This inspired me to make some mini mossariums for friends out of little glass bottles. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find a wide assortment of glass containers with lids for cheap. Next I'm planning on making a larger one out of a giant glass light bulb.
Another mossy terrarium build coming at you! Have a great weekend everyone! Also let me know if you guys are getting the notifications or not. I am suspect that RUclips decided to cut you guys off after my absence a few weeks ago.
Hey thank you for the video, also I did get a notification :) I've been wanting to ask you about the mini paludarium build that you put up to a vote a few months ago, when should we expect to see a video of it?
"I didn't expect it to come out that fast, so I made a bit of a mess". Joking aside, your knowledge and videos are great! I've made two native terrariums since finding out about this channel. Hope they live.
I love it ! Nice idea to silicone onto the candle stand. You are lucky to have a nice supply of moss near where you live, it looks beautiful. Thanks, I am plotting now !
I reckon you should use a cork or some sort of wood stopper instead of the cap you put on, would match the base way better! great video though Im excited to see how it looks in a couple of months!!
This is a beautiful design!! Thanks for all your videos Tanner, you're super helpful and a cool guy! I just started my first terrarium today thanks to your channel =)
Can you do a video on decorative self sustaining terrariums that require indirect to almost no sunlight? I find I can make terrariums but they aren't very practical because you don't benefit from air purification and they take up too much room next to the window that could be used for more useful air purifying plants.
Just a question because this terrariums are fantastic are growing plants that enjoy humidity. Would that in theory mean that I could grow things like peppermint or lavender successfully??
Hey, thank you so much for these wonderful videos. All of them! I keep stuff as well. One time you added some mini oak leaf creeping ivy. Where did you get it? And am i calling it the wrong name in my searches? Also, i like mini, mini plants like mini baby tears, corsican mint, mini oak leaf ivy, any other suggestions?
dat asian kid that wouldn't work since there is nothing to give the plants nutrients or eat the algae that would over run the plants for the little nutrients in the "tank".
Yes! I was thinking about this question too. I don't know if it would be possible and how large it would have to be? In my case I wouldn't mind if I would have to get schrim/snails and small bugs, but I would rather not have fish. Or they would have to be able to survive a nuclear disaster.
Except his brine shrimp aquarium (glass block) died out. The problem with brine shrimp is that they only eat at their juvenile stage. Once they reach adulthood, they lose the ability to eat then breed and die. AND they do not eat their dead or their detritus. Brine shrimp are not self sustaining. They produce so many young in a generation that they quickly overwhelm the ecosystem in the tank. Plants alone cannot keep up with nutrient export. The shrimp must be harvested.
In my terrarium the glass is constantly covered with droplets of water. And this is still after four week of leaving the 5 liter winebottle open. I added a modest amount of water and have been removing moisture with a dry towel ever since, because it obscures the view and I am told eventually only one side should be foggy. I wonder if there is some science or calculations to the watering you normally do? To me it seemed you put in quite a lot of water for such a tiny container. I am surprised if the glass on the inside isn't constantly fogged up.
Lol well I kind of am grown up already! I went to school for graphic design. To answer your question I am trying to use all of my talents to be a self made man haha!
life expectancy should theoretically be infinite if its sealed well and if your plants dont start to rot. Thats what happened to mine all the time untill i put some springtails in them that i caught myself, thats also the answer to your seconds question. They are amazing at keeping the terrarium alive. The first one i made was just some sand and dirt from outside with some moss and grass, pretty bad tbh, i just wanted to test how it would work out. It startet rotting pretty quickly but when i put my springtails in, they basically ate everything that died. That was 3 months ago. I havent opened it since, and everything is growing just fine. So if you wanna make one yourself just try it, you should get some pringtails though. I caught maybe 20 of them in my garden and now, 3 months later i have a box with a population of a few thousand. Buying them is probably a better idea if you dont wanna search for them like i did. I just wanted to see if i could do it wouthout buying anything. :D
I found them by digging a few inches in the compost heap and under a pile of rotting wet leaves in a hedge. They are not the white type, but they do the same job. Some time ago i tried to put some shredded moss, some uncooked rice grains and some wet bread in half a plastic bottle and buried under a bunch of leaves, as i found in an internet forum, but instead of a swarm of springtrails after five days I only got 2-3 after two weeks, but if you want to try ... also try putting some sweet potatoes in it
I don't think this is the right video to ask on, but: how do isopods (like pillbugs) do in terrariums? My native terrarium has some mold in it, and apparently no springtails to clean it up. However, since pillbugs are really common here, I was thinking of taking some from outside and putting them in my terrarium. But what would happen? Would they end up eating all the plants?
