- Today I take a look at an older video from Joey G here on RUclips unboxing his order from DKOldies. He got a crap ton of NES games and a System. The console is pretty rough! He may not feel like he got ripped off or scammed but I definitely think he did.

I used to be a retro-game collector.
One day, It suddenly hit me that I was a "shelf collector".
As all my collection was just sitting there. Collecting dust.
Especially whenever I had the urge to play old games, I'd just fire up my PC or modded OG Xbox and play emulated versions.
It was after that realization that I gradually offloaded my collection on eBay.
Got a nice chunk of change.
No regrets.
It’s pretty pointless. I won’t sell anymore of what I already have(a bite sized collection) but I can’t justify buying these old games for outrageous prices.
Haven’t used anything below PS3 in ages because it emulates well and it’s more convenient

Not me I play my retro games, my nes collection is around 75 games with more coming in soon, I collect for nes, snes, sega genesis and n64, will soon to be adding a good condition ps1 that I paid 22 bucks plus shipping for that comes with 4 controllers
$800 sheesh. The thing is, most people will play those games for about a few weeks, the nostalgia fades and then it sits or ends up in the closet.
Not me nes is my most played console and if i had a ps5 that would have the most dust probably.
Then when it comes time to offload them and resell them to a collector or a store which will only obviously t 50%-70% of their resale/FMV- value their jaw will hit the floor when they say "no way dude! I paid 900 for all this off DK oldies! I know what I have!", And then the knowledgeable staff informs them that they got completely fleeced and paid way over price for Commons.

damn, dude spent $800 and still got 3rd party accessories for his NES from one of the worst 3rd party companies. Also the av to hdmi converters are usually used for connecting to a tv that doesn't have composite ports or connect to a capture card (which I do). It blows up the image to 720p or 1080p but it isn't true HD
I can imagine blowing that image up would look like a train wreck
whats ironic is that most tv supports composite but not component and "Old Skool" anything is low quality trash.

@@steviefreakincmy Hisense google tv 43" 4k tv has composite outs on the back and honestly the GameCube and PS2 look phenomenal and has no lag. I've never bought into the converters, but I know some that are highly reviewed so I might give one a try sometime.

I am a retro game collector and I got an NES mint in box with instructions, the cards, the original Mario/Duck Hunt and first run gray light gun. And while it's mint, it certainly isn't worth over a grand!! This poor guy when DK saw the bling, they knew he was coming and ripped him the eff off!! That console is garbage!! Now I do have techniques to file and repair chips and damage and make it look good ,but it will never be what he paid for!!
I'm appalled at DK, and that POS AV to HDMI? Those are trash!!! The image is often white out, their are bars and artifact in the image, and it just looks like crap!! A pro could have offered a board level mod that will give the NES true HDMI that is top quality and it looks good plugging into the cabinet. And while it's more money, at least it could have been offered. Also, for the price of a few of these so called "Original Carts" you could get an Everdrive M8 that can have every single game NES and others have made. It's an SD card based "multigame" cart that will give you any game and for under a hundred bones. I truly feel sorry for anyone that believes Joey, or anyone from DK Oldies. Respectfully? They need to die off like that crap fest PC Builder "Artisanal Builds".

1. FREE: Emulators for pc/android/ios
2. CHEAP: China made Knock off consoles
3. EXPENSIVE: DKoldies
You can get a complete NES in box for like 200-300$

When he started unboxing all this, he slowly realised that nostalgia cost him some hard cash. But I think money is no big problem for him. If I'd see that chipping on the front, I'd be worried if the console is working at all. He doesn't seem to give crap about it it's working or not. So, it's not even a good as investment. It's really just display piece for him. I'm sure it'll look awesome on display with those chipped edges...
I would have been angry if i got ripped off for 800 dollars, all that hard earned money from one week worth of labor down flushing towards the drain.

@@Winner3ty yeah your right, i was thinking of buying a ps2 from dk oldies because of their advertisement but i had a bad feeling not to buy it, i wasn't sure why but a few months later passes by and a bunch of allegations popped out from dk oldies. How all of their consoles are not refurbished and that consoles are too overpriced for costumers budget.

I haven’t even watched the whole video yet and I immediately have found an issue. The first game he pulls out is made by Tengen which was not an official Nintendo game brand so it definitely did not originally come with an official Nintendo sleeve. So DKOldies already hosed him.
Yeah the tengen has the cardboard slip cover , i still have mine for one of my tengen games

I had to get a HDMI converter for my GameCube and it sucks. Sometimes I have to unplug it and plug it back it for the image to appear.
I figured it would be wonky

I bought a 3rd party NES controller from Gamestop that was on clearance that was made by a company called Cirka and it works good. I needed another because I prefer the square controller to the dog bone one that came with my top load NES. It's funny that in all these unboxings I've been seeing lately no one ever buys the top load system.
Top loader is great but u can only hook it up one way while og u had two options. Prob why most get the og. I have an og and a top loader. But i play my nes consoles alot so if one breaks down im still playing my nes games lol
Not only was there a chip on the front but there was also a broken piece on the left side corner as well
There is a difference between collecting physical having games stack up on shelves and not acctually playing video games
And acctually playing video games beating the game then trading away your entire physical collection to buy new games

Kind of cash, spent the extra $150-$200 to get an Open Source Scan Converter. Super low latency and you can upscale to 5x the original screen resolution. Looks great on an hdtv!

