Companion Dog test with traffic safety part BH-VT
All dog owners who provide evidence that they have successfully passed the written examination if required by the regulations of the national organizations or those who have proof of a locally issued certificate. Dogs of all breeds and sizes are accepted. The minimum age of the dog is determined by the National Organization LAO, but may not be less than twelve months.
Dogs which do not reach the required 70% of the points in Part A ("Obedience") are not taken for examination in Part B ("Traffic Portion") The test was passed if 70% of the points to be reached in Part A and all exercises of part B were considered sufficient by the performance judge. It is up to the judge (LR), at the request of the hosting club, to place the participants at the awards’ ceremony. The BH-VT is a prerequisite for entry into all further examinations. Each Examination result must be entered in the official trial paperwork and the scorebook regardless of the outcome of the examination.
Examination description: Companion Dog test with traffic safety part BH-VT
The BH / VT test does not check the gun sureness of the dog.
Exercise requirements similar to the exercises described in the general part
Heeling on leash
Heeling off leash
Down under Distraction
Examination in traffic General Information
15 Points 15 Points
10 Points 10 Points 10 Points
Encounter with group of persons
At the order of the judge, the dog handler, with his dog, walks on the sidewalk. The performance judge follows the team at a reasonable distance. The dog is to follow on the dog handler's left side on a loosely hanging leash - with the shoulder at the knee height of the dog handler. The dog has to be indifferent to the pedestrian and driving traffic. On his way, the dog handler is stopped by a passing stranger. The dog has shown itself neutral and unimpressed. The dog handler and the dog continue through a relaxed group of at least 6 persons, in which a person responds to the dog handler and greets them with a hand shake. The dog has to sit or lie beside the dog handler and has to keep quiet during the short conversation.
Encounter with Bicyclists
The dog is walking along a path with his dog handler and is overtaken by a bicyclist from behind who rings a bell. After a good distance, the cyclist turns to meet dog handler and dog. There will be another bell ring. The passing has to be done in such a way that the dog is between the dog handler and the bicyclist passing by. The dog has to see the bicyclists.
Encounter with Cars
The dog handler walks past several cars with his dog. One of the vehicles is started. In another car, a door is shut. While the dog handler and the dog go on, a car stops next to them. The window is rolled down and the dog handler is asked for information. The dog has to sit or lie down by the dog handler's instructions. The dog has to be quiet and unimpressed with cars and all traffic noises.
Encounter with joggers or inline skaters

Very helpful again! I did the BH last year and watched this video many times the weeks before, and now am trialing with my second dog, and watching it again. Very clear and easy to visualize the routine this way. My go-to for trial prep.
Thank you so much this is incredibly helpful I was having a hard time visualising patterns/positions just from sheets of paper so I absolutely love that you show the exact pattern with an overlaid image! My doberman bitch and I are looking to do our BH in the spring.

Мне понравилось видео. Свою команду проведу сначала по БХ. BH.
This is a GREAT video! I am super visual so this is so helpful. Is this still the current routine? I'm working with a puppy and hope to do the BH eventually.

What’s the difference between paces and steps?
How do you do the about turn and get the dog to spin like that. Mine always tries to cross past me.

Hi, can a West German showline German Shepherd dog do protection work & Obedience work like working lines??
Wonderful video.. Helped me a lot with my girls BH this weekend. Sooo... wondering when you will get the 1,2 and 3 loaded?
hi the tracking one will be up later today or tomorrow then hopefully the protection and ob ones next week
Thank you very much. Is there a video for the new IPG 1-2-3 also to find? Would appreciate it pretty much. Have 3 dogs in training and want to pass the BH, IPG1, IPG2 and IPG3 in 2019.
hi yes I am still making the other videos they should all be up in the next coupe of weeks
Awesome, thank you. 👍
Hi TheDoberNut, are these videos somewhere to find?
Is this the entire BH routine? I thought it also involves encounters with bikes and cars
May i ask- if we should face group while removing leash?
as far as I'm aware I havent seen anything in the rules about it
Is the recall from down a front finish or can it be a heel finish?
And are points deducted for doing an out of motion sit VS in motion?
no the dog has to come to the front finish then 3 seconds pause then command to come to heel. also there is no point difference doing out of motion or in motion
@@TheDoberNut Thanks! I genuinely didn’t expect anyone to reply!
WHy isn't the finish after recall like the AKC where heel means the dog must go behind you to your left side?
There are different ways to execute a finish, you could go behind the back, like my dog, or do a flip turn it depends on the handler and dog.
@@alysewilliams3344 there are J turns, Flip turns, Pop Turns, Spin rearward turns---most competitors use the go around as it's safer for points and that is where I was going with the original question
Anda boleh memilih untuk salah satu daripada hadiah di atas
Where in the rules does it say that you no longer has to go back to the group after you take the leash off?
Walking through a group of people that are moving is to be shown in the on leash heeling (IGP-V, IGP-ZTP, BH/VT, IBGH-1 and IBGH-2) and in heeling of leash (IGP 1-3, IBGH-2 und IBGH-3). The dog handler must circle a person to the right and circle a second person to the left (e.g. in the form of an 8) and stop at least once in the group with the dog performing an automatic sit near a person. The performance judge (LR) is allowed to request a repeat exercise. At the order of the performance judge (LR), the dog handler (HF) leaves the group with his/her dog and takes the final basic position. The dog's praise is only allowed in the final basic position after leaving the group.
@@TheDoberNut Thanks :) and many thanks for an informative video
USCA website FAQ about the new rules states, "In the BH the dog must be facing the group when removing the leash between the onlead and off lead heeling" (www.germanshepherddog.com/resources), but then in the new rule book, it doesn't clarify that point, it states, "at the instruction of the judge the handler leaves the group and assumes the basic position"... and, "the free heeling, (off leash), begins after leaving the group in the on leash heeling and taking up basic position facing down field". I'm guessing the facing the group when removing the leash does not apply, but if someone knows otherwise please let me know... clear as mud :)
Muss man nicht mehr durch die Gruppe, wenn der Hund abgeleint ist??
no there is no longer any off leash heeling in the group
This is not entirely correct, there is a group routine off leash. New FCI rules coming out in January
no there isn't
😂
Only circus for me