It depends how big the terrarium is, if it is too small than pill bugs will probably eat the plants. I have had luck with a couple of them in pickle-jar sized terrariums, so as long as it's a decent size the pill bugs will probably do a good job of cleaning up.
Like the others said, the size of the container will somewhat dictate your results. If you get a few smaller isos, they should do the job without causing too much damage. However if you can obtain some tiny millipedes instead they actually take care of mold better. In either case just monitor if they eat the plants or not. If they do, just remove them. My isos tend to nibble on my plants, but they grow large and fast enough that they can't keep up. Also pick out any excess mold with tweezers. It won't spread as much or at all if you keep pulling it out.
Hey, great video! Are your terrariums receiving direct or indirect sunlight? I tried to make one of those in a lightbulb and the moss ended up kinda burnt. Thanks for the videos, really helpful!
Could you please spell the name of the plant which is similar to the moss and which you used in this project? I also have been using this plant in my moss terrarium because it grows in my backyard and I'm looking for an info about this plant. Anyway, great video and great channel as well! Cheers!
"...and silicone too because it holds on to various surfaces like wood better than regular old silicone." The sentence confuses me, Great video as usual though, informative and fascinating as always.
There's Silicon I and Silicone II. Silicone I cures by an acid cure, while Silicone II cures by a neutral cure. Silicone I, is the "regular old silicone". Thank you, much appreciated.
My terrariums are pretty hit and miss, only 1/3 actually keep on going. Most just die off after a few days or a week. Even if its just moss. It starts smelling really terrible once I open it up again and the plants inside are dead. Sometimes the terrarium recovers once I open it but dies a few days after being closed. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Im not an expert but you might be over watering them? I have a few and I try to make sure that there is just enough moisture in the false bottom, usually this moisture will evaporate and will keep the plants hydrated!! Hope this helps :)
I cant find spring anywhere and i can buy them online, how do i save my terrariums from mold and also i have been noticing a black layer on the top soil, is it normal? please help
SerpaDesign I tried a sort of moss that grows on the side of the tress, its really hard to find cause of our hot weather. In the terrarium it rotens everytime plus some small plants that i cant identify , but what works is when I put a seed in it , it grows well beside of the plants that died and rotens
Did you put it on a bark substrate? The moss that grows on trees needs bark or some kind of wood to grow on. Basically you try to replicate the conditions where you found it growing.
"It's like a happy family of terrariums". That made me smile, that's really how they look like, all together by the window.
This inspired me to make some mini mossariums for friends out of little glass bottles. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find a wide assortment of glass containers with lids for cheap. Next I'm planning on making a larger one out of a giant glass light bulb.
This was so beautiful and calming. The music had a great effect, too. I feel so zen and inspired now. :D
Another mossy terrarium build coming at you! Have a great weekend everyone! Also let me know if you guys are getting the notifications or not. I am suspect that RUclips decided to cut you guys off after my absence a few weeks ago.
It's beautiful!
SerpaDesign it's so pretty and will you do an update on it?
Hey thank you for the video, also I did get a notification :)
I've been wanting to ask you about the mini paludarium build that you put up to a vote a few months ago, when should we expect to see a video of it?
