    Way to go Noctua the D9 L cut my idol temp if half on my 4790 k. From 65 to 35 and under a stress test it never touched 70. I'm amazed. I might overclock this sucker. Thanks Noctua!

    I just bought one of these for my "new" i7 2600K build in my Powermac G5 case. first official cooling tower I have used since I got rid of my old Q6600 with a tower heat sink on it. and WOW! I love how easy it is to mount compared to the tuniq tower on lga775.

    One thing about the U9S is that you really need to buy a second fan and run it in push-pull configuration to get the best cooling result.
    In my own case I ran it with just the one fan on my mini-ITX rig with an AMD 7870K APU and under load the cooler was struggling a bit with just the one fan. The temperatures improved markedly when I added the second fan.

      +Michael Nager Agreed. I ran mine with just one fan on my intel i7 4790K running at 4.5ghz and one fan wasn't quite enough. Fantastic little cooler.

    Bought both of these used for $20-25 ea. About ready to take my two Noctua fans off the U9S and triple up on the D9L. I have some silent wings 2 fans showing up for the U9S tomorrow. Both are cooling 7600x in Silverstone GL09 cases.

    12:03 you say 100% RAM compatability, but the ram sticks are placed in the 2nd and 4th slot. I'm pretty sure the first slot ends up being blocked. Am I wrong? I opened it up in full screen and it really doesn't look like a stick could fit in the first slot at all.

      I have an mATX board with the u9s in push pull (I bought a second fan) and the cooler barely clears the graphics card. That said, my i7 8700 ran full throttle all cores for 2 hours and didn't top 82° C.

    Great review. I'm thinking about getting the U9S into a 4U case. I was recommended for C14S instead from
    Noctua, however after watching your video I'm leaning towards the U9S again because I agree with the airflow being better than top down coolers.

    Thermalright Silver Soul 110 is basically a copy of the D9L. I own both and the TSS 110 mounts exactly the same as the
    D9L. And it comes in black or white. I have push/pull 92mm on one tower and 80mm push on the other. Handles my OC 5600x way better than the prism it replaced. By at least 6c.

    awesome , about time a manufacturer pay attention to mini gaming system if we are building boards and cases why not the cooler, I know some folks will say go water cooling I suffer a big lost with water cooling and will never go that way again
    I do a lot of small case build and this will be just right ,this revue caught me off guard just because I thought this was another version of the cooler world AWESOME REVUE I would love to see a follow-up on mini cases that will fit well with small coolers and the top 5

      Yes is possible. Just need 1 extra set of clips, the fan and the space. Usually an extra fan will gain you 1c-2c tops. I run three 140mm Noctua fans on my D15.

    is the fan cable sleeve on those fans sticky at all? I bought a noctua L9i hoping to have the same quality as these heatsinks you showed, but 1st the fan cable sleeve was sticky. Could it be heat damaged? Also the finish on the heatsink and cpu contact point had a bunch of circular machining marks that i could see and feel with my fingers. It was not a mirror sparkling finish like your D9L and U9S. there were also some machining marks on the mounting brackets. the heatsink did not perform well (86C max temps on a stock clocked i7 6700K). Are these considered defects? because I want to return it. Also the box did not have any sort of manufacturer's seal to guarantee no one has opened/used it before.

    • @bradturner6992
      @bradturner6992 8 лет назад

      I'd probably return that if you havent already. sounds very odd all things considered, but most likely just a poorly handled/packaged product.

    Did you just say that the Asus Sabertooth was a server board that was brought over to the mainstream?

    • @gng13
      @gng13 9 лет назад

      +JammerAUS That is what the series was initially designed for some years ago, and it still undergoes ASUS' server grade testing rather than the less stringent consumer testing.

    • @OJHoopslife
      @OJHoopslife 9 лет назад

      Agree re the testing but the board started off as a consumer board. Never as a server board.

      I know you made this comment years ago, but you can actually prolong your cpu life with overclocking as crazy at it may sound haha. I have a 4790k, and running the stock 4ghz with everything in the bios set to auto (including turbo boost) it runs with a crazy voltage I don't remember the number offhand but it was like 1.35v I overclocked it to 4.4ghz running at 1.2v and it runs faster and cooler at the same time. I don't even have a cooler as beefy as this one, I have a Raijintek Aidos (roughly equal to a 212 evo)

    @HiTechLegion -- If you decide to do newer video with these Noctua NH coolers you could add the Alseye ST90/DR90 cooler to this comparison.
    This cooler is a 92mm dual tower similar setup to the Noctua NH-D9L.
