The thing I have always loved about Angelina is that she is not only willing to explore the ranges of her vocals but that she chooses to invite us all along. A 12 year old belting on camera for the first time doing a tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston and showing her fans without hesitation or apologies where she is as far as vocal development. Chris, it's a tribute. This was personal for her and she, too, adored Whitney. Some vocal coaches wrongly point out she was straining herself or she came up short with the very high notes. Angelina never strains her voice and is very careful with it. And, yes, she did extend herself on the high notes but she was comfortable doing it. I absolutely loved it and to me, it's the best "cover" of this song I've ever heard. Let me speak for all of her 'Angels' and say we are so proud of the way she sang this. She definitely sang this 'for us' and we appreciated it very much.
Angelina has no trouble taking on great vocalists. With this one, she's singing to a pre-recorded track that she didn't have any input into, so she couldn't jazz it up too much.. This, I believe, was her response to those who said she couldn't belt. The smile she gives at the end has a big 'See, I told you I could" vibe to it. 😎

Hello Chris! Thanks a lot for picking up on this right after "How Great Thou Art" to display her wide vocal range. We have to keep in mind that she had JUST turned 13 when she recorded this,meaning it's been almost three years. At 13 her lungs were FAR from fully developed (they still aren't, scary enough...lol ), and still she manges to pull off something like this. It's EXTREMELY impressive, to say the least. You can hear that she's struggling a bit to get enough air towards the end, but ONE gulp was all she needed to be back on full steam. This is one of the very few covers where she didn't venture off too much from the original, I like to think it was mainly due to her immense respect for Whitney. And I also believe that one of the main goals of this performance was to silence some critical tongues claiming that she couldn't belt. Her answer to that was "Hold my shoes..." you know ?? Lol Tell Angelina that there is something that she can't do vocally, and chances are high that she will prove you wrong. Chris. this was nothing short of perfection from a 12 year old girl. If I remember correctly this was a live in-studio performance and done in just ONE TAKE!!! How many artists around could accomplish that? The Barefoot Princess , The Angel with 1,000 voices is in a league all her own. No one else comes close. I pray every day that we will be able to enjoy Miss Angelina's superb vocals for many years to come!

My favorite singer for this reason, and after hearing this cover and tribute to Whitney I learned to relax and enjoy what Angelina was going to perform from then on. Thank you for your reaction. Some reactors did mention they can hear some of her jazz influence in the song. Another reactor dare his viewers to find a better cover of this performance of Angelina. I listened to more than 30 women singers of different ages but couldn't found a better version. I am a big Whitney Houston fan and listen to 2 live performances of her but was actually disappointed. It was not the same standard as her movie one. I also listen to very old videos of Whitney when she was young and the talent was there but not the same as Angelina.

I will agree that Whitney's studio performance will always be the best, but... in my opinion, this is better than any live version I've ever seen Whitney do. And this was a "Tribute" to Whitney, so I think she's doing Whitney. And you've got to remember, she hadn't turned 13 yet when she recorded this. Whitney was 29? This was supposedly in response to criticism that she couldn't hit high notes.
A couple of months after this she worked with David Foster on this song for a benefit concert and I'm sure she could do it better now after all he wrote the song, arranged it, and produced it for Whitney.

Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! We told you Angelina was in her own class and fearlessly goes and does what gives others the 'faints'! Here she is at 13yo planting another flag in the music landscape and doing it with no net! It is as though she alternates between using a 20lb hammer to drive nails and delicately catching butterflies immediately after each big blow. It is an exercise left for the student to consider what she could do with this if she did again now or in say 5 years! [Whitney was I believe 28yo for this]. Stay with AJ as you have many more surprises! And btw, she was using a track and it was a tribute to Whitney (so probably nix on a lot of extra touches). The takeaway might be to not worry about Angelina's musical choices. She's pretty sound at making them.

