Love you cardigan, Alex! Whilst TABT patterns are a bit "young" for me, I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Tilly. I think the tips and techniques are helpful and love that she provides instructions for "making it your own". Love the enthusiasm for sewing her books generate and believe they provide good value for money spent. I've watched many vloggers learn to sew with Tilly's books and patterns.
Thank you Laura ♥️ I'm not always in love with the patterns themselves (which is normal, we are allowed to like whatever we like, we are unique and should stay that way) but I like the fact Tilly encourages people to be brave, change the patterns and have fun. And her techniques are always interesting (even if I often decide to do things my way 😉 ) x
I love your enthusiasm and what you say about supporting small business is so valid.
Thank you Sue ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you Ginger for taken the time to show this book. Your talk on supporting the small designers hit home to me as a very valid point ..... which I never gave much thought about. Good on you. 🐶
Thank you 😀 I think sometimes it's easy to forget that independent designers have to try much harder than big companies to survive - they rely on the customers only (and I like TATB so I want them to do well and grow 😀) x
I love also the books of Tilly. 🥰
They're great value for money 😁 I keep using the patterns from (especially the Frankie tee from Stretch) ♥️
Thanks for the review Alex. Loving the cardi 😁
Thank you ♥️♥️♥️ I'll be making plenty of the cardigans (very much my perfect cardi 🤣) x
I love your Bertha cardigan 😁 x
Thank you ♥️♥️♥️
I bought this lovely book a couple of weeks ago and have since bought the other two. I’ve already made the Safiya dungarees and am making the Olive pinafore for my mum. I’m new to sewing after a break of many years and got a new sewing machine, now I’m in a quandary as to whether I need an overlocker - especially as I now want to make the Bertha cardigan after watching your video! Thanks for your lovely channel!
Thank you 😀 my favourite Tilly's book is probably Stretch but I like them all 😀 I'm sure you're going to enjoy all your makes, Tilly's instructions are great 😊 You don't actually need an overlocker to sew knits (but I love machines, so I'm never going to discourage anyone from getting an overlocker 😉)×
Hi! I like sticking patterns too I find that relaxing, very nice cardigan and a good choice for the Olive pinafore, I personally won't buy it but I really like that she caters for young sewists! Have a wonderful day Alex. Christine
Thank you Christine ♥️ it's been a long time since I fitted into "young" anything 🤣🤣🤣 but I like Tilly (and yes, I agree she's appealing to a younger audience) have a lovely day, too xxx
I love this book. I Pre ordered it on Amazon when it was priced at £17. But when I paid for it it was £14.89. I think this is my favourite of all 3 books. I also got the Juno pjs and Tabitha tshirt in the Love Sewing magazine lol. I think the dungerees and pinafore are my favourites but I love everything xx
I think it's going to be at least as popular as Tilly's other books😀 I paid £17 for it (it was £20 when I pre-ordered it 🤣 I don't understand it all, but I'm always happy to pay less than I thought).
@@GingerheadCo Me neither lol. I'm glad she makes sewing cool xx
I don't have the book but really like the look of the Bertha cardigan. There are some nice patterns in there! Your cardigan looks fab!
Thank you Dani 😁 I will make hacks of some of the patterns (Tilly's patterns are perfect for hacks) so I definitely am very happy with the book. Tamlyn (sewn on the Tyne) has made a great Bertha - in some jersey from Lamazi (I think) - so you can make it as fun or as serious as you wish (I do love this pattern) x
Just waiting for the book in the post, I just bought it online and I’m in Italy, so looking forward to the Safiya trousers! I’m a beginner and attending a sewing course at the moment
Alex I totally agree. I love Tillys books. I started sewing with her books. I have the cardigan on my next to make list. I also love the cover dungarees for the summer xx
I think the dungarees are going to be popular 😁 I like the fact Tilly makes so many people sew - sewing should be fashionable again 😁 have fun sewing xxx
Collecting my signed copy from the Post Office tomorrow and I'm genuinely so excited about it 😊 Highlight of my week! I've already bought some Tilly Organic fabric for the Tabitha t-shirt, and ribbing for the Pyjamas (my first time using ribbing!). I really like what you said about supporting independent. *Every purchase you make is a vote* is how I think of it.
