I don't know what LEGO was thinking with this set. It should've-like you suggest-kept the piece count but made the Durmstrang ship only. It *looks* amazing, but the interior and play features are deficient, so the piece counts from the Beauxbatons Carriage (BC) could've been used to make those aspects solid as well. For the BC, I don't mind a remake. I was thinking about getting this set, but passed on it, because I really only wanted to get the Fleur (and perhaps Gabrielle) LMFs. I'm going to do some research and if I find that the new Fleur LMF looks (almost) the same as the previous iteration, then I may get the standalone BC set instead.
The older one is better for play, and even though the newer one has a couple interior features, it is better for display, and I think wish it had less stickers and more prints. Both Krum and Karkaroff look better in the 2024 version than in 2005, although, and that’s to be expected with most minifigures.
Not many 2005 Durmstrang ships around...always wanted an upgrade new set to come out. .So will have to buy one. Looks good. Your very lucky owning 2005 set! 😊

Yeah those stickers were a nightmare to apply! I lucked out applying them (they're not crooked thankfully, though I normally mess up haha), regardless it seemed like there were far too many included in a build this size :(

Yup, the figs were defo upgraded! Just wish the same happened for the boats themselves 😭😂
