Saw them play this album at the ‘97 bumbershoot. They opened with this and were of course incredible. I had graduated high school in ‘94, but only really got my life together actually after they had played this show and now my memories of this album are tied to that.
Douglas Martsch, you are a pure genious. Your voice, lyrical contents, and all the songs you've written inspire me to try to be a fraction as good a musician as you. The emotions you pack into your singing and lyrics churn out my own life emotions, and the music of BTS is always be important and monumental to me. This performance is probably one of the greatest things I've ever seen.
Everything BTS has ever done is underrated and underappreciated. Doug's influence is enormous, yet he'll seemingly never get a fraction of what bands that couldn't exist without him have. Not that they don't deserve it, mouse is an all time favorite, but this band should be equally as celebrated. I've never understood why there's no BTS/MM tours. It just makes sense, they flatter one another. Hell they could co headline and have BTS play before mouse (so morons can't leave before realizing how good the band is) and that would probably be big boon for built to spill. It's really a shame as it should've been so forever ago, idk that he wants more tbh, but they deserve to be more celebrated none the less. Critical acclaim is great, I think fans are better. Plus id kill to see that show.
Yah, it's awesome. I just posted. I saw them last night and was kind of underwhelmed. He needs those extra guitars. The venue sound system and acoustics didn't help me out either.
i got into the show in 1999 through some miracle for free and i went to see them at Irving Plaza last night 23 years later and got in free again with the same different miracle. they ended the set with this song and it was so good it was memory erasing. it was full circle great to see Doug again, and there's nothing wrong with loving him.
I remember seeing them at a small bar in Seattle in the late ‘90s. The thing that stuck out most were the guys who were playing pool acting annoyed by the band. Bitch please, there was a line around the block, don’t act like you didn’t wait over an hour to get in to a bar just to play pool.
i still have this on tape! but the sound quality is much better on this upload than on my ten+ year-old vhs tape that was set on super long play for massive amounts of recording... anyone remember SLP and LP settings on VCRs? am i dating myself here?
God bless Doug for this. Eternity is a long time to either be in torment with the other idiots or finally be free with those who give their lives to Jesus Christ.
So almost everyone, that's the unfortunate truth, especially as we get every day further from PFNO release and the 90s in general. I hate it. Also knowing as a musician myself that their obscurity hurts the chance of other bands like this popping up as well as the success of the ones that do. Hell most the people I talk to don't know MM who couldn't exist without Doug and they had huge pop sensible singles on a largely accessible record. People just don't get it, they bitch about music while not supporting the musicians who are trying to do that stuff. Don't get me wrong there's not many, but they are out there. I had to play for a few years touring to find a handful of truly incredible bands who were on the come up, and sadly most have broken up.
Every thousand years This metal sphere Ten times the size of Jupiter Floats just a few yards past the Earth You climb on your roof And take a swipe at it With a single feather Hit it once every thousand years 'Til you've worn it down To the size of a pea Yeah, I'd say that's a long time But it's only half a blink In the place you're gonna be Where you gonna be? Where will you spend eternity? I'm gonna be perfect from now on I'm gonna be perfect, starting now Stop making that sound Stop making that sound I will say I forgot it But it was only yesterday And it's all you had to say
This is completely mind melting. I saw him last night and it was nowhere near this good. He is playing as a 3 piece, but he needs the extra guitars to add the layered sound he gets on his recordings. That's what he does in the studio; do it live too. But still I get he may not want to tour with as many people so he can keep cost down. It's not lot musicians like this are getting rich.
Have not seen Doug live since the Tree People he took my head off , really like the halo benders ,liked the first bts/cr, not so much the studio stuff, Tom is selling it, this live stuff is great, so far , I have not caught the Tree people reunion , That would be my second choice must see show, I kinda like Ron and Pat.
@jkthecjer Because it's "smug and superior" to wear an Aleister Crowley shirt? Because he's not actually a famous name, popularised by Jimmy Page's obsession with him, and Black Sabbath's 'Mr Crowley'? Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are hipster, right?
i still have this on tape! but the sound quality is much better on this upload than on my ten+ year-old vhs tape that was set on super long play for massive amounts of recording... anyone remember SLP and LP settings on VCRs? am i dating myself here?

@@strangerthanfiction4014has never been in the top 100 from what I know, but it’s always around the 110-115 ranking

I've seen BTS dozens of times. This lineup is absolutely the strongest. The layering, it's incredible.

@@wlouisharris I missed the cello mainly, when I saw em
This is still the best song ever.. it sounds ever so slightly slower which helps it in his majesty forever so. Really encompasses eternity
Hell yea brother!
i was at this show and it still rates as top ten of my medium-length life
Omkar Lewis wasn't it on May 20th, 1999?

I love the lyrics. Great song. "Where will you spend eternity?"
That's a pretty good description of eternity!
My favorite band.
Still.

I turned 35 today. I will scream at the top of my lungs at god like when I was 17 until the sky hugs me back.

I can’t get this song out of my head
“i can’t get the sound you make out of my head”
his strumming looks so effortless, he plays like he's sleepwalking
Like he's in a trance
Yep, it also comes through his music too, its unbelievably soo good
saw them live last summer and the guy on the drums was chillin, like wow
Beautiful piece
That feather on the sphere really would take a long time
waaaah. the best band last 80 years.

Ok anger out, I do agree lol. It's also magnificently written. Always wondered how much of it was taken from the story it's based on.
A Caustic reunion would be a dream also.
Should have seen Andy ,Pat,and Tom,Andy finally got to
shine so much fun.
bret netson adjusting his string at 1:56, what a rad dude
LOL (12 years later) it's always the G string!!
Doug looks younger 20 years ago.
