    Thank you for this video. We don't start from the knees very often, but sometimes we do when the mats are packed and don't have the space to go full takedowns. I really appreciate the little details you convey.

    The "from the knees" is a big problem. No fight starts that way, unfortunately most people start this way b/c of space concerns....it's a bad aspect of BJJ.

    I don't have anyone start from the knees, even in our fundamentals classes. Instead we just do 3 & 3 from guard, or half guard, or put the higher belt in mount or side body etc. Seen too many people, even after being explained etiquette, just pull someone over their knees and get tweaked.

    Thank you dude. Now I can see why my arm drags are so slopy and my Knee tap doesn't work. Armdrags are like karate hikite (pulling the hand back in the hip as hard as you can) while you drive the attacking hand, in this case the sleeve/wrist hand. And knee taps looks a lot easier if you bend your elbows in. Greetings from Brazil.

      @@StillRolling I don't know if it only happens in local clubs around here(in a 70 miles radius I mean). But BJJ teachers are not into teaching those details, they think more you roll, the better you get. Sure this is the truth in some cases, but different people learn in different ways

    • @StillRolling
      @StillRolling  3 года назад

      I am a huge believer in efficiency. Jiu-Jitsu is designed to not expend a lot of energy, especially against bigger opponents. If you don't know the details it is hard to be efficient therefore causing you to work harder with less results. Rolling is fun but it's just a test run for the techniques you have learned👍

    I always have my guys start one sitting and one kneeling. There is absolutely no point to midget wrestling. It doesn't translate to real takedowns and wastes time and energy. If I see two white belts midget wrestling I immediately break it up and throw them with some of my blue/purple belts.

  • @uros2321
    @uros2321 Год назад

    Honestly I do not see any benefit of starting on the knees. It just makes you alienated to wrestling and judo which you will need in competition and in self defense. It also makes bjj a lot more unrealistic and keeps you from progressing.

    • @stephenhudec3984

      The place I train is small u throw 12-15 people in there and it’s tight rolling let alone trying to stand up and wrestle someone. Also it’s not as intimidating to a new guy that isn’t use to going from standing to getting put down. I see your point just point. And totally agree

  • @glxblt-sd1ze
    @glxblt-sd1ze 2 года назад

    Knee wrestling is totally useless in bjj training, if you want to wrestle do it standing ; if you don 't, pull guard or try to pass depending of what training partner did
