We have to go through so much just to get Knuckles + Tails duo in Sonic 1. It really baffles me how Sonic Team still hasn’t included an easy way to select the two yet but oh well.
there is acutely a lot of oddities in origins and origins plus. In the final zone in sonic 1 if you place a signpost or capsule you get sent to AN UNUSED level select screen left over from the mobile port, the trick won't work in sonic 2 as it just sends you to hidden palace zone and then oil ocean. in all versions before 2.0.1 the game would crash in sonic 1 if you collect the 6th chaos emerald as sonic and tails, (may be possible with knuckles and amy ) . In the 2.0.0 update there is some more glitches. Sonic 1 is impossible as Tails as the game crashes in scrap brain act 3 as soon as he enters the water. Alongside this in 2.0.1 tails breaks gravity sometimes (don't know why). In 1,2 and 3 loading a boss rush will bring you into the main game and in cd it sends you to a glitched version of the cd manual and exiting that leads you to the 2011 menu with leaderboards blacked out and achievements not being useable. From 2.0.0 onwards If playing Amy in (Classic) Blue Spheres, the game brings up characters using corrupted graphics. These are actually leftover remnants of Mighty and Ray from Sonic Mania Plus, though due to their .bin files being missing from the 3K Datafile, they appear corrupted beyond recognizability. If Mighty or Ray jumps, it crashes the game. If the player doesn't choose the corrupted characters and decides to go to the next characters, they will be met with the following order: Sonic and Sonic, Tails and Sonic, Knuckles and Sonic, Amy and Sonic, then an infinite loop of the corrupted characters and Sonic. (text from tcrf). and some fun facts, the switch thingy in launch base zone is internally called...Sus and the animation of when knuckz gets attacked is called OH NO!

Play as sonic and tails 4. enter debug mode and spawn the random random character capsule (will be blank when selected, but will be normal when placed) 5. break them until you get tails 6. enjoy
I'd like to think that in the Level Select, they originally wanted to make 06 be Knuckles and Tails, but because of how much controversy the number 06 brings to the Sonic series, Sega panicked, and told the Mania team to not include it in Origins!🤣
It wasn't meant to be actually. Most of my videos are planned long before i actually get around to making them. But the ideas for these shorter videos only came about when i had the main video mostly edited. And instead of cramming basically 4 long tangents into that script, i figured it would be best to just talk about each separately. So they really are just bonuses. But with all that said, Cybershell is a cool dude, so i'll take it haha
It’s actually possible to do so if you leave one of your Nintendo Switches not to update the Sonic Origins game leaving it at its oldest. I have updated on the TV but not on my Nintendo Switch Lite not only that but you can also make moving objects that you get squashed with in Sonic 1 disappear which makes it more easier. But if you play older versions or your iOS they noticed that bug and patched it out! Another way to play as Knuckles & Tails is to play a remake game made by a fan called Sonic 1 Forever but it’s marked as an unlockable though unless you use the Character Combos + Mod.

Currently if you access Boss Rush on a cleared file in Sonic 1, Sonic CD and Sonic 2 you will be able to explore some broken stuff and even get to play Boss Rush with Sonic & Tails and Amy & Tails in Sonic 1 (doesnt work the Knuckles & Tails trick) Also if I must ask, is it possible to get Knuckles & Tails in S3K by any chance?
Funny you should mention the boss rush glitch, that'll be my 4th bonus video. I hadn't heard about it from anyone else, so i wasn't sure if it's something i had done unintentionally and i'm not even sure how it triggered. But i've stumbled upon a few weird things that i'll be sure to show off. I tried the same trick on S3&K hoping to have Tails follow Knuckles, but had no luck. If it is possible i wouldn't know how to do it.

