I have this D9L single fan in the bedroom with a 7600x. Temps are higher than my U9S with dual fan on the same cpu in a different media pc in the family room. Planning on taking the U9S Noctua fans and doing a triple setup like this on the D9L. I’ll buy some Silent wing 2 92mm fans for the U9S. I already run three 140mm Noctua fans on my D15. I also bought basically a D9L clone the Thermalright Silver Soul 110 for my shop pc and ran dual 92mm in push / pull and a 80mm push on the front. Pics are posted on my review of it on a very large reseller site. Very nice cooler and I would bet on par with the D9L. Mounting it was just like Noctua.
Thank you! I'm putting together a Raptor lake 13900K. I have the Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black dual tower and just got a 3rd fan, but NOW I have to wait forever for the extra clips! I LOVE your wiring!
Careful when using a pull fan without a slight gap. There is increased noise due to the pull side of the fan being too close to the heat sink. If you compare both sides of almost any case fan you will see the motor side fan blades is deeper inside the fan frame giving just enough gap to not create extra noise from being direct up against a heat sink surface. The pull side is too close and when put up against a heat sink there will be added noise. Noctua actually provides fan corner extended bumpers to move the pull fan away from the heat sink. I made a very basic video showing these thicker fan bumpers. I just ran triple fans on the similar Thermalright Silver Soul 110. I used small felt pads on the pull fan to gap it to reduce noise associated with pull fans being to close to an object. Also if only running two fans always avoid both on pull unless you gap both. If you do push / pull then you only need to gap the single pull fan. You won’t need to lower rpm as bad in pull configs to get rid of the pull fan noise. Your noise normalized testing would have shown even better results with pull fan gaps.
I just noticed this Noctua note about push/pull configs on the U14S. I already knew about these gaps just never saw them talk about it. “Dual Fan Ready For users who want to achieve even better performance by adding a second, optional NF-A15 fan to create a push/pull setup, the NH-U14S includes fan clips and an extra set of custom-designed anti-vibration pads that allow to off-set the rear fan by 5mm to improve acoustics in dual-fan mode.”
What about a pull-pull with each fan on the exterior of the dual tower or a push-push with the same fan locations? The results would be very interesting to me. Thank you!
So what were the Temps on gaming tho ?? I have that cooler boxed away in my closet lol I just don't want to swap it from my artic liquid freezer 2 for higher higher Temps. I know they won't be no where near my 56- 58C that my freezer 2 gives. But if it holds a nice mid 60's I'll definitely do it because I really do like the look of this cooler.
@@PokerFaZe so I gave it a shot last night lol. I took down my liquid freezer 2 and put on my NH D9L. So my 3700x is OC to 4.4 @1.280V just to let you know. I was playing two games of mine that I know makes my CPU and the Temps were for most of the time at 63-66C. Thee only thing I didn't like was at times when the matches I played ended and the game would take me to a new match, Temps would spike hard and fast to 74C but while gaming it did stay at 63-66C I was actually impressed and I do feel that if noctua would refresh this cooler to be just a bit taller and add maybe 4 to 6 air fins while still keeping the 92MM fan it would do amazing honestly. As of now I did go back to my D15 and I'm gonna leave it on for a while because it is my favorite cooler I have. I really wish noctua would refresh the 9DL tho, that little thing has some serious performance
Did you use a different thermal paste? The tube it comes with is terrible. I lifted my cooler immediately after applying and I was very generous with my application and there were spots that looked bare like pulling a heatsink off a 6 year old cpu. It could be the paste. I am running the same cooler with Arctic Silver 5 paste and run at 68c at most.
I also wonder why Noctua haven't revised this cooler to extend the fins since this isn't exactly 110mm in height when you factor in the fan as they claim it to be. This cooler has a design flaw wherein the screws prevent you placing the middle fan so that it clears the 110mm spec when you actually mount it. You're forced to have it offset a bit to the top so it's actually almost the same height as a NH-U9S (probably 115-120 mm).
Hi, thank you for a great video. I always wondered if 3 fans are better than 2 by much. So it was nice to see 2C difference with your test bench. But how did you get the metal clip for the third fan?
Hi there! I have a deal where someone is selling Noctua nh-d9l with 2 fans for 45 usd. I can get the cooler master hyper 212 black edition at the same price. Which one should I go for? Edit: I'll be using the cooler for Ryzen 5 3600
I'm using a 3700x, so I think you can't go wrong with any. But the D9L alone is 55 bucks on Amazon, so 45 for the D9L + an extra fan is definitely a steal
Here is a quick tip separate the two towers with a thin piece of plastic and run the fans opposing each other, you will improve by as much as 10°C no joke👍🏻

Thanks for the PURE WINGS 2 economical suggestion.
Now, I have it installed in my new gamer Chinese CPU.

I put it in the Cougar QBX, got 75C while playing RDR2. You can check in my latest video.

great content. Keep it coming :)
Where did you find extra clips? I would like to add another fan but I don’t have more clips. Help me please.
You need to email Noctua and they will send one for free. Please check my description
Great vid again, youtube didn't give notification of your videos all these months :(
What have you done to make RUclips blacklist your notification :))
Just bought this I think it looks super different with other coolers
You should email Noctua for some clips, they are free :)
loves this kind of video

I am using the Arctic MX-4, I used all the NT-H1 paste that came with the cooler months ago :)
@@PokerFaZe Ah ok. Loved the video btw keep it up!
Thank you
I love those push-to-the-limit videos like this.
Thats the 2nd channel from Ali?
This is AliExpress 😂
I would use a 3000 RPM in the center and set a fan curve.

Agree, and even with the fan mounted like that, 1/5 of the fan diameter is unused while the entire fin stack is still fully cooled
D9L is 3u Server ready but only with 1 fan.
So I think it's time for a non-server D9L 🥲

I am pretty sure you can email noctua for a free one

I differ on the use of the word sexy. 😂
i have it xD with 3 fans xD
Where did you find an extra clip? I’m trying to find one to put a third fan but I can’t
