My favorite thing is right before they played this, Doug asked the sound guy how much time they have and he said they had time for one more, so they ripped a 17 minute song off to close it out.
Broken Chairs is just an amazing song... ot sounds like hope and despair... and longing for something... like walking aimlessly in a desert and finding an oasis... the lyrics are flawless and the music is just perfect. One of my favorite songs and this live version is the best on out there.
This is is incredible! Broken Chairs is my favorite ❤️ I want to go back to the night I saw Built To Spill, Smoking Popes and Jawbreaker play and just stay there forever! Built to Spill is one of the best bands EVER!!!!
It hurts my heart... this song is a poem written by my best friend. That they made this song is so beautiful, and a testament to Uhurus legacy of kick ass creativity.
This might be one of their best recorded live performances as a whole, so it’s a damn shame that there’s ads in the middle of it now 🙄, especially the one right after the vocal finally kicks in lol
"Broken chairs" is such a striking visual metaphor, on one hand a chair, a supportive thing, what you get a rest on, or chat with family or friends on. And "broken" suggests violence and trauma, or simply the aftermath of a particularly horrific fight. Such amazing lyrics and melody. Argh. Always that band, and that song is one of their finest. Doug is without a doubt one if not the most talented rock songwriter of his generation.
1. Doug didnt write this 2. The broken chairs, are society To sit upon such a chair, your body must conform to the flaws, and fit in, if you want rest.
Also Built to Spill definitely still wrote the music for this song, but the words are a poem from one of their friends who has long since passed (Uhuru Black).
I'm an 'Old Dude' and Built to Spill were derivative back in the day, and they definetly arn't 'rocking right' with age. They compentaly do what others do much better.
@@-0-getliffe476 ok. lol. I know the exact dude you are at a concert. so lame. pissed because you arent 23 and discovering new music. Doug is easily better at guitar smithing than any of his contemporaries from that era and genre. get a grip. sorry that not every tour is a pixies/pavement/smiths/joy division/elliott smith resurrection tour. Go listen to wilco and spoon and continue being a hipster. Dug and Brett outshred any indie guitar duo ever. ill put them up against any duo on pure sonic guitar smithing.

It’s built to spill, you should know what you’re getting into when you ask them to close out a set 😂
That’s awesome! Lol
Hahaha! The best!

Broken chairs your body conforms to. That lyric hits me so hard.
You wrote that 7 years ago and I just had the exact same thought just now!!

Tell us more about it
Go on... ♡♡♡

Bump
I've always known this was based off a poem. Do you have any insights for us?
Doug's songs live rent-free in my head forever.
uplifting, transcendent and about as good as it gets. They are just terrific. Why did it take me so long to discover them?
Thats what Ive been saying for 6 months. Its like I had my head in the fucking sand all this time.
Considering the rotating lineup nature of Built To Spill, I bet Doug choosing you to play guitar with him has gotta be some kind of honor.
man this song breaks my heart, I love it so much 💙
The ad role in the middle of the guitar solo at 5:44 ruined the entire upcoming year for me.
This might be one of their best recorded live performances as a whole, so it’s a damn shame that there’s ads in the middle of it now 🙄, especially the one right after the vocal finally kicks in lol
6:35 Doug’s guitar playing says indie rock legend but his shoes say grocery store assistant manager.
Which makes him all the morr badass!
Hehe more
That just made my day :)
*assistant TO THE regional manager.
20 year anniversary tour this year and I got tickets 😍😍😍

Who could give this a thumbs down?
This guys are just amazing! I love listening to them just jam ❤️
Oh man. It's great to see all the guys doing what they do best
I can't love this enough. Doug is the nicest rock god I've ever met, next to Jason Isbell.
who is the one doink that "thumbs down'd" this fantastical song?! C'mon......
Anyone rocking a Vonnegut shirt is a total beauty
Cada vez que la escucho explota mi mente, a mejor banda de rock...
“we’re done when i say we’re done”
Doug is in 100 best guitarists of all time according to Rolling Stone! No wonder!! And yet no one knows this loud, silent legend!!!
Simply amazing
Brutaaal!! Temazo
I keep coming back to hear how the guitar harmonises with the lyric 'mirrors of apprehension'.
So good. Bring back the extra guitars!!
Greatest band ever. Every member is tight.
I demand compensation for the fact that my face is now just a puddle on the floor in front of me.
And someone help me find my socks!
"una más" y se mandan una versión de casi 18 minutos... Más bandas así por favor!!!
Didn't knew that Ricardo Montolivo was also the drummer of this fucking awesome band.
Love it ! he could be considered the montolivo of drumming too. not flashy. hard working. consistent and always on time. the heartbeat of the team
I will see him live in August 2021 in Milwaukee.
How was it?
Supersession!
Look at the audience digging it! People are like, "Hoy Shit! ". I know that was my response when I heard them play this
extraordinaire
All the young hipster kids, getting schooled by the old dudes on how to rock right.
Justin Bogenschutz these guys kill it every time. Word.

Derivative? From who, the Pixies? Give me a break.
Chris Getliffe What a clown 🤡

..epic....
Kurt Vonnegut, grandi,
Doug needs to teach me play/sing/write
this is such a fucking chune.
Neil Young aproves
Carrie Underwood seems to really like this song.
And Janis is singing along.
+Jennifer Wilz Merle is not impressed.
? See the grinning poster behind the band.
I can’t believe this is even real.
boy the ads really destroyed the experience of this performance. ya gotta be kidding me
Every band member replaced except the slide guitar. No substitute.
The slide guitarist would be the easiest to replace.
@@robkolakowski3692 point of the band. only doug stays.
Rolon
Great drummer! Who is that??
Scott Plouf

Doug’s sweat makes a circle that looks like a sombrero and starts looking like zapata
Holy shit...stop it at 6:19...its a bunch of kids in the front that have to be wondering what the hell all this is about!
no need for 3 guitarist, drowning out
Doug Martsch looks a lot like Krist Noveselic. I'm sure I'm not the first to make this observation.
You probably are because he looks nothing like him.
I was just thinking the same thing the other day! And even more so than looking like him, his voice sounds IDENTICAL to Krist’s voice! Listen to interviews with Doug- their voices are 100% the same.
