Love this, thank you! Your little bundle of joy is so precious. Have you ever done a video about hard water? I'm trying to find products that could help that aren't full of chemicals, but I'm struggling. I'd love to know your thoughts.

I don't know where the problem originated or if it's still a thing. However, I threw out the Deva Curl and will now eliminate plastic from my environment. I just ordered OWAY products from your link. I sure hope it will work for me.

Love the no blank wall idea! Plastics can definitely leach chemicals but I've always thought as a chemist the idea a fellow curly girl who is a chemist too came up with on her RUclips channel could be or also be the cause of the Devacurl problems. She suggested that the source of Devacul's ingredients changed and new ones had low or trace levels of contaminants that caused chemical reactions in the bottles, slowly, so they may have seemed. OK when leaving the manufacturer but didn't stay the same with time/storage/temperature fluctuations.
Here in Australia for pharmaceuticals our Therapeutic Goods Administration makes a company go through the long detailed approval process from scratch if the source of any ingredient or exipient (active or non-active) changes but that doesn't happen with things like hair products here either. I only became aware of this last year when a pharmaceutical product (a cream) made here in Australia that I use was off the market for nearly a year as the supplier of a minor non-active ingredient had their business burn down in the huge bushfires of the 2019-2020 Summer.
The small pharmaceutical company expected it to be approved soon/a quick process but they kept having to have this product modified then resubmitted for testing over and over again so it wasn't approved and able to into production then sold again until November 2020 having been off the market all year. I suspect they went through quite a few different new sources of the ingredient in their formulation until they found a supplier with an acceptable product (contaminant-wise). It made me realise there was a good reason for this - different source, different potential trace contaminants that could cause problems. So that theory about Devacurl does make a lot of sense as hair products aren't controlled like pharmaceuticals. What do you think?
As for future content - any tips for fine curly hair, especially if it's not particularly long (e,g. mine is a little above shoulder length and barely grows now), is low density so need to maximise volume/prevent see through hair and scalp show through.
Thanks for your channel - like your straight forward approach. Loved seeing your baby's face peeking out - so cute. 😀

I definitely think the theory you shared is possible! I think what people fail to realize about my theory is that no matter whether it is what happened with DevaCurl specifically or not, all research indicates that plastics could make our products toxic to us and we wouldn’t even know it. So whether it is what happened with DevaCurl - there is no way to ensure you won’t be poisoned by the chemicals in plastic packaging unless you just don’t use products that come in plastic packaging.
As for the video suggestion - noted!

@@StephanieMero I agree with you about needing to be careful with plastics, and some kinds are far worse in regard to leaching chemicals than others, I'mvery wary of plastics myself. The worst kinds of plastics are cheaper of course so Devacurl might have changed bottle plastic too to save money but making leaching worse. The nature of contents can affect leaching too.
I think the problem may well have been both issues - and any chemical reactions going on in the bottles would just make leaching even worse, especially the kind of reactions resulting in the products straightening hair and damaging the scalp.
Thanks for your reply - look forward to your future videos. Love the way there's no hype, just straight forward advice. 😀

So, you normally combine some sort of cream / pomade styler underneath a gel styler. Is that correct? I live in San Diego California so our humidity ranges between 30% - 80% depending on the season. I am not sure what counts as a temperate climate, a dry climate, or a humid climate if you wouldn't mind giving some percent ranges?

So crazy that you said petroleum....I swear for a while now my tea tree conditioner is smelling like that. My friend suggested I was just getting desensitized to the fragrance but I have also noticed more hair fall damage ect