I've picked up a similar lot just a year ago on Facebook for 50 bucks. And this is why Dkoldies stays in business, uniformed people buying their stuff. Sad thing is not a single heavy hitter in that lot.

Honestly at this point we just need third party developers and companies to make an affordable but well-priced in a all-in-one fan retro console pack that isn't just cheap garbo from overseas that can play titles. I know there's a few already out there on amazon but the need for it is ever-increasing along with all in one cartridges. Then especially things like ps2, gamecube and a few xbox titles that are lost to time other than through emulation rather than on any form of native hardware.
It's time the scalpers and scammers that prey on our childhoods be outgunned and out marketed, unless it's literally mint-condition or high quality refurbished to a near original release finish? These things shouldn't cost as much as they do.
I definitely agree. I think Sony should release a 1080p PS2 with 500GB storage and the XMB interface. Sell digital PS Classics on there.

It's just a matter of convincing them it's a worthwhile endeavor, at least Nintendo seems semi-convinced with their nes and snes titles and now GBA titles on the switch than just pre-packaged consoles... but I hope for maybe something more physical or transferrable like what you're suggesting. At least easy storage anyway, I'm hoping with like what Microsoft did with the latest Xboxs basically able to be simply changed to Dev-Mode that game companies will follow suit/be more open to their consoles being used for other purposes or even as smaller computers.
Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft could really kill it with console computers that outgun most budget options.

I can't believe DK didn't include refurbished original controllers. Anything 'Old Skool' brand is the known as the cheapest most terrible product and should be avoided. Sort of par for the course for DKOldies, I suppose.
I've gotten these often from DK so they are pretty commonly included. They must have bought a whole bunch of them. Tested them against my Nintendo branded controller and found zero latency. No drift or lag. They're even better than the Cadet.

At 3:49... I have an AV to HDMI converter (not that exact one) and I use it when I take my modded Xbox to my friend's house and we all play Halo 2 on his flatscreen. It works nicely. They're probably different based on the manufacturer though....

Me 800 plus I go for heavy hitters all day at a convention I would come out happy cause I know that people that really dedicate all their time on the hobby give good deals and great game selection and good advice
Those AV to HDMI converters do indeed suck! They take 240p and interlace it and then upscale it to 720p, adding input lag on top of a terrible picture, probably OK for a VCR but that's it, those HD Link cables you see from Pound Technology, Hyperkin, Level Hike, etc are just the same, interlaced video upscaled to 720p, only difference is those use RGB so the picture ain't as bad, but you can never get the colors right, reds are either not red enough and look pink, or greens are washed out depending on your tint settings.
I always say buy it nice or buy it twice with cables

Such a waist! You get them all on a Pi build, Modded Wii, Og Modded Xbox, Emuelec Box, moddex 360, many others. $800+ and you'll be bored after a few. Kung Fu rocks! The NES Version is one of the Best...
Those HDMI converters aren't all that bad, you can get them for about 15$ and they work just fine.

I spent $80 at the pawn shop a year ago. Received a NES no cracks or bumps, light gun oem, two oem controllers, oem cables. Only a handful of cheap games though. But still, Imagine paying $1050 with a company and getting shit 3rd party everything and a console that is litrerally falling apart. If you find "scam" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of Joey from DKoldies smiling like a douche. I know this is an older video now, but it actually makes me mad they rip people off this bad.
And on top of that, Joey G in the video thinks he got a good deal and experience lol

That being said, there are a lot of people that spend money like this on this website because they just don’t know any better and aren’t even tech savvy enough to find prides and reviews online. I’m sure there are lots of older people who see a site like dkoldies and think it would be nice to buy their older adult kids something from their past. Or they might buy stuff from the site to show their grandkids or own kids the type of stuff they used to play.

OK so I am going to give a slightly different view. Yes this seems a lot and I’d prefer to see original controllers.. However I ordered Zanac from DK Oldies and they shipped it to London to England and it was about $35 including shipping. Game is amazing (my Pal NES has been adjusted to it plays NTSC games) and I am happy!
Definitely a W there. It’s not always bad buying from DK. Just depends on what you’re getting. Common games aren’t too overpriced there.