SerpaDesign I have notifications on but did not get one for this video
I did get notification,, and its worth it.. The mossarium was beautiful
I found this channel a couple of days ago, and that same day I found myself making my own terrarium, inspired by his tiny native terrarium build.
"I didn't expect it to come out that fast, so I made a bit of a mess".
Joking aside, your knowledge and videos are great! I've made two native terrariums since finding out about this channel. Hope they live.
So cool, the zen like music makes it extremely relaxing to watch.
I liked this build. Very zen Nice music. I like watching people work
I love it ! Nice idea to silicone onto the candle stand. You are lucky to have a nice supply of moss near where you live, it looks beautiful. Thanks, I am plotting now !
Very beautiful mossarium! Thank you for using lovely native flute music too😊
I love the background music
So freaking cool. I'm afraid once I get started I won't be able to stop ☺️
Haha! Well I only know how to do things in excess, so I don't think I will be much help there.
SwedishFishBjd it’s already started with me I built my first native one and now I’m hooked.
Same here. 3 days in and I've already done 7
Another awesome video! Since watching your videos, I went and got a set of tweezers and they have made my projects so much easier!
VERY nice build. Really enjoyed this one. Great result.
Thanks! I didn't like it at first, but I like it as well.
I don't know how I ended up seeing your vids, but I love them and I love your passion for it! Keep on rockin'! Cheers from Switzerland ;)
I reckon you should use a cork or some sort of wood stopper instead of the cap you put on, would match the base way better! great video though Im excited to see how it looks in a couple of months!!
one of my favourite ones so far. Also, really love the music in the bg!
really like this one. can't wait to see the update
This is probably my favorite out of the ones you've done. It already looks really cool!
Nice video. Love moss.
Watching this was very relaxing. Great job!
Happy! I’m happy, so happy. Great vid!
It looks beautiful!
I also loved the music!
Nice video.
Fabulous! Thank you!
You are simply amazing.
i was really feeling this video especially with the Chinese music in the back. zen.
This is absolutely beautiful. 😊
Love your videos! Keep up the great work
This is a beautiful design!! Thanks for all your videos Tanner, you're super helpful and a cool guy! I just started my first terrarium today thanks to your channel =)
So lovely.
Nice video. Would love to see another terrarium competition.
The next one is in October.
Nice video, informative and very calming. Please do upload an update video after some months!
This is pretty cool!
I am going to have to try this!
Can you do a video on decorative self sustaining terrariums that require indirect to almost no sunlight? I find I can make terrariums but they aren't very practical because you don't benefit from air purification and they take up too much room next to the window that could be used for more useful air purifying plants.
I'm hitting the flea markets tomorrow in search of a flask 😍
New to your channel. Obsessed keep them coming.
Can you make a video on growing liverworts and Lichen? I think liverworts might thrive alot better than moss in moist enclosed terrariums.
Liverwort does fantastic in closed terrariums. I could do a care video on them though at some point for sure.
Love it!
It is so relaxing to watch you work on your terrariums, call me subscribed.
Great video
Looks cool!
I think this is my favorite build I wish it was larger though also I think it'd be cool if you had a large glass worm farm with moss on top thank you
would that even work? worms need oxygen, moss would grow into a mat and block oxygen from the soil, i think
Thanks for the video dude, really nice work and a very chilled video. Definitely want to see some update videos in the future :P
Nice
Could you make an update on this mossarium later?
Yes.
New subscriber love your video's and this mosserium is exactly the kind of build I want to make.
Thumbs up Great job
wonderful!
Thx for the vid
Y o u a r e a m a z i n g ! ! !
Hey dude, I just wanna say you're awesome!
Just a question because this terrariums are fantastic are growing plants that enjoy humidity. Would that in theory mean that I could grow things like peppermint or lavender successfully??
At first I thought you would use the melted candle wax to hold the glass in place. It might not hold the smooth glass too well for very long though!
That's a cool idea, but it probably wouldn't work.
nice bong.
Mel's Artbook dont.