Larry, I think a "tribute" cover is normally an attempt to reproduce the original as closely as possible. Thus no jazz. My own opinion is that, at the time, there were discussions whether Angelina could belt with the best of them and I think that this is Angelina's answer to such a foolish question. Simply amazing. BTW, you have a great channel and you remind me of the solid guy who lives down the street in every neighborhood.
Every song doesn’t necessarily need Angelina’s “stamp” Chris (although this cover actually does in a more stealth-like manner). This was a “tribute” to Whitney, so Angelina respectfully doesn’t stray far from Whitney’s original version. Unlike the originally however, this song has Angelina’s trademark vocal fry throughout. I really wish there was a better term than “vocal fry”... the words don’t match the beauty in which Angelina performs the technique. Whatever you call it, it is an intrinsic hallmark of the tone and texture of her unique voice. Any sound emanating from her beautiful soul will always have that magic Angelina touch. I find Angelina the most fascinating singer out there.You never know what she is going to tackle simply because she has the vocal toolkit to do anything.And here's the kicker,no matter how spectacular that may be she can still improve it because her potential is only a fraction of what it will be in a decade or so.
She put her entire body and soul into this tribute, and she looked quite pleased with how it went, don’t you think? For a while there had been a persistently vocal group of commenters saying she was limited and couldn’t belt. Glad she decided to put that to rest.

My favorite singer for this reason, and after hearing this cover and tribute to Whitney I learned to relax and enjoy what Angelina was going to perform from then on. Angelina gave Whitney her Tribute and gave us the impact that Whitney had singing this song...I myself had teary eyes! and not to forget that she was 13 (12?) years old here! Thank you for your reaction. Some reactors did mention they can hear some of her jazz influence in the song. Another reactor dare his viewers to find a better cover of this performance of Angelina. I listened to more than 30 women singers of different ages but couldn't found a better version. I am a big Whitney Houston fan and listen to 2 live performances of her but was actually disappointed. It was not the same standard as her movie one. I also listen to very old videos of Whitney when she was young and the talent was there but not the same as Angelina.

I will agree that Whitney's studio performance will always be the best, but... in my opinion, this is better than any live version I've ever seen Whitney do. And this was a "Tribute" to Whitney, so I think she's doing Whitney. And you've got to remember, she hadn't turned 13 yet when she recorded this. Whitney was 29? This was supposedly in response to criticism that she couldn't hit high notes.

Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! We told you Angelina was in her own class and fearlessly goes and does what gives others the 'faints'! Here she is at 13yo planting another flag in the music landscape and doing it with no net! It is as though she alternates between using a 20lb hammer to drive nails and delicately catching butterflies immediately after each big blow. It is an exercise left for the student to consider what she could do with this if she did again now or in say 5 years! [Whitney was I believe 28yo for this]. Stay with AJ as you have many more surprises! And btw, she was using a track and it was a tribute to Whitney (so probably nix on a lot of extra touches). The takeaway might be to not worry about Angelina's musical choices. She's pretty sound at making them.

You doubted the barefoot princess ????? Lol i’ve been following her for about seven years now. She is absolutely an angel sent from heaven. There’s not a day goes by that I do not play for music. I am 53 years old and in my opinion her voice the way she arranges for songs it’s just something I’ve never seen in my lifetime especially being so young. Absolutely a gift from heaven !!!!!
Larry, I think a "tribute" cover is normally an attempt to reproduce the original as closely as possible. Thus no jazz. My own opinion is that, at the time, there were discussions whether Angelina could belt with the best of them and I think that this is Angelina's answer to such a foolish question. Simply amazing. BTW, you have a great channel and you remind me of the solid guy who lives down the street in every neighborhood.
You have to be insane to take on Whitney and to take this one on at such an age is total madness. Fortunately Angelina is insanely talented.

Every song doesn’t necessarily need Angelina’s “stamp” Chris (although this cover actually does in a more stealth-like manner).
This was a “tribute” to Whitney, so Angelina respectfully doesn’t stray far from Whitney’s original version. Unlike the originally however, this song has Angelina’s trademark vocal fry throughout. I really wish there was a better term than “vocal fry”... the words don’t match the beauty in which Angelina performs the technique.
Whatever you call it, it is an intrinsic hallmark of the tone and texture of her unique voice. Any sound emanating from her beautiful soul will always have that magic Angelina touch.
