First loading bar is the download, then you get another one for installing the update and once you start the game you get another loading bar where it has to configure the update according to your settings. Now that you are finally in the game after 4 hours of a "quick" update you try to find a game only to have to download more shit from the server because all servers now have custom settings that you don't have.
While the video made me chuckle, pretty much what I thought. Been playing games for 25 or so years, and never had to deal with all the toxic garbage hassle of the game industry because I pretty much stick to singleplayer/couch coop/couch vs. games which are nearly impossible to push all that garbage onto that's infesting the modern dumpsterfires.
This right here is why I don't do modern games. Even ones from a decade ago required a bunch of updating, which made me wonder why we've even got a disc when most of the game is updates. At least in olden times the entire game was on a cartridge or disc.

I love atari, you could play a game for 15 minutes and walk away pleased. Modern games demand a level of interaction from you that's just impractical. It's absurd, and I'm surprised it isn't seen as insulting. River Raid, moon patrol, miner 2049er, flogger, breakout were some of my preferred quick plays. Even if you played a game for hours (mario 3, or even any later mario) it isn't so taxiing that you feel like you're trading life for it, nor do you feel obligated to do so. Seeing this video, I was like "oh god,, its really this bad, isn't it?"
You forgot the fact that after the update gets downloaded it also has to install the update, causing the 3h 21m to become 4h 32m without warning you. Plus the fact that sometimes there's a warning box between the download and the installation that you have to click on, so when you start the download and leave for 5h, when you come back you click on that and there's still another hour of waiting.

Any time I leave an RPG for a month or longer, I've completely forgotten everything. I don't know where I'm going, what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, what my character build is, what key items I'm meant to take where, honestly how often this happens is crazy.
And this is why I have hundreds of hours in Witcher 3, Skyrim, Cyberpunk, etc... But have never beaten them. Every time i come back after a months (or years) long hiatus: "welp guess i need to start over..."
This encapsulates my Fallout 4 experience. Damn near 5 years and I still haven't beaten my first playthrough. On the other hand I've beaten all three games of Dragon Age nearly 6 times, currently playing 6th playthrough of Inquisition, and on 4th playthrough of Mass Effect, excluding Andromeda.
This is why I pretty much exclusively play emulated old pokemon games at this point. Just check how many badges I have, Google where the next gym is and I'm on my way. I don't even want to know how many games I've put 10-20 hours into over a week or two and then have no idea what the game even is 2-3 months later when I come back and give up. I've also been going back and forth between high gold/low plat in Rocket League for 3 years, so there's that.
Prototype 2 actually had a great boot up mechanic. On the main menu, you'd actually be overlooking a part of the map, and when you hit continue it would zoom and to Sgt. Heler (the player character). Or wouldn't be right where you left off, instead, the game would be fresh when you continued. It was really easy to pick up that game after not playing for a while, everything was well organized, despite being open world.
For me I have that when I reload a 4X save and try to remember what on Earth I was trying to achieve last time and exactly where any of my units are deployed and WHY I put them there to begin with.
The only thing missing from this video is the fact that there’s a huge wait to download the update… and then there’s the even longer wait to INSTALL the update
One time, I opened up Steam on an older crappy laptop I owned to play Undertale, which I hadn’t played for awhile, and Steam needed to do some updates on it. It told me “Updating Undertale. Ready to launch in approximately: more than 1 year.”
Another amazing video. I totally relate to this and why I love old school games where you play with the person sitting next to you and there's no connectivity issue or updates that you have to download and then install.

I don't think online games are necessary bad. I have a Switch so I mostly play single player games that do have online as a feature (Such as Mario kart or Super smash bros) but I do understand because I do have fall guys and everything is hard to get, I once spent most of a sunday playing fall guys and I still barely got anything, I think in these online multiplayer games they need to make it easy to unlock stuff.

Something that happens to me a lot is that suddenly I feel motivated to play a game I haven't played in over a year and when I come back there's this !massive update and right at that moment...I lose motivation again and stop the update and go back to play whatever I have been playing recently

I know this feeling so well! I’ve had so many on and off seasons that I’ve come to know what to expect at this point. The one BIG part you left out for shooter games(once they finally finish loading) is when you get into player vs player, which you used to be great at and still have the technical skills for, but you have no idea what weapons to use because the meta has been changed like thirty times since you left. As a destiny player, when you try to look up builds to see what the meta is, they often rely on mods you don’t have, so you just have to get stomped for several rounds and play close attention to what guns other people are using and then use those same guns yourself, at which point you find out if those people stomped you because the guns were actually meta or if it was just because they’re way better than you. Rinse repeat, rinse repeat. Pain.
I understand because when I downloaded Gotham Knights on Friday the last time I played my ps5 was the quarry in June. I had to update my ps5, controller, a update for dying light 2, horzion forbidden west, Gotham Knights and the first update on Gotham Knights.
The guy connecting after 30 minutes of matchmaking only to leave was too real.

