dang red headed country thor, i needed this. thank you sir
I’m a 2.5 month white belt 🤣. I’ve been trying to find ways to start rolls other than just wait for an attack and try to defend. This is super helpful!
Are you a black belt yet
@@holywoof6419 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@alexgonzalezMIbetter question, are you blue by now?
@@sirb4855 Yes I’ve been a blue belt since last April
@@alexgonzalezMIhow many stripe blue belt are you now?
Thank you for this video. We don't start from the knees very often, but sometimes we do when the mats are packed and don't have the space to go full takedowns. I really appreciate the little details you convey.
The "from the knees" is a big problem. No fight starts that way, unfortunately most people start this way b/c of space concerns....it's a bad aspect of BJJ.
Training BJJ thinking it mimics fights is a bad aspect of BJJ.
Most people start this way, because most injuries happen while starting from your feet.
@@johnthree1611you should drill takedowns as a white belt and you should start standing as a blue belt.
This is what I needed bro thanks
Happy to help
I loved the replays! Good stuff as usual!
Damn! You are a magician and a great teacher. Simple yet powerful condos and techniques that are practical. Got a new sub here instantly.
Thank you for the feedback🤙
Thank you for the great tips!
Great video, coach! Looking forward to watching more.
Thank you so so much for posting this video. I was always unsure what to do starting from the knees. I would always pull guard. This was very detailed and informative! Post more of these types of videos please!
Yo you went balls in with this video. Super impressive and your gonna help a-lot of people.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
That knee pick was great. I used it twice last night. Thanks a lot.
I definetly found some answers to my questions. Thank you very much!
Awesome instruction! Thanks!
It's awesome when I stumble onto a great video by someone so close to home. Hello from Ooltewah!
Haha awesome! Yeah we are right down the highway in Cleveland. Stop in anytime🤙
Great stuff! Thank you.
Got yourself another subscriber. I appreciate you. Thank you ❤
Thanks, amigo. I started learning ground fighting. Much appreciated.
Exactly what I was looking for.
Great video. Thank you 🤜🏼🙏🏼
Great stuff man
Great ideas for when starting on the knees. I don't usually start on my knees if my opponent does, but some of the newer guys do and these are some thing I can try out and show them. Thanks!
Excellent video Thankyou
Just what I was looking for. OSS!!!
Im a noob white belt and been looking for more effective ways when starting at knees, ill be trying some of these on Monday, thank you.
Thank u
Thank you!
You explain and break down the skills really well ..
Thank you ..
Great video
Great stuff 💪
I don't have anyone start from the knees, even in our fundamentals classes. Instead we just do 3 & 3 from guard, or half guard, or put the higher belt in mount or side body etc. Seen too many people, even after being explained etiquette, just pull someone over their knees and get tweaked.
Very helpful, thanks for the upload. Subscribing now!
so good...
I need to watch more of this than flytraps and shaolin sweeps. Thanks
good stuff, thanks
First time back on the mat after nearly a year off and got absolutely pummelled starting from the knees in Gi. Wish I’d watched this first! Fair to say I’ll be studying this before my next class, thanks
Relatable 😂
All good stuff, great explination of why too. Thanks.
Sweet vid
At my club, there's a lot high school type groups of people, who just talk to their own group, and kind of exclude new white belts.
Just starting my bjj journey next week so will defo be studying up so I don't get destroyed quickly. Great vid and tips. Thanks.
How is it going?
You'll get destroyed for many many years in jiujitsu.
peace . good stuff bro.
Muito bom
Great video! This has helped me out a lot. Question, what brand GI is Breck wearing?
Thats a Bamboo inverted panda from Inverted Gear🤙
@@StillRolling thank you! OSS!
Thank you dude. Now I can see why my arm drags are so slopy and my Knee tap doesn't work. Armdrags are like karate hikite (pulling the hand back in the hip as hard as you can) while you drive the attacking hand, in this case the sleeve/wrist hand. And knee taps looks a lot easier if you bend your elbows in. Greetings from Brazil.
Happy to help🤙These details can make these techniques much easier to execute
@@StillRolling I don't know if it only happens in local clubs around here(in a 70 miles radius I mean). But BJJ teachers are not into teaching those details, they think more you roll, the better you get. Sure this is the truth in some cases, but different people learn in different ways
I am a huge believer in efficiency. Jiu-Jitsu is designed to not expend a lot of energy, especially against bigger opponents. If you don't know the details it is hard to be efficient therefore causing you to work harder with less results. Rolling is fun but it's just a test run for the techniques you have learned👍
@@StillRolling The most fun part is that I'm big guy myself (6'1") and around 85kg(Sorry, but I don't know my mass in imperial system, only my height) and I strugle like hell due the lack of those details.
what is that GI?

Never underestimate the check-neck gingers.
They're the furians of the human race.
I hate starting from the knees and that’s all we do
That is unfortunate as takedowns are vital for Jiu-Jitsu
@@StillRolling LOL! Went on a no gi Friday & my blue belt opponent told me to go for a takedown on him.
After 5 months I didn’t know any. He had to show me one.
On my last month we started to learn some. I got body slammed & bruised a rib. Out for 2 weeks but not before I forked over $1800 for a year membership.
Then COVID-1984. They just reopened last week. I had to roll with a mask on after getting tested and showing them I’m all clear.
Shit sucks rn. Makes me not want to go.
That gi is nice...anyone id it?

@@StillRolling thanks! Not that it looks like us guys in the UK are back rolling anytime soon 🙄
Tips on starting from the knees: don't.

Hope you find it useful 🤙
I always have my guys start one sitting and one kneeling. There is absolutely no point to midget wrestling. It doesn't translate to real takedowns and wastes time and energy. If I see two white belts midget wrestling I immediately break it up and throw them with some of my blue/purple belts.
Midget wrestling, lmfao! So true.
Honestly I do not see any benefit of starting on the knees. It just makes you alienated to wrestling and judo which you will need in competition and in self defense. It also makes bjj a lot more unrealistic and keeps you from progressing.
The place I train is small u throw 12-15 people in there and it’s tight rolling let alone trying to stand up and wrestle someone. Also it’s not as intimidating to a new guy that isn’t use to going from standing to getting put down. I see your point just point. And totally agree
Knee wrestling is totally useless in bjj training, if you want to wrestle do it standing ; if you don 't, pull guard or try to pass depending of what training partner did
Thank you!
