  • This video shows a recent setup we did of our Marlin Camper Trailer. It includes the annexe roof and polls but not the walls. I reckon we have plenty of room for improvement so all feedback would be awesome. The tent itself is an Oztrail Ridgeline Zenith.

    OMG what a pain in the ar$e to setup!
    I've a 14 year old soft floor Camel camper trailer. Everything is internal poles. I'm setup from scratch in the time it takes you to put all those damn pegs in!

      I’d love to see a video of your setup. It’s funny - it has never really felt like much of a pain. For an overnighter we often just pull the top across. Done in minutes. Normally though we’ll peg it down, take our time - even then maybe 20-30 for the tent, bunks annexe etc? Not sure though, I’ve never timed it.

    Great vid and well done to everyone for helping out. Loved the commentary from the kids with their cameras as well 😂
    How has the camper faired up until now?
    Looking at one for my family of 4 now, it fits well into our budget and seems perfect for what we would be using it for anyway.
    Any feedback since you posted this video?
    I still technically need to consult the boss about how serious we are, buying one at this point in time anyway 😂
    Thanks!

      Hey Nekmnit. We have really enjoyed the camper and the adventures it has enabled! It withstood a massive storm at Depot beach without issues. It is important to use the spreader bars in a storm as this ensures no water pools. One adjustment I made to the spreader poles was adding some stronger c clips. The original ones (white plastic) failed over time. New ones were only a few dollars on ebay and an easy fix.

    • @motecreative
      @motecreative  4 года назад

      That is all only minor. This is a simple, classic camper trailer. It just works. We did add a Raawcon pole kit to make setting up the annexe easier. I highly recommend that kit. You can get by without it but for $50 it's an awesome invention.

    thanks for your video. I'm picking up my marlin camper on the weekend. wondering where you got your ground sheets and what sizes they are?

    • @motecreative
      @motecreative  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Paul, top work on picking up a Marlin :) we have one of the Aldi ground sheets under the sleeping section and it is an oztrail ultramesh ground sheet under the annexe. It’s made out of a shade cloth type material. It is 12x16. It does the job well but can almost be slippery when wet. The Aldi ones are more like a rubber. But not big enough for the annexe. You could use 2. Enjoy the trailer :)

    • @sunriseboy4837
      @sunriseboy4837 2 года назад

      Hell, get the ground sheets from Aldi. A third/quarter of the price compared to anywhere else. In fact at Marlin they are $120 for something you get at Aldi for $30.

      No probs. It’s a 2017 Marlin explorer with the off-road pack and some customisation. The tent was then branded Oztrail Ridgeline Zenith. I hope that helps :)

    Hi there, thanks for your video. Im wondering how long did this take to set up ? from start to finish please?

    • @motecreative
      @motecreative  4 года назад +4

      Hey Heidi. The day we filmed it it did take longer than it normally does, maybe I was a bit video nervous :) it may have been 50 mins all up?
      After a few trips to practice, we have found that getting the fold over tent, the annexe and kitchen setup might take 30-40 mins? Another 10 to get bunks setup etc. in an overnight stay we have setup just the sleeping part in 10 mins, that is without the spreader bars.
      All in all, it’s better not to rush, just enjoy the time away. Sometimes things take longer and other times they take less.
      I recently bought some of the Raawcon pole converters for the awning. This means one person can easily set it up.

      @@motecreative HI there, Thanks for the feed back. Ive watched a marlyn camper video and they say its under 2mins to set up, that's why it was great to see for real what was going on with your video. I think I shall take a trip up to the shop and suss it all out. Thanks again :)

    • @motecreative
      @motecreative  4 года назад +1

      Heidi Lee Warta theoretically you can put it up in 2 minutes. But there is always something to move out of the way, or adjust. 10mins is really good for a quick stop.
      We love our Marlin and the space it offers for the price is exceptional. With every camper trailer I imagine you have to learn the steps but we’ve had so many great trips any learning is soon forgotten!
      The more often you camp the easier it gets too :)

    Great vid but Marlin Camper trailers are massively over priced. So this year I bought a second hand oztrail camper 12, top only, with all sides of annex in excellent condition (2011 version better quality canvas very heavy). Put that on a 6x4 high side heavy duty brand new trailer (no rego required in vic) and it cost me $3000. These are over $15000 and 2/3 the size of a camper 12and if you get it on finance well good luck with that. DYI is the only way. 😁

      Hey Roshan - I bought this a few years and customised it with the electrics etc. Looking at Marllin's site it looks like the equivalent model is $10,898. I then added the DPOR Drifta Kitchen. marlincampers.com.au/product/marlin-explorer/

      @@motecreative hey mate, thanks for sharing this good video to demonstrate the set up, I have a family of four and about to pick up a used marlin as our first camper, here’s my two questions hope could get answer from the user: 1. Is there any there any parts I should specifically check for the used ones before purchasing? 2. And can I add a DPOR drifta kitchen to marlin escape or cruiser? Cheers!

    • @motecreative
      @motecreative  Год назад +1

      @@jacoblee8566 great to hear you’ve picked one up :) We have had no fail points so no specific parts but I would do a few checks. I would check for any mould in the canvas - there could be stains of old mould, you would need to check the mould has been killed. Also check the zips, make sure they are running smooth. Poles can also rust but they can be replaced.
      Also look at the welds and attachment point for suspension. You could even get a mechanic todo that. It all depends on your own confidence. Either way everything is repairable, it’s the best thing about keeping it simple!
      As far as the kitchen goes - they are awesome! It will depend on the height inside the trailer. You would need to check that. Im pretty sure Drifta make these custom. So that might be an option.
      I hope you have a great time camping!