If you use Debug Mode to get Knuckles into Sonic's boss fight of Marble Garden Zone Act 2, you can spawn in Tails who's of course meant to carry the player, but he'll even run around with you like normal outside of the boss arena. It sadly doesn't stick when you leave the level, and I'm not sure where else this trick would even be possible in the game. Maybe with some tweaks it could be made a cheat code like Egg Reverie Flight if the main difference is also getting Knuckles into pathways he normally doesn't use, though they didn't go with the cut & Knuckles Mode cheat code leftover from Mania (despite a Knuckles piloting the Tornado sprite in the code presumably meant for it), so IDK. There's also the whole other kettle of fish in the Blue Spheres Amy glitch (which they still haven't patched yet) to get wacky character results in OG Blue Sphere like Sonic w/ Tails, Sonic w/ Amy, Sonic w/ Knuckles and Sonic w/ *Sonic*, though I'm not sure if that includes Knuckles w/Tails. So cool this is technically a thing in Origins, I had heard of some old videos about getting a glitch like this on mobile but I could never get it to work. Maybe it's coincidence like what the S3&K thing might be, but as mentioned, a double character option like Tails and Tails isn't also possible like it is in the Blue Sphere glitch. And in an old S3&K anniversary stream Stealth did when they wanted to remaster S3&K on mobile, you'll notice he does mention including Knuckles and Tails as a cheat option "in Sonic 1 and Sonic 2" twice in succession, perhaps a slip of the tongue. I wonder if it's worth bringing this up to Sega to poke them to make it a real, almost universal option like Amy w/ Tails is or if they'd just patch it out lol. I'm guessing some of the really obscure RSDK secrets like the Miles name change having a button cheat code in S1/S2 was stuff they weren't even aware of when putting together Origins, even when removing other stuff like Boss Attack Zone.

Somewhat reminds me of playing _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ on the Genesis - collecting a number of Chaos Emeralds before resetting the system and starting a new game _with those Emeralds still collected._
2:06 This was always possible in the mobile version through a glitch. Where you game over as Sonic and start a Knuckles run. I don’t know the specifics, but that’s an idea of how it works. It also works in Sonic 2 mobile. Which might be why that game had the feature in Origins.

@mr.jitterspam9552 Didn't work for me. I did some debug trick to unlock Tails easily, but when i gave myself all the emeralds and finished it again, Knuckles remained locked. I'm sure there's some way to do it, but it isn't worth it at that point for only a quick test.

I think it’s stupid how the Game Gear roms are locked to the game’s box art. So unless I don’t want to see the better Japanese Box art so I can more conveniently play English Tails Adventure, I would have to constantly change the box art back forth. So at that point, if I like playing the Game Gear games quite a bit, it would make the ability to change box art pointless. Yeah, I know this is minor, but it’s still a criticism.

I mean, sure. I do call it level select too when applicable. But this video isn't about selecting levels. There's additional options in the remaster that weren't there in original level select, which were the focus in this video. So i found it more fitting to call it the cheat menu in this instance.
If you choose Sonic & Tails from the menu then get a game over, you should then be able to choose knuckles and Tails will be with you. I haven't tried this myself, but i have seen a couple other comments mention this
So on Origins Plus- you can play as 2 people with 1 player mode, as sonic (or whoever) with tails, where a second player can control Tails? on sonic 1, 2 and 3??

I just tried it, it still works in the 2.02 version of the game. Just select 00 under Player in the level select menu, start a level, then return to the title screen. You'll have to start a new game as knuckles for it to work.

If you have good timing skills, you can use the character monitors to get any character you want from it
Using a similar trick, you can get the Super Peel-Out on other characters, but first you need to enable it from the options menu from the save select.

They probably realized you can get to the sky with Tails and just glide the entire stage with Knuckles

Knuckles+Tails was available in Sonic 2 2013's Level Select screen.
Yes, but that's more of a hidden secret. Origins gives you that option out of the gate, complete with a dedicated save file.
I found it a long time ago on mobile if you get a game over wih tails play with knuckles next game and bam you got it tails and knuckles

I just tried it, it still works in the 2.02 version of the game.
