- This video tackles the installation on a Miltek 3" Downpipe with decat. This is mated to a Miltek 2.75" Cat back system.
I see so many people making a massive deal out of this job, when it really doesn't need to be! also, if you follow this guide, and the cat studs and nuts don't want to come undone it can actually be removed whole if you've got the car jacked up high enough.
Don't be scared to remove the subframe, trust me it, it's the easiest way to remove the standard downpipe.
Also the dog bone mount bolts snapping is pretty common, so don't be surprised if this happens to you.
Enjoy!

Your videos have helped me figure out how to do some needed repairs on my mk1 tt. I appreciate it. This particular video has helped me decide that my stock down pipe is just fine. Looks like a pain!
I managed to do this without removing the subframe. You gotta cut the old one at the flex part by removing the driver side wheel (rhd)
Being in the driest state in the driest continent on Earth I’m hoping when the time comes to undo these problematic bolts I’ll be golden. And yes I’ll give them a good load of the notorious anti-seize. Having anti-seize on every item of my clothing is a badge of honour. 🤓🤜🏼🤛🏼🇦🇺🍀🍀🍀😎
I absolutely hated doing this install 😅 took me ages! Lots of swears and a bad back later and its done! Cheers for the detailed videos, huge help mate
Man you are literally the best Mk1 TT channel I’ve come across. Please please keep up the great work.
Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺🤜🏼🤛🏼😎🍀🍀🍀
I put the ebay one on this weekend for 150 quid fits nice after a bit of hammering on the heat shield 🤷♂️😅 haven't changed the dog mount Bush though so will definitely change that after this 👍 good video.
Hi mate, whats the size of the half moon wrench as I'm gonna attempt this soon, downpipe flex part is leaking. Gonna do timing belt at the same time. Cheers!
I fitted powerflex bushes to my dogbone a few years ago and it definitely stopped wheel hop in first and second but there is definitely some vibration on tickover or pulling away with low revs.
I've heard the superpro bushes are better for this. Have you experienced this in the past, bud.
More than 20 years ago I had the idea of a ratchet bolt system... that used wireless electrical energy(no wires). Alas at the time it was an impossibility. In 2020 with titanium 3d printing I’m not so sure.😎🤜🏼🤛🏼🤓🍀🍀🍀🇦🇺
I swapped mine on my LHD car and i found that the hole that the brake line goes through in the wheelwell lines right up with the bolts. I just took a bunch of long extensions through that hole and they came right out.
i will be doing this in a couple weeks. i am waiting for my 42 draft designs to arrive. thanks for the tutorial
hi again..lovjng your videos.
i still have not got to the bottom of the idle issue on my sisters car but thanks for the advice, she has another problem now also where the car overheats and a high temp warning on computer. I think the fans don't kick in but do when heater is on. Heaters dont get really hot just stay cool even on max temp settings, and water seems to hold any idea's help please.
or is there way you could help fix these issues if you allow that and are not too far, pay you as a mechanic? and a drink too as you seem very good at what you do.
Thanks
Thanks for the video, I studied it many times over the past several weeks and just got my downpipe out on my LHD car!! Did not need to disconnect prop shaft.
Yep on LHD you dont have the steering column or brake master to get in the way
does the downpipe mount to the turbo without any adapters? looking to get a 3 in downpipe and i just wanna know what i need
Hello mate, thanks for your videos, they are very helpful.
I've got problem with my air conditioning
I refil the gas, change the pressure valve sensor, but still doesn't cool enough. Do you have any solution for it or advise what should I focus on?
Thanks in advance
Hi pal , I have a s3 1.8t amk , I have been told there almost the same underneath, would you be interested in installing it for me , I can bring it to you if perfred thanks
good video buddy
great job and you are soo relax and talk soo smooth like Obama lol kidding , but I learn some of you!! I am going too take off K03 and change to a K04 , soo its going too be exited
I can’t find this down pipe what is it and where can I buy it
Hi, how long do you think it will take to do. I have a ramp at work. Thank you in advance
Allow a few hours
@@BWSTT half day full day. Just so I can say to the boss the ramp is mine for..........
@@paulodonnell106 half day tops
@@BWSTT thank you
Hi mate, can i book my qs240 with you for a de-cat to bee fitted?
Feck that’s the firstvtime I’ve seen a 225 exhaust(I do own one for weeks) Looks well made thing. Possibly has acute bends for a reason, in the sense the head is designed so it still performs no matter what the exhaust flows.
before and after sound just like a standard exhaust system,
if you want a deeper and a touch louder set-up just take off the rear silencer , job done and it cost's nothing,
Well, before and after definitely do sound different. In addition, that's a miltek system, so how does it sound standard? PLUS this wasn't done for noise, it was done for performance reasons, I just included the sound clips for reference
hey man so my audi tt won’t go into gear and stalls when it does get into gear like the clutch won’t disengage would it be a failing pressure plate?