Mel's Artbook yessssss. Just a bout to comment this. Lol.
Radio Mirror Park lol. It looks like one tho 😂. Lol
Please do a self sustaining aquarium (like without fish, shrimp, ect)
So basically a planted aquarium without fish?
dat asian kid that wouldn't work since there is nothing to give the plants nutrients or eat the algae that would over run the plants for the little nutrients in the "tank".
I was about to ask this aswell, curious if this is possible and how large it would have to be.

How do you purify your water? And is that really necessary?
Very beautiful! You did an amazing job!! Just curious what do you want to do when you grow up? You do an amazing at scaping terrariums!
Lol well I kind of am grown up already! I went to school for graphic design. To answer your question I am trying to use all of my talents to be a self made man haha!
Just subscribed, awesome channel!
Nice... What's the life expectancy with these types of enclosed Terrariums? Does adding the springtails increase likelihood of success? Thanks

Exactly what GamingXperience said.
Why do I love moss so much?
Men, you are crazy... And I can't stop watching you... :)
Do you know where I could find Isopods or springtails ?? Great video!
iJosJones you can buy them online
I found them by digging a few inches in the compost heap and under a pile of rotting wet leaves in a hedge. They are not the white type, but they do the same job. Its a pretty small terrarium, with only one big plant, two mosses, and a bunch of small plants that grew from the dirt.
I'd say put in a pair of small ones, and see how that goes.
I'm still going to wait for Serpa to reply
Like the others said, the size of the container will somewhat dictate your results. If you get a few smaller isos, they should do the job without causing too much damage. I believe you are referring to liverwort?
Yes, thank you! Sorry that I wasn't able to figure out the name from the video, but unfortunately I'm not a native speaker.
Is it possible to make a closed terrarium that houses mushrooms?
nice! are you going to do an update on this one?
you should make a terrarium out of a bong
That would look amazing actually 😂
Can you use marbles as a false bottom in larger terrariums?
You did make a mess you silly fella. Good thing you cleaned it up.
Would you be able to put a species of mushroom inside a terrarium?
"...and silicone too because it holds on to various surfaces like wood better than regular old silicone." The sentence confuses me, Great video as usual though, informative and fascinating as always.

seems like too much co2. i recommend opening it more often
You probably need to oxygenate the terrarium
I cant find spring anywhere and i can buy them online, how do i save my terrariums from mold and also i have been noticing a black layer on the top soil, is it normal? please help
abdullah Hashmi Google it!
Can you do another contest for this month and for the prize you can send them a little plastic trophy signed by you
what is capacity of this round bottom flask?
Oh boy... Kinda hard to avoid the last one's comments with this container...
I've got to get tweezers.
I made about 5 terrarium with different plants, and it never want to stay alive after a week. Don't know where is the problem, but good video
What type of plants are you using?
SerpaDesign I tried a sort of moss that grows on the side of the tress, its really hard to find cause of our hot weather. do you trim the moss when it gets too big?
Usually not, but you can if you want.
Can you post an update to how this looks now
Could you put a insect in a mosarium
Hmmph...where is the link to the lid thingie ? "Just follow the link" he says...
SerpaDesign What size is your Florence Flask?
It's not a true Florence Flask, but I believe it's around 1000mL based on the measurements.
1:48 THAT'S WHAT I SAID TO HER, BUT SHE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME
Thankyou 🍀☘🌿🌻🍂🍂🍃🍃🐉🐛🦐🐒
Ya I still get notifications
There's no link to follow anytime you bring them up, tho. If you used annotations, they are nowhere to be seen.
Does anyone know the song at 7:00?
1:51
This some Naruto plot thickening music 💀💀💀💀
This is a beautiful mossarium but am I the only one who felt like the constant moving of the tweezers was like watching an unsatisfying video
Whats the creator of the music called?
I don't know, it's just some stock music from a website that I pay for.
S P R I N G T A I L S ! ! !
