03 - Six O'Clock 8:42
04 - Gravity Grave 13:24
Its 2023, are there any bands out there that sound remotely like Verve at the height of their creative powers?!?!?
A blistering version of Six O'Clock. One of their best.
Gravity Grave is a trip out with headphones regular job lol
1992/1993 was a great year for music, I was into my Drum & Bass and Hardcore but we listened to the Verve etc and other indie bands having a smoke etc.. usually after coming down from some untested new acid tab lol Oh how i wish i could go back
1992 was an incredible year, great albums by Primal Scream, Kitchens of Distinction and Sugar that year.
That era had great Indie, rave, d&b, early jungle, grunge etc. You didn't know where to hide from it all!
This is also the best version of Gravity Grave ever made (last tune), It is nothing short of EPIC
One of the best performances I've ever heard. Possibly the complete band. Vocals and rhythm section nailed it
I could fall asleep to a Man called Sun, its so soothing here
This gravity grave is epic even without a Iive audience. McCabe is in another dimension.
The master of shoegazenoise...
Nick McCabe creates soundscapes and textures never reached by other guitar players….He gives me chills. True genius.
@@hundenstihlhave you heard of Rob Marshall from exit calm?
@@northern_lights9333 Rob Marshall is a brilliant guitarist. Loved Exit Calm and their albums are superb. Should really have been bigger and almost taken over Verve's mantle in the 2010s.
@@northern_lights9333 I have not. I will check him out.
Shame this is the only album they have this celestial shoegazey feel. Hands down best verve or Ashcroft album.. absolutely astonishing album of music
Storm in heaven is the closest to this
Indeed. That’s why Nick McCabe was never really happy or fully connected after their debut masterpiece plus all the stuff other fab bits and bobs on No Come Down and their first EP. A Northern Soul isn’t a bad album but you can already tell its not a Verve album in various ways, as it’s definitely far more of a Richard influenced album. Lyrically brilliant and various flashes of Nick’s magic but it’s lost the fire and spirit all their early stuff has. Life’s an Ocean is beautiful, they are other excellent songs but the the fact Brainstorm Interlude is really the only song to embrace their perfect blend of hazy, psychedelia tinged emotive music to blow your mind like it’s so sad to suspect it was only put on to appease Nick plus the fact it’s an Instrumental is a probably a major clue to what lay further down the road. Ah well, be thankful for what we have i guess!! ❤️

@@Dan76Rock you're a mental escapee if you don't consider Rolling People, Come On, Stormy Clouds, Judas, Forth, Appalachian Springs, Life's An Ocean the top of your Verve list.
Gravity Grave and their earlier work was great, but come on...
I remember thinking they would take over the world when I first heard this all those years ago on Radio 1. What a moment in time!
The Verve needs to come back
Fifth? nah man
All brilliant live renditions, as they always were in 92-94, but Gravity Grave as good as it is it’s nowhere even close to the Glastonbury 94 unbelievably passion filled them at their absolute peak. Just Richard’s angst filled ‘1 minute, 1 minute’ screams near the end of the track are pure gold 😲❤️
Agreed I've been searching for 25 years for a better version, there isn't one.
I heard this when it was broadcast, taped it and listened and listened. Great to hear it again. Loved Hit the North. You know I did. I really did.
I was there too...
There was an amazing Spiritualized session on Hit The North too if I remember
How do these Radio 1 sessions sound so amazing? Radcliffe, Peel, Goodlier, all these sessions sound insane!
This is outta control!
Nice🏴
great session
Nick Is amazing ! Genius
And never were they so good again...
Fantastic
What a treat, thanks
this is music..
Psychedelic as fuck. So good
how could richard NOT want to be in a band with mcabe ???
Tragedy! They were on fire 25 years ago. I remember listening to the evening session all those years ago...but grunge and shoegaze were holding court...25 years!!!
Ego
Got way too big for his boots but for me McCabe IS and always will be The Verve.
Nick McCabe has got a massive ego as well. He seems quiet and harmless but that isn't the case. He's extremely opinionated and always was. The press got the wrong end of the stick and Richard has always been the scape goat, Nick the helpless victim. Things get twisted (by the press) and facts get left out due to the fierce loyalty and secrecy within the band. All that said, McCabe is undoubtedly one of the best guitarists to ever live.
@@onespeeddan6803 "I think something of us as a band got lost after A Storm in Heaven... For the next ten years after that, that sensation was missing from the music for me. That was the last time we made that kind of landscape for the imagination to run about in." - Nick McCabe. He has a right to be opinionated when the music changes so dramatically. Even Simon Jones dislikes Richard! And the boys where keen to get back together in 2017, but Richard ignored them. Watched a BBC interview with him, and all he talks about is how amazing Bittersweet, Lucky Man and Sonnet are. He's happy pretending his former band mates don't exist. At least McCabe and Jones are happy in their own band now.
if this is from hit the north on bbc 5 back in the day i may have actually heard it when it was broadcast!
Music on a higher level 👀
fuckin amazing band !
They' been so many songs that are getting WTH the verve nd solo career
A Man Called Sun is absolutely biblical here. Better than the live version on the Gravity Grave single.
baldragonmods the 9:30 club version even better 🙂
_SIR McCabe 2018 !_
He’s too good for the stupid ‘sir’ title.
there's no way 21 min went so fast
Lástima que ya no sigan juntos, sin duda de haber dejado sus diferencias entre Ashcroft y McCabe seguirían tocando y para este año serían reconocidos globalmente.
YESSSSSSSSS
feck me,in light of aschrofts new single this sounds even more amazing
Wow...music from northern souls