What do you do for EML&MOT
The eml can be coded out with a remap, which is advisable since you e had a major hardware change. MOT requires a catalytic converter, so fit a sports cat if you want to pass an MOT
@@BWSTT would you say there's much difference between a sports cat and a decat performance / sound wise Bryn? Cheers for another helpful video.
@@HukeLussey sports cat isn't as raspy, but you can hear on the video the normal cats and decat aren't miles different
I know it's 2 years later, but is breaking the dogbone down required to install the DP?
Its not essential, but you want to reduce engine movement since the 3” pipe has a lot less clearance
is the process the same on a LHD???
Hey broski,
Quick Q
When u took the cats off they had a air sensor on them did this create a check engine light or effect the car to go into limp mode or any effects after doing this??
It will throw the eml on a wideband car, so needs coding
@@BWSTT thanks legend,
Is there a way u can self code or needs to be done professionally? If that makes sense,
Do u have a vid of u Doing it??
I could be wrong but I feel like there was quite a lot of unnecessary steps here, not questioning you more just constructive criticism and me partially dreading doing it
You can keep the subframe on but youll need to use a sawzall to chop the original into a few pieces. If you wand to take the subframe off you can get the downpipe and cats out together if it's jacked high enough. You can also keep the bulkhead heat shield on if you've got the right tools, but since a lot of people struggle I've laid it out in a fool proof way. Lots of people start the process and try and avoid the steps, and then struggle, this way makes it easiest
BWS TT Thanks a lot for your reply I appreciate it, one thing I never understood though was how come u can get the new pipe in but can’t get old pipe down without cutting it, I’m very weary to take the subframe off, no idea why just am
The 3" is a single section, the standard one splits into 2 2" pipes, meaning it can't pass the prop or subframe whole. The subframe removal is very simple, and makes this job a lot easier
Would this work with milltek 2.75 catback?
Yeah
Is your TT a Quattro 225 hps or front wheel drive?
The clue is when i have to unbolt the prop shaft, that drives the rear wheels ;)
I've the 180 bhp ARY engine. Is there a pipe for that?
There is, but they’re very hard to get hold of at a reasonable price, I managed to snap one up for £135 but new ones are about £300-£400 I have the ary too
What’s the spoiler?
No sound after fitting?
It was right at the beginning of video
Could you not move the top engine mounts a little to make clearance?
Yes there is slight movement available there, but good parts don't require it
Thanks from Texas 😊
Great video thanks 👍
Excellent 👍
Thanks for that. Is it really worth all that work?
It's not that much work, but yes the gains are noticable
Does fitting a larger diameter exhaust pipe really increase bhp? And by how may bhp if so?
It reduces restriction so that the turbo can operate more efficiently. I can't give you exact numbers, it's not quite as simple as that, as it's all about a good combination of modifications to get a combined improvement. It's also about moving the power curve to the left for more responsiveness. In short, it's worth it.
BWS TT some people say that decat and wider pipe decreases the back pressure. Would fitting decat and 3” all the way through cause any mechanical issue in the long term? Plus, Milltek 3” down pipe, decat pipe, cat back exhaust are very dear. I would say 1k altogether if you’re lucky to find the cheapest. Any recommendation as to where to get them from? Thank you
@@byoungsunmin7449 on a turbo car you want as little back pressure as possible, the turbo itself keep back pressure fine for the engine, but past that the best exhaust is no exhaust. As for costs of parts, I really couldn't advise, usually best to find second hand systems if cost is an issue
BWS TT are you a mechanic? Where are you based? I would like to get someone to fit these on mine rather than doing it myself, it looks too much work although doable. My 225 has been remapped to 270, so should work well with 3” exhaust system. Looking to eventually forge the BAM engine and fit a hybrid turbo on(I’ve already bought one with billet wheels which claim to give you 300bhp)
He is Mr TT
The fact that you don't need to push the clutch in to start it. So confused
That's only on newer cars
@@jamieholland3853 there's a RUclipsr I watch from the UK with a mk4 golf manual, he start it without pushing the clutch 🤔
It can be done by bypassing the neutral safety switch, but its not advice-able cause theres a reason its called a neutral safety switch.
Good work dood. I did this on my 225 LHD without pulling the subframe! At least i was working on a lift, but i still hated every moment of it.
You get a bit more manouvering room on the LHD because of the rack and the master cylinder, you also then get room to have a massive expansion section on the DP of you want!
Can you just cut the old one out so you don't have to drop steering rack etc?
