  • Can a boat Angler turn their hand to fishing from the shore ?
    Today we invited Mark from Manic fishing to fish with us. He is a competent and vastly experienced Boat Angler BUT i was intrigued to find out if he could adapt those skills to the beach.
    Join us as we enjoy some relaxed fishing in February 2025 from the Shingle Beach in Hastings.
    IT was a strange turn of events where mark introduces both a Boat Rod and rigs that can out perform what we have to offer on the Beach.
    Quite extraordinary to see that boat rod give a better bite indication than my continental shore rods!
    There are lots of ways you can interact with the channel but why not subscribe - we don't normally ask but at the moment there only 20% of viewers that subscribe to these videos. Subscribing and pressing the bell icon allows you to get weekly catch reports and keep abreast of whats happening.
    A real learning experience for me as i was expecting to give some guidence but ended up learning so much more- I hope you can pick up on some of this too.
    Mark has his own channel ‪@ManicFishing‬ and he will be uploading his point of view of todays video.
    It looks like there are a few dab around if you are fishing this weekend too. The rougher weather has brought in dogfish in greater numbers as well.

    Great upload thanks Matt! Good to see plenty of Dabs coming out. Looks like you and Mark had a good session.
    I'm marvelling at your new powers - "some relaxed fishing in February 2025", and have you been spending on a new reel? Not seen the Surfblaster 80000 (2.40)! 😁😁
    Things seem to get ever more hectic here. Not had chance to get out fishing since last year, and finding that I have very little time for RUclips any more. Priorities are not as I'd like them to be. Tight lines, stay safe & well, Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍

      LOL ! Thanks for the feedback Lee, Yes appreciate that maybe it was the wind making me think it was dragging it that way. Was it you that i spoke to about skishing ? if so here is the link to that method of drifting with the bass in the water.

    Another interesting video fishing in an area that I used to know very well and fished it a lot as I've previously said. Surprised that you only used 15lb bs line especially as brade is so fine, don't you ever get broken off? Way back when I fished there there weren't any fixed spool reals, only centrepins and multipliers. We mainly used cotton lines that had to be washed and dried after a session, monofilament was very hard and wirelike back then and didn't cast well. Very surprised how small those whiting were and even more so that you didn't get any cod. In the 1950s/1960s you certainly would have caught a few small codling up to about 10lbs, the larger ones were further offshore. By the way rockling are nice to eat. Wish that I'd discovered the channel earlier, looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.

      @SaltwaterAngler  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comments. 15 is fine on these shingle beaches. I’d love to see if I could cast a big centre pin ! Maybe not with cotton lines though

      @@SaltwaterAngler I certainly wasn't implying that it wasn't. I was just surprised and wouldn't have thought that it would been strong enough to land a 10lb cod especially against a strong tide. Maybe there's not enough of them about nowadays to worry about?

    Hi Matt, following on from your recent videos targeting Dabs, i took myself off down to Hythe for a sesson yesterday (Monday 12/2/24). Unfortunately i was plauged with double shots of Dogfish almost every cast :( I was fishing an hour up to high tide and 3 hours down, using Lugworm with size 1 hooks, 3 hook flapper, and a 1 up, 1 down clipped rig. Could not get through the dogs!

    Where in hasting would you say is the best mark for fishing??

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  7 месяцев назад +1

      This all depends on tide, weather conditions and seasons. To be honest for ease of fishing the Pier will probably produce the most fish. My records show wind direction most important factor.

    Nice video as always. Dabs a fairly rare down on the Dorset coast and the same applies to the Solent and I was wondering how far west from the Hastings area they remain prolific at this time of year. Any idea?

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  7 месяцев назад

      That’s a really interesting input there, shingle seems to be what they want - this recent run I’ve heard reports only as far as Eastbourne so wonder how Seaford was faring ?

    • @davidburgess2354
      @davidburgess2354 7 месяцев назад +1

      Interesting thoughts. However there are plenty of shingle beaches on my section of the Dorset coast and also around the Solent where most of the beaches are like this. Perhaps it has something to do with the lateral currents which increase noticeably as you head towards the straits of Dover with a marked decrease, with the exception being around harbours and estuaries, as you head westwards. Maybe some marine biologists could throw some light on the subject.@@SaltwaterAngler
