Colorado hair hear, I have to spritz a moisturizer and do a light oil twice a day. I live in my bonnet, and rely on hats and head wraps because the UV rating here is so high. The Sun can be so damaging all by itself.
omg i need this video, i live in las vegas and have high porosity hair, it’s drier than a tumbleweed! nothing works i feel like lol! i’m still trying to figure out what works with my hair, i don’t even listen to hair gurus anymore cause we’re clearly different... lol

THANK YOU!!!!! I especially want to thank you for not only reading the comments but paying attention because I know this was a requested video. I don’t really have a lot of info for natural hair despite living in Phoenix for the past 7 years. After moving from Chicago I definitely tripled my water intake. My skin and hair were constantly thirsty. I also take a flaxseed capsule twice daily AND take a tablespoon of flaxseeds daily. Fortunately I have a gigantic aloe vera plant in my side yard so I’m able to make my own aloe hair moisturizing spray and do aloe pre poo. Thank you for all the information.
So glad I saw this video. I only use gels that are botanical. I don’t always use a leave-in but when I do they have oils and butters. I already use products that are going to work when I take my trip to Vegas. I’m so glad that I don’t have to buy special products. Yes Black girls run 🏃🏾♀️ TFS
When I first moved to Los Angeles (desert and marine later!) from NYC 30 years ago, my hair & skin were dry, until I learned how to adjust my care. This past June/July in NYC it was really hot and my hair was wrecked by the heat until I could buy full size (>3 oz... thank you, TSA 😠) of product to keep my hair moist.

I live in Northern California, a dry and low humidity climate that I love ! Several times during the week I “greenhouse” my hair at night by spraying it with just water, covering it with a plastic conditioning/shower cap. When I remove the cap in the morning, my hair is wet but very moisturized. I let it dry naturally or use my blow dryer with the diffuser.
Below is the list of my holy grail products.
1. Pre Poo = SheaMoisture Purification Mask (the original formula that contains Kaolin Clay (yes, I have a stash))
2. Shampoo = Giovanni Smooth As Silk Shampoo or no poo = Giovanni Smooth As Silk Conditioner
3. Deep Conditioner = Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Smoothie
3. Leave in conditioner = Kinky Curly Knot Today or Giovanni Direct Leave In
4. Styler = Kinky Curly Curling Custard
Be careful when covering damp/wet hair and sleeping, that's a good way to create mold and mildew on your scalp and hair.
@@dowensrich Thanks, but I have been doing this for ten years and I never had a problem with it causing mold and mildew. The "greenhouse" revitalizes my curls and I dry my hair completely after I remove the shower/conditioning cap.
After living most of my life in and around Houston with constant humidity, I now live in Colorado. I've been here for a few months and I'm still adjusting and learning how to care for my wavy 2a/2b hair in this climate! Thanks for the info and tips in this video!! 🙌💜
I currently live in Arizona in the valley. So I have to deal with very hard water, over 101 degrees + dry heat and no humidity except for the 1-2 weeks(or 3 days..) of monsoon season. So I have been feeling you pain for years. I am so glad you talked about the different types of humectants and what to stay away from. Thank you for making this video😍

Great video! I learned about caring for hair based on the season/weather/dew point a few months ago and it changed my hair care. It was like a light bulb moment. I change the products I use based on the changing conditions and I swear it has helped a lot! I'm in California, where it's hot with a dew point that is currently high. I changed products and my hair has remained moisturized longer between my weekly washes. I'm looking forward to the dry climate and low dew point so I can use different products and see how it affects my hair. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you for the suggestions I will be moving to Colorado in the summer after the pandemic clears. My boyfriend said it's dry climate🤦🏾♀️. Now i will have to figure out how to care for my hair.
Newly natural & still figuring out my haircare routine. I stay in Pretoria, SA where humidity is low & dew points below 10, so its been a bit of a struggle...big thanks for these tips, will try & find products to combat lack of moisture!
So helpful! I always think to cut the glycerin in the winter and pretty much all year around but never paid attention to the propylene glycol. I will definitely double the occlusives for my wonderful Canadian winter 😒🙄

Low humidity is normal in LA. In autumn the air is so dry it causes bushfires. I use a warm mist humidifier which works wonders for both my skin and hair. This is a really good video!❤

The first time I visited Colorado, I was based there for work. I’m relieved to know that I’m not crazy for noticing a major change in my hair and skin; I didn’t realize how dry Denver is! Now that I’m here for a whole summer, this video helped me know that I’m on the right track by wetting my hair more often. Thank you so much for this video!

OMG I took my hair out of a 3 month protective style and I was so excited to wear my hair out. I mixed honey into my shea butter and in winter that worked well but now that it's summer I dunno. For the past week my hair felt... Papery lol came to a head yesterday when I was trying to do a hot oil treatment (y'know to counter the dryness...) and my hair just felt ugh, dry, brittle, IMPOSSIBLE. I got super impatient and ended up breaking quite a bit off smh but I'm definitely not using the shea butter in excess anymore and I'm re-incorporating leave-in conditioner (because for a while I'd stopped using it). Anyway thank you so much for these tips. I came to RUclips sprinting and in desperate need of answers. This is the first I watched and I'm satisfied❤️
Thanks for this very informative video. I moved from one of the most humid equatorial regions in the world to Europe and my hair and skin were in shambles. My skin was cracking so bad, I had to use petroleum jelly and my hair was like straw.
Recently moved from NJ (humid summers) to dry ass, hard water having LA. 8

It’s a “no” from me dog for NOT using glycerin based products here in Vegas where there’s little to no humidity practically all year long. While glycerin IS water loving, you don’t need much moisture to activate it. Hell, a daily shower is enough. It lasts in my hair for at least 3 days. Lustersilk Curl Activator in the blue and white bottle grew my hair out and so far, is the only thing that works for me without leaving a buildup. It’s first two ingredients are water and glycerin.
Help...how do I choose the right thing? And what is the steps to adding in these items.

was wondering...I make my flax gel with aloe and I add a good bit of rosehip oil...would this count as an occlusive with a film forming humectant, or do they need to put in the hair in layers? I love the flax gel in my desert climate.

Nashville weather is sooo🤬 moisture levels of my hair can go from no moisture to moisture over load i never know what's going to happen low porosity hair and that kind of weather im almost at the end of my rope trying to find leave ins and styling products😭😭😭......PLEASE HELP ME.....ok rant over😜