Used to be able to read for hours, now it’s like my brain is too picky and something has to be really gripping to grab me. The last one that did is the two Margaret Atwood books (Handmaids Tale and the Testaments) and I read them back in 2020. I even have an $80 Kindle and ebooks I can get from libraries.

Any time I leave an RPG for a month or longer, I've completely forgotten everything.
I don't know where I'm going, what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, what my character build is, what key items I'm meant to take where, honestly how often this happens is crazy.
And this is why I have hundreds of hours in Witcher 3, Skyrim, Cyberpunk, etc... But have never beaten them. Every time i come back after a months (or years) long hiatus: "welp guess i need to start over..."
This encapsulates my Fallout 4 experience. Damn near 5 years and I still haven't beaten my first playthrough. On the other hand I've beaten all three games of Dragon Age nearly 6 times, currently playing 6th playthrough of Inquisition, and on 4th playthrough of Mass Effect, excluding Andromeda.
This is why I pretty much exclusively play emulated old pokemon games at this point. Just check how many badges I have, Google where the next gym is and I'm on my way.
I don't even want to know how many games I've put 10-20 hours into over a week or two and then have no idea what the game even is 2-3 months later when I come back and give up.
I've also been going back and forth between high gold/low plat in Rocket League for 3 years, so there's that.
Prototype 2 actually had a great boot up mechanic. On the main menu, you'd actually be overlooking a part of the map, and when you hit continue it would zoom and to Sgt. Heler (the player character).
Or wouldn't be right where you left off, instead, the game would be fresh when you continued. It was really easy to pick up that game after not playing for a while, everything was well organized, despite being open world.
For me I have that when I reload a 4X save and try to remember what on Earth I was trying to achieve last time and exactly where any of my units are deployed and WHY I put them there to begin with.
I swear, Ryan has the best comedic timing ever. He makes it look super easy, barely an inconvenience. Lol. Dude is just freakin stupid talented.

One time, I opened up Steam on an older crappy laptop I owned to play Undertale, which I hadn’t played for awhile, and Steam needed to do some updates on it. It told me “Updating Undertale. Ready to launch in approximately: more than 1 year.”

Remember the old days where you just literally flicked a button mid game? Whenever I pick up an old game and it comes time to turn it off I get a bit confused, like, isn't there something I'm supposed to do, like exit the game, go to a menu to turn off or something, but no, just save your game and press the power button.

I was going to say the same thing. Only problem with them is if I'm jumping in to play something for 30 minutes real quick after I long time I usually go into a single-player story game... and realise I've completely forgotten what was going on in the plot.

I don't think online games are necessary bad. I have a Switch so I mostly play single player games that do have online as a feature (Such as Mario kart or Super smash bros) but I do understand because I do have fall guys and everything is hard to get, I once spent most of a sunday playing fall guys and I still barely got anything, I think in these online multiplayer games they need to make it easy to unlock stuff.

@@ryans756 I'd much rather have the newer consoles with the connectivity than the older ones. It's not much more complicated. You put the disc in and the game you put in jumps to the front of the home screen. You hit X and you play it.

I honestly can't remember a game crashing, and I went from an Atari to a Sega to a Nintendo, well, numerous Nintendos, PS1, PS2. I refuse to pay for DLC, season passes, always-online devices, etc. and that's why my last console is an Xbox 360. Still going strong, although the CD tray gets stuck sometimes.
If I buy a game, I want the whole game. Not a download code. Not a beta version. Not a game that comes with 3/4 of it as paid DLC or worse, "DLC" that's on the disc itself.

I was actually hoping that this would be about those intrusive Windows updates. Even when I schedule them for a particular date and time, they happen totally randomly, like in the middle of a shift where I'm working remotely.
Easy to disable either using a group policy edit or a registry change. I haven't updated my desktop in over two years (windows 10).

I know this feeling so well! I’ve had so many on and off seasons that I’ve come to know what to expect at this point. The one BIG part you left out for shooter games(once they finally finish loading) is when you get into player vs player, which you used to be great at and still have the technical skills for, but you have no idea what weapons to use because the meta has been changed like thirty times since you left. As a destiny player, when you try to look up builds to see what the meta is, they often rely on mods you don’t have, so you just have to get stomped for several rounds and play close attention to what guns other people are using and then use those same guns yourself, at which point you find out if those people stomped you because the guns were actually meta or if it was just because they’re way better than you. Rinse repeat, rinse repeat. Pain.
So basically Tom Cruise for the first hour or so in "Edge of Tomorrow".
This is why I don't play pvp in Destiny. If i wanna play a pvp game, I'll go play Evolve.

I understand because when I downloaded Gotham Knights on Friday the last time I played my ps5 was the quarry in June. I had to update my ps5, controller, a update for dying light 2, horzion forbidden west, Gotham Knights and the first update on Gotham Knights.
My console started switching off by itself last night...never had it before.
