yeah by the time we got to St Anger it seemed that the era had caused some permanent damage in their sound and was losing it’s steam. In my opinion St Anger was their last great album. Hate on me all you want but it’s their most punkish and angriest record, and I loved that direction their were going in (besides no guitar solos…)
"you guys suck after this record....ok..thats great..what is it you think sucks?"....I would literally ask him why they are incapable of producing/mixing a good sounding album since Garage Inc. I am dying to understand how he fails to hear that his guitar tones are garbage, drums are weak, vocals are dry..loudness wars in full effect after mastering.
Whilst Metallica are one of my all time favourite bands and no matter what they release I'm gonna check it out, I completely agree with you. For me personally, (and ironically) the best tone that James and Kirk ever achieved was the tone on Load and Reload, even though song wise I sway more towards their older stuff. Can you imagine a studio recording of Blackened with Loads tone! I think it'd be awesome! I've done a couple of Metallica covers on my channel if you'd like to check them out too! \m/
+jimithebollix I have said it for years, imagine Death Magnetic with the Load/Reload tones, drums and vocals....just a tad more saturation on the guitars and it would have Fucking crushed!!!
THE SONGS ARE GREAT ON DEATH MAGNETIC, I AGREE ABOUT THE PRODUCTION, RICK RUBEN ALSO DID SABBATHS COMEBACK RECORD 13 AND YOU CAN DEFINATLY HEAR THAT IF YOU LISTEN TO BOTH, WASENT THE TONES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, IT JUST SOUNDED THIN, I AGREE IF IT HAD THE DOUBLE TRACKED GUITARS THAT WERE SUPER THICK LIKE THE BLACK ALBUM THEN WOW, LISTEN TO THEIR 2009 MEXICO SHOW THEY DID OUTDOORS, THATS HOW IT SHOULD OF SOUNDED, ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMEONE IS GOING TO TWEEK THE SOUND AND MAKE IT THICKER LIKE SOMEONE DID WITH AJFA AND ADDED BASS, CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW RECORD, HOPE THEY DO A BIG US TOUR WHEN THE NEW ALBUM COMES OUT AND COME BACK TO PHILLY SOON
Stop this "live sound" feeling stuff! Metallica's albums sounded great when they cared a lot about details. Think about AJFA or Black Album, or even the very underrated Load. Death Magnetic sounds bad, period. Forced thrash stuff, very poor production, no rage, no groove, just a bunch of riffs putted together. C'mon guys...stop this shit, you're fuckin METALLICA! Give us a damn great album!
+7orqu3 death magnetic is better than load/reload? They're way too different to compare them. Load is more bluesy and less palm muting... The production of load is to me far better than death magnetic. Then again the day that never comes is one of my favourite songs so...
+PaleBlueDot bunch of riffs put together? yup..just like justice. DM is a great record. cyanide, nightmare, end of the line, day that never comes, its nice.
Metallica could play more Death magnetic's songs at the concerts. This album is amazing and deserves more atention.
i think he means play them more often which i agree with
Eric Henrique Caetano de Souza attention? Testament and overkill play better guitars drums and play fast they don’t get the attention they deserve

The best album they've made un my opinion. Like it was meant to be. Pure magic
Video starts:
Lars: Death Magnetic.
*Sounds a St. Anger song as background music
Whatever they do, whatever they say, I appreciate.
Wherever they may roam!
I can't believe 10 years has gone by. Today, I just happened to be wearing my ratty, faded Death Magnetic Concert Tour T-shirt.
No idea why rick rubin is mentioned so much. We can watch the making of this album. Rick rubin appears twice
Totally! Hahahaha

This is one of my favorite Metallica albums.
Promote Death Magnetic by playing St Anger
Doesn't make sense
how is there not one videoclip of rick rubin working w them?

I wonder if James were around 30 years old now if he'd have earlobe plugs like the Asian dude in Trivium. What do you guys think?
he is Matt Heafy and he is awesome, dont call him an asian guy everyone is equal you racist fuck
