That "film-set" canal at 9:20 looks like a copy of some place in Vegas I've been to. What with the Eiffel Tower reproduction, it seems they've just plonked Vegas into Macau. Very good room for that rate - and while the housekeeping lacked, it was a very nice touch to give you exec room access.
Thank you for your kind comment, 10k subs is beyond anything I thought could happen. I take your point on the "fakery" of it all, to me it's a bit like going to Universal Studios
Great video, Phil. For any of your viewers considering a trip to Macau, I would recommend avoiding weekends if possible and definitely any Chinese holidays. I spent 10 days there on a work trip a couple of years ago and trying to get into a restaurant was far more difficult Friday to Sunday than the rest of the week. I stayed at Grand Hyatt and was impressed with the hotel and service, although I doubt I’ll ever go back to the city - I’ve no interest in casinos or shopping so there’s not much it has to offer me. Might suit other people’s tastes, though and like you point out it has some lovely hotels at very reasonable prices.
Thanks for your comment and support, Nick. Avoiding weekends is an excellent tip, thank you, I arrived in Macao on a Sunday and was there for three nights, so all off peak dates I imagine. I did spend two days exploring the non-casino areas (the minimum stake is too rich for my budget) but there still isn't that much to see.
@@mygreygapyear yeah the old Portuguese part of town is interesting and pleasant to wander around, but that’s probably half a day at best. Glad I’ve seen it though 👍🏻
Brilliant video again, must agree the Big Ben and the whole london effect is both spectacular and bizarre :) I used to stay at the Hyatt grand across the road due to status, again another casino and area to explore. Thanks for the memories of HK weekend exploring :)
Thank you for your kind words, I agree with you, the red bus and the phone box don't seem out of place when I'm watching in the UK but at the time it was both spectacular and bizarre
The room was generous & looked comfortable. I loved the selfie with the member of staff, great fun. What a crazy place Macao is, something of a tourists playground.
Thanks for your comment, he really wanted me to take his picture and he was superb. I really didn't know what to expect and the strip was unexpected, but I got out on two days and explored the old towns and temples.
Phil. Congratulations on your first year. Woo Hoo. All your videos have been entertaining and full of information and tips. I dislike giving negative feedback BUT, if it helps its good. Isn't it? whilst the info in this video was great , the video really played havoc with my eyes. The focussing at times was poor and didn't move smoothly through shots. I don't know what you can do to improve it, maybe a better camera or a gimbal mount would help. But apart from that, great content. A great first year and I'm glad you're signing up for more. I look forward to following you and to more of your travels in a small world.😊 Steve. C.
Thank you for your feedback Steve, I really appreciate it. It was shot with a GoPro and it was this video that made me seek out a new camera, a Sony ZV-1 M2. Although the GoPro is notorious in low light I think mine had also suffered from sensor degradation because I sent it off and the one that came back is much better in low light , so I'm not going to buy any further GoPro products. Part of me wishes that I'd bought DJI Pocket 3, it was in the mix but I was concerned about replacement / spare batteries. It's great to have you along, Phil
We went to the Venetian in vagas last year, oh wow is it similar! Like you said the indoor sky is like a movie set!
Thanks for your comment and your support, yeah, it took my breath away.
10p to phone home, I remember that! Kept spending mine on sweets though😂
Ah the good old days, 10p to phone home. You're clearly very naughty, I didn't dare spend my 10p 😀

VERY COOL! Thanks for the info + video!

Great living vicariously through your travels (whilst still waiting for retirement). 😂🙏👏
Glad I can be of help Mark, I assume you have the date on your calendar? 😊

Great videos, now subscribed and binge watching 😂
Thank you for your kind comments, I'm so glad you're enjoying them
That check in line is crazy, I need to get some hotel status asap. Looking forward to more hotel reviews Phil!
Thanks for your comment and support, it's much appreciated, the queues varied in length but they were always slow moving...
Great video, Phil. I don't care for the phoney copy buildings. Congratulations on reaching 10k subs.

Interesting vlog i didn't know all that was there i had double check you weren't in Vegas😁 🍻
It's all popped up in the last 10 years, it's like a little mini Vegas 😊

Nice one Phil, how did you get Gold Marriott status
Thanks for your comment, I get Marriott Gold through my Amex Platinum Card
They even have the Westminster lamposts (with correct insignia!)
Now I want to go back, because I missed the, thanks for your comment though, much appreciated 😊

Interesting that Macao, is trying to replicate Vegas
Yeah, and it's the American Sand Corp. that own those three resorts.
Hi Phil, just checked online on the official Sheraton website and no rooms are available for all of October, November and December. Strange?
That is strange I wonder if they're doing a noisy refurb?
Hey phil you should try a ststus challenge with marriott, you can get titanium quite easy and fhw benefits will be good
Thank you for the tip, I am looking at Marriott and Hilton as possible alternatives to IHG at the moment, so watch this space, it might just happen 😊