Yay! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time devouring the book and making all the things 😁 and I couldn't agree more: we vote with our money 😁 x
Thanks for sharing :) I am tempted to buy the book now :)
Well, I like it 😁 the makes are simple, so it's probably not for everyone, but I like Tilly and her way of encouraging people to sew 😊 thank you for watching x
You are very enthusiastic 🥰. Looking forward to seeing what you see next 👌
I think you'll be seeing a few more makes from this book very soon 😁😁😁♥️x
Hi Alex, I must have been living under a rock... I didn't know that you had a you tube channel 😉😁. I'm a new subscriber and I'll have to go back to look at your earlier videos 👌. I love Tilly's design too and I think she has done wonders for the sewing community. I love the cardigan and so easy to wear 💖. I have Tilly's Stretch book but I haven't got the new one yet but it's on my list 👍😁💖😘
haha, I'm not famous 🤣 I've had the vlog for 6 months and I'm still rather crap at it, but it's more of a personal challenge (I'm not trying to be popular, I had an almost phobia-like camera shyness and I'm trying to get rid of that) I'm not a professional vlogger - I didn't even have editing software for the first few videos 🤣🤣🤣 but (as you might know) I have lots and lots of enhusiasm - so I compensate my lack of experience/knowledge/tools with my enthusiasm 🤣
@@GingerheadCo enthusiasm definitely counts for more than all that professional stuff as far as I'm concerned 👍😁😘
@@sallydingle321 😁😁😁
I am so excited about the book too Alex, I preordered from Tilly and so got it before release date and have also decided to do the cardigan first, just need to choose my fabrics 😊 Great video as always, thanks for sharing x
Thank you Helen - the Bertha is going to be my favourite pattern I think (I've already made another one!), but all the patterns look good (I'm glad I'm not the only excitable sewist here!) xxx
I started sewing with Tilly books, I blame her for all the money Ive spent on sewing over the years lol, then I lost interest due to lack of size inclusivity but I have regained interest since sewing Indigo. I am tempted to buy the book but am waiting for the hoohar to die down first... I do like that pinafore dress but not sure it would suit me. x
There will be lots of makes from the book on Instagram soon, so you will know if you like the patterns (I like seeing things on various bodies, made by people with various skill levels- and less professional photos). I like the fact they are expanding the size range a bit - I hope it will be financially viable for them to add even more sizes. I think you'd look good in the pinafore (with a floaty bell sleeved blouse for a romantic look or a simple top for a more casual one 😉) x
I love the new book and am a staunch indie pattern fan! I am just finishing off the Safyia Pants (I love wide legged pants 😂😂) I did download the PDF so if you want to DM me I will tell you how) but I did find fitting them for me a bit of a challenge around the crotch depth and rise. Thank goodness for my pants block, which really helped. I have the PDF for the Tabitha which I will make next, although I may divert to the Bertha.....🤣🤣❤️ which looks great on you btw 😍😍
Thank you Lynne ♥️♥️♥️ and I'll investigate further how to download the pdf versions (I haven't had the time to read the book properly, I hope it's there) but I might message you for help 🤣🤣🤣 xxx
Gingerhead & Co check page 9 and follow the link 👍😁
@@lynneprentice4278 will do ♥️ thank you very much Lynne ♥️♥️♥️
I haven’t bought any of her books but have bought separate patterns from her. I’m not sure if I would want to make many patterns from a single book so prefer to buy specific ones.
I can totally understand that (I don't usually like patterns in bundles, even if they are cheaper) but I love books - and I tend to use them a lot (probably just because they are books 🤣) I might just be a book fetishist!🤣
Im in the us so i am going to buy the book!! Hoping sizing is similar
I hope you like it 😁 there are both the body measurments and the finished garment ones given for each pattern (in centimetres and inches) so it's easier to pick the right size 😁
I might just have to get this book. Amazon is around 33 dollars plus some change here in the us. Great video as always Alex. xxx
Thank you Michelle ♥️ the patterns are very simple but the book has lots of useful tips and techniques- and I like Tilly's approach to sewing in general 😁x
📙💯
😃 I want the book but it $50 Canadian here and not even out yet... oh well maybe one day lol... great make it's beautiful
Thank you 😁 hopefully the book will gets cheaper (and widely available!) in Canada soon 😳
Hi Alex!! I don’t have any of Tilly’s books.. Unfortunately, reason being I’m plus size & she doesn’t do size inclusivity!!!! Otherwise, I think her books would be awesome to start sewing with & she seems to give great instructions..
💜💜🧵🧵
She has started expanding the size range (so far she's only gone up to size 24 UK- I think it's size 20 in the US: 48 inch bust, 42 inch waist and 51 inch hip) so maybe she'll expand even further soon. The patterns are definitely fun and easy to make so hopefully there will be more sizes in the future 😁x
Hi, I have just bought this book and straight away decided to sew the Bertha. What fabric did you use and where from ? Xx
For this one I used medium weight knit from Coalville (it's a group on Facebook) but I also made a few more (there's a video with 3 more Bertha cardigans ), most moderately stretchy fabric will be fine (double knit, ponte, French terry - I also used jersey that is heat modified and a double layered jersey )
@@GingerheadCo thanks so much for this. I am a beginner sewer and was wondering actually if I could get away with a French Terry. So far I have made a pinafore from Tilly and some stretch tops. I am no where near you in experience so appreciate your reply and advise xx
@@rebeccapearson2155 thank you 😊 Tilly's books are great to start sewing, she explains things really well 😀 French terry is definitely going to work, just make sure you use the French terry with some spandex (it's usually 5% spandex and the rest cotton) because there are some that are 100% cotton (or polyester) and they don't stretch much. Good luck with your Bertha, I hope you love yours 😀
I really love that you support her! I just got a book from our local Swedish stars. @thelaststitch her youtube channel The Last Stitch. If you gonna sew workout clothing she is the one =) Sure she ship to Uk! shop.thelaststitch.com/collections/books thank you for sharing tips and tricks so now i may get the book =) Sending you 40 hugs from southern Sweden 🤩
I love Johanna, her vlogs and books are very informative, she was my first source of information when I bought my first coverstitch (and sorry for the delay in replying, RUclips has hidden your comment!) x
