Thoughts on this year's Anime Magic [Aug 19 2023] :
As a one day attendee POV, it was better than last year and probably a bit more worth the price tag for what you got face value, but I would not call it a budget friendly con by any means. Still- there's things they can improve on, such as organization, behind the scenes planning, communication, and providing bigger banner signs or guides around the place to help define where everything was and help make things feel more welcoming and participatory rather than feeling like you've stumbled upon a business meeting you were not invited to. Game rooms and console rooms could have been switched for more circulation as arcades were more popular, but I appreciated the racing arcades that are not often seen in con gaming rooms. The person who gave me my badge at registration was monumental in helping layout where everything was as maps were scarce. The badge decorating table was a cute addition. The vibe of the volunteers and attendees were all generally considerate and chill, and we never had an issue with bottlenecks in the artist alley, allowing us to pause anywhere to have leisure conversations with sellers and cosplayers without getting trampled or shooed off. We highly appreciated the artist alley being pushed to the forefront and making up about 70% of the sales floor over dealers, whereas most cons would have them placed deeper into the hall with less room. Overall I'd say I'd likely return to Anime Magic and I'm looking out for their future refinement.
