I am now 72 years old (yikes) but I know exactly what you are going through as I lost my mam when I was 33 and she had just turned 57. Much too young. She is always with me, as yours will be with you. I don't always comment or 'like' as I watch you on my tv and don't always connect my phone, but I love every video. Your Christmas mantle is adorable and it goes so well with your new wallpaper. You are a wonderful young lady, so confident and independent. I'm sure your mam was so proud.

When my departed loved ones are missing from important events is when they give me their greatest Christmas gifts; the memories we had together. Sing her favorite songs, remember the laughs and recall the smells and tastes you enjoyed on Christmas with her.
I love seeing your lovely little cottage far more than the huge mansions. The castles are nice because of the history, but to be able to relax without nightmares about paying the heating bill, and looking at the handiwork of your own hands is a wonderful gift.❤❤

There's nothing wrong with having a simple Christmas. No apologies needed. I lost my dad this year, and our Christmas is difficult as well. Slow, simple, and kind is gentle on you and most times needed. The glow of a candle and fireplace is oftentimes better than bright bling. This was a sweet video even if it didn't turn out how you planned. I hope your tree comes soon.
Agree on that large glass house. It is crying out to be restored inside and out. Such a glorious building! Your lights look lovely and bring some light to these dark days of winter. A bonus that you got to clean up around the pots 😂. Would love a ramble around that gorgeous garden (any garden for that matter). Wherever I travel, I tour gardens. Sometimes people are working in their home gardens and I stop and chat and get a tour. Gardeners are friendly folk. 😍. PS. I adore that wallpaper over your mantle. This year’s Christmas videos are just as wonderful if not more, than last year’s. We are overloaded with the “doing” of the season and you have slowed down to find the peace of the season, which is what most of us are looking for and your videos have reminded me to slow down, simplify and enjoy what is important. I lost my mother just before Christmas three years ago. We try our best, but Christmas is never the same again. But there is something comforting and that is that it gets easier from time to time.

Holidays without loved ones is certainly difficult. We all face it one time or another. The lights are so cheery, I’m glad you put them up.
I love the way your mind works. Don’t you worry, if you win the lottery you’ll have all those details worked out. Love this kind of vlog Catherine. When you showed the Victorian greenhouse it reminded me of the gardens at Kylemore Abbey! Have you ever been there? It would a beautiful garden tour for your vlog. Also, I meant to add that when our daughter passed away several years ago, we bought a very small tree and decorated with her ornaments and pink lights because pink was her color. We put it up every Christmas and it helps us feel her with us. It’s healing to bring our loved ones into our holidays (when you feel up to it) ❤️😘🙏🎄
When my granddaughter was a preschooler she loved going to the pet store to see all the animals.
I do the same thing when I watch period films or tour a historical home. I’m calculating the costs in my head!

I am the worst in my neighbourhood. I drive my neighbours crazy because we put ours up in the fall and turn them on as soon as Remembrance Day is finished. I may well keep them on until Valentines, depending on how I feel. Our dark cold Canadian winters need all the cheer we can give them! One chap in particular just groans when he sees them, ha. Now you have me thinking maybe I need to add icicle lights to my coloured strings...
We've had snow this week, so I can finally stop nagging myself to go out and rake YET AGAIN! We have SO MANY leaves and they have been never ending. Now it's time to shovel for a change, lol, but I love the look of the snow ❄

Was that a topiary in the shape of a turkey? Made me smile! Such lovely gardens, even in winter. When I last visited Ireland, we rented a car and drove from Dublin to the Powerscourt estate and gardens before heading to Glendalough. Ireland has such beautiful gardens and scenic drives!
Apparently it's better for dahlias to have a first frost before cutting down and either digging up or mulching. Look after yourself, first Christmas without mam is always hard. Your fur babies will bring you much comfort. ❤️

I was given this advice and now I pass it on. Write a letter to your loved one and tell them everything you would tell them if they were alive. I was surprised how much better I felt. I put the letter in my nightstand next to my bed and read it if I am ever in the mood.

This is what we did last weekend- Raking leaves🙄. Thank God, my children helped me.🙏 Now everything ist clean and decorated too.

So we have started Wednesday biscuit club. My new hobby. I’m shattered after an hour .

Dear sweet lady, this video made my day! Is it possible that you and I are sisters from different misters forty something years apart? 🤭 When I saw that walled Victorian garden my heart melted. That gate…Oh my word! The Secret Garden…it DOES exist! The glass house, the home tour, the random “let me overthink this”, I understand completely. Here in western North Carolina, USA, we have a gorgeous estate that, because of expensive upkeep like you talked about, was opened up to the public. (It ain’t cheap) George Vanderbilt had it built and the grounds were designed by the same gentleman that designed Central Park in NY. I had a season pass one year and visited while they were planting millions of tulips and daffodils. Catherine, I wanted to dig with those gardeners so bad. The gardens are where I visit mostly. This house has an outside conservatory…to die for!!! I hope you can cross the proverbial pond someday and visit! They even made a Hallmark Christmas movie last year there! I am a fabric hoarder and would have went broke buying all the lovely fabrics you saw. Your cushions will be a wonderful addition to your living room. Can I be honest with you? I think your Christmas decor is prettier this year than last. You’re so talented to be able to pull off any look! It warms my heart the way you love your little home.💕 🏡🙌🏻🫶🏻 Thank you!☺️

My mom passed away January 1st and then my dad 6 months later. It's tough, but we just need to be kind to ourselves and pace ourselves. I too, am not too fussy about the trimmings of the season. Keep well. I left you a funny message earlier.❤

Catherine I forgot to mention that we have a lovely park here in Lake Wales Florida called Bok Tower and Gardens. Although it doesn’t get very cold here in winter we ware coats and hats for walks in the gardens. I am a member of the park and would like to show you around here.
Fond memories of roller skates - 1st pair you put over your shoes - & adjusted them . They used to make a noise when skating😂Then so proud to have my own roller boots - Christmas 40 yrs ago 😂 really flash & I loved them so many good times/roller disco just enjoying being young etc.

Your walks and vlogs are so calming. Its a wonderful change of pace when so many peo;e are just basically exploding with over the top expensive decor and silly things they use for maybe a month. This Christmas my girls and I decided to not do material gifts. Instead we are doing a family event in the Christmas themed park. Just time to look at lights maybe get a funnel cake and coco and just relax. I hope you all have a blessed and peaceful Christmas. Lighting a candle for those you love brings a warmth to your heart. My grandad was one of the groundsmen at the Pheonix Park in the 70s.
That was a nice little watch. I had the same feelings when my parents passed away, but I’m sure my Mam wouldn’t have wanted me to not decorate or enjoy Christmas just like we used to. So I busied myself and kept thinking how much she would have liked what I had done. Except for the gravy for Christmas dinner. She was the best gravy maker and I’ll never get that bit right. It does get easier though, just do what feels right for you. Big cwtch xx
