thankyou for ths video. ive just recently brought this book as i wanted to learn how to make my own clothes. i love the mimi blouse but haven't made anything to wear yet. only zipper pouches hahah. i have all the things i need but i was to scare to even start but you have inspired me to jump right in. i also love the fabric shop you mentioned such beautiful fabrics so thank yo for that too. and thank you for showing us what you made you've done a fab job. i know you said you didn't like the mimi blouse on yourself but i think it looks lovely. I'm so glad i came across your channel.
Loved this! I've had the book for years and have only made two things from it which is the Margot PJ's - which I love and make repeatedly, but I add elastic to the waist and the Delphine skirt. You've reminded me of the other patterns in there that I'd like to make. Aww it's a shame you don't like the blouse as I think it looks lovely on you xx
Thanks Karen, it is a shame I don't like the blouse but never mind. I am definitely going to insert elastic into my pjs so I wear them. Thank you for watching.
I think Tilly has been fantastic for beginners. I think her Estimate set was very poorly thought out. I think she has possibly exhausted the “ very simple beginner” styles. The Esti felt very rushed to me. But, I think she still has lots of potential. She could make more difficult patterns still with her signature “ hand holding” style. I think she has done a lot to introduce sewing to a new generation of sewers. I’m looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next. I enjoyed your review of her book.
The dress you are wearing is lovely 🥰. I started my sewing journey with that book and it was just perfect. My first ever make was the PJ bottoms but I new nothing about pattern matching/Grainline and I had an unfortunately placed upside down heart in my crotch area 😂😂😂. The second make was the Delphine skirt in almost identical fabric to the cover picture. I wore it to work and took a spare skirt as I was convinced it would fall apart during the day - but it’s still going strong 😊
I just found you after a recommendation from Geet Petite. You did a great review of the TATB book. As a very experienced sewist I don't think this is the book for me. I think my favourite pattern you reviewed is the blouse. It really is beautiful and looks great on you.
Welcome aboard! Glad you found me. Everyone keeps saying that about the blouse, maybe I will grow to love it. It really is a beginners book and is great for newbies x
I made a few items from this book early in my sewing too. I added elastic to the waist of the Margo pj’s and found it worked well. I’ve still got them (they must be around 5-7 years old now 😮!) the elastic is finally looking a bit sad and tired and I really should replace it, but the bottoms themselves are made of brushed cotton (flannel) and have just got softer and softer with age 😍 Like you I’ve found Tilly (and all her other books/patterns) to be brilliant for beginners and would still recommend them for that. Unfortunately my taste/style has changed and I also found that the shape of her skirts and bottoms just didn’t suit me along with the finished garment length. One of the things I’ve learnt that although I LIKED her pattern (style) I either wouldn’t actually wear it or it didn’t suit me….a shame but that’s part of the learning process 😉😁
I am going definitely put the elastic is the Pj's and think I would love to make some for next winter in brushed cotton they would be so cosy. I totally agree, part of your sewing journey is learning what you do and don't like style wise. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts x
Thank you for such a detailed review! Loved your makes too💕 please may I ask where you did your dressmaking course? (Your accent sounds close to me!) X
Thank you so much , glad you found it useful. I went to sewconfident in Birmingham its closed down now - due to Covid and clean air zone impacting the business. Where abouts are you - I do all my course at Oh sew crafty in Leicester now x

WOW you quickly made up the dress you are wearing…..looks lovely
It was a very quick sew carol, especially with the overlocker. X
A fabulous review of the Love at First Stitch book. I have it but haven't made anything out of it yet - you've tempted me to try some of the patterns.
You should give it a try and I am very glad you enjoyed it - its my first review so I am sure I will get better as I do more. Thanks for watching x
