A lot of her performances are songs from musicals (and she performs them beautifully), but one of my favorite songs of hers that isn't from a musical is a duet called "We Could Be In Love" with Brad Kane. (He was the singing voice of Aladdin and Lea was the singing voice of Jasmine in the original Disney film. I think they recorded the duet right after they recorded their parts in Aladdin) Lea (pronounced LAY-ah) Salonga is a singer/actress from the Philippines. She was born in 1971 (she is 52 now). Between ages 7-17 Lea worked professionally in the Philippines doing theater, albums, concerts, film and TV. She was in her first year of college at age 17 as a biology major when she auditioned for and was cast as the lead character of Kim in the musical MISS SAIGON. Lea premiered the musical in London at age 18, won the Olivier award at 19, opened the show on Broadway at 20 and won every major theater award in the USA. Lea is the singing voice for *two* Disney princesses: Jasmine ("A Whole New World") and Mulan ("Reflection"). Lea has been working consistently now for over 40 years.The performance you watched here is from the 10th anniversary concert of the musical LES MISERABLES. Lea was the first Asian/non-Caucasian woman to play the role of Eponine (the part she sings here) on Broadway in 1993 and then she was asked to be part of the LES MISERABLES 10th Anniversary Dream Cast concert in 1995 - the only non-Caucasian person to have a major role.
