You just ended a lot of frustration and saved me a bunch of money. I had jammed strands of fine copper wire into the joint, and that didn't work. My next step would have been Loctite, which might have worked, and if not, JBWeld was next. I saw a video with a guy beating the edge with a hammer, and that didn't seem right. Using a socket to crimp around the circle is just brilliant! Where do I send the beer?
My crank is 40 years old and I though for sure it was stripped. I couldn’t get the cover off, but a few good whacks on the end of the pin and voila! Working window! Thank you!
I tried hammering but it didn’t work - the window cranks open the the piece unscrews and falls pug when you try to close the window. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for a great video and easy to follow instructions. I just used your video to fix one of our living room windows that wouldn't close. Can't wait to brag to my husband about my home repair that didn't cost a penny.
Thank you Thank you! We bought our home and it has a lot of Caradco windows, many we can not open because the crank spins, this is great. We have other problems on the outside of some of the windows where the bottom sash is rotting, just another problem to try and figure out"/ But it is great to be able to open the windows:) Thanks again!
Can you show us how to remove the crank. Also my windows came without screens can you please measure your screen for this window and post a video? Would be really appreciated. Thanks
Thanks wiseguy0774....for taking the time to post this fix! None of the window mfs or Truth hardware mention this. Who wouldn't want to spend a minute with a hammer and socket rather than shell out $50 for new hardware on an old window that will have to be replaced soon anyway!
Great advice!!

You're a life saver! Thank you!
I have a house full of Caradco windows with broken cranks. This is great! Thanks.

Great job, do you know where I can buy crank operators
I have a friend who has a catalog of window replacement parts. Don't remember what it's called, I'll get back to you.

Thanks for sharing this. Can't wait to try it as my window only fully opens if we pull from outside, and shuts if we push .... yes, from outside!!!
mine now cranks open but won't crank shut :(
