Without a doubt, AoC is at the stage where the systems require testing under full load and this is clearly, as stated, the purpose of A2 However, I think it is also clear that one tertiary purpose of A2 is to keep the long time supporters of the game, the core community who have followed and supported the game for many years, engaged. This group is the future audience for the game in the long term. I don't think that Intrepid is particularly concerned with retaining the 10's of thousands of recent pre-order buyers throughout the early testing phases, and, in fact, may be expecting and planning for a very high attrition rate amongst the FOMO crowd. Maintaining servers for 20K hardcore testers will be a lot more efficient, manageable, and effective, especially in terms of costs, than doing so for 200K uninformed players who are looking for a game experience. Those non-dedicated testers who wander away will, by and large, return when something interesting is added, regardless of their negative impressions. That's what I have seen over the years with other games and I think that holds true for AoC.
Very nice Video! i know alpha 2 is just a test but it will show if the Core Game design with Nods and Duel Specs past level 25. The Copium level is HIGH. Your right, Alpha 2 gona be a big billboard for the future of the game.
It is already +7 years and most of the kickstart roadmap contents are not applied and tested yet... With this speed, we probably see it within 2028 or more lol :D
2nd alpha in 7 years so we should see a working beta in another 3 or so years then 2 to 3 years in beta so 5 to 7 years more but then in a year at the speed unreal is updating they will have to port it over to newest unreal so might get it in 10 or so years
We can watch the systems all day long, bit just need to get in there and play and test it. The first week of A2 will be a complete sh*t show. Everyone will be trying to break stuff and push no doubt the corruption system to its max. I'M looking forward to it for sure. Finally time to test what we've waited for for so long.
I have a bad feeling aoc will be a forever alpha game. Their going to have a fully functioning cash shop which whales will gobble up. Once the money slows, they will open the alpha to the public. I don't think its a scam, they'll still develope the game, but to them, why offically release the game if youre making money.
So you telling me .. i am gonna pay money to play a Alpha version of a game for 1 -3 years... to be their " Alpha tester" to then pay again... And they already starting to down play the content they gonna have in that Alpha ?
Its pretty much a way to support the project and be a part of the testing periods. Intrepid is working alone, which means they dont have any publishers financing them or third party companies alongside the project. Steven already invested around 45million of his own pocket and that money is not infinite, its our own choice to be a part of it or just wait untill release. Also, as an Alpha tester, you probbably have acces to all the testing periods, including betas, as well as skins, embers (to buy cosmetics), and a minimum of 6month suscription once the game releases. So imo, its a lot of money but it is justified in this specific case.

yes but no. If you pay them to let you alpha test you also get a couple of months worth of subscription to the game once it launches, and a couple of other bonuses. But you wont have to pay again before that
I signed up for the game back in 2017. I was 49 at the time. I'm now 57. I hope the game is worth the wait.

All the kickstart roadmap is not tested yet because A2 hasnt started yet. Hint Q3 2024

Nah, remember leveling is supposed to be long. I suspect the 1st month will be people trying to get to level cap(25 I think for alpha 2)
