It’s a whole season that combined all the worst parts of current Bungie storytelling for Destiny -Bad melodrama -Shallow soap opera motivations, characters and dialogue -thinking character drama is more interesting than exploring cool theoretical cosmic concepts and ideas
Also messed with the Vex's identity by having yet ANOTHER outlying power take control of them rather than them enacting their own decisions. Add to this the smaller inconsistencies that retconned various things about prior Destiny releases (Failsafe's state of being, the Sundial's functions, simulation functionality) and this might actually be, in terms of objective quality, the worst Destiny seasonal story. Though I think I may dislike Plunder's more still.
Actually they put into the foreground the concept of alternate timeline existential dread kind of concept that was introduced back in D1 vanilla grimoire, it is rather nice seeing it being brought into the front.
I thought the character drama was great for the most part, really the sort of story you can't tell without fantasy or scifi (I have never personally gone scouring timelines to find the perfect version of an ex-lover, maybe you have). The finale definitely felt like an anticlimax though.
Hard disagree on the last one: the cosmic concepts are interesting BECAUSE they are examined through the lens of excellent characters. It's just that their character work hasn't been good, but you can't leave out the characters.
Character drama should be second to world building Destiny is at its strongest when they do world building for example the Books of Sorrow, the great disaster, and witch queen. In the later the drama about Ikora was second to the mystery of how the hive gained the light.
guys, stop putting us in the cutscene if we're not going to do anything 😂 so wild that we go from killing The Witness, a threat beyond threats, to being pushed around by Lakshmi 2 Electric Boogaloo

I got 2 problems with this season Why did bungie say episodes were self contained when maya isnt dead Also why didnt we fight her. Having this a boss fight wouldve been way better then just watching ikora throw a nova at her
They are self contained in the sense that it is wrapping up the fallout of the Witness’ defeat. And we did fight her though indirectly though the Hydra, hence why she appeared weakened in this scene.

@@MW2proification I guess I should've said humans (exo in this case) not human sized and in pve I think it'd be neat to fight another person rather then an alien. Also could've made for a cool boss as normally all we get are larger hive knights and hydras
@@MW2proification1. That's not what self contained means, 2. The echo and Maya are still out there out of our reach, so it's not self contained at all. And finally, fighting a hydra is not equivalent to fighting her.
Even for its flaws, Echoes can also show how some people will do whatever it takes to justify their actions- Maya tried to do that when her Chioma was found and she was disgusted by her. Other villains we’ve seen in Destiny have been that way too- the Witness’ main soul assumed he was the only one to decide others’ fates, Savathun acted as if she was following the Traveler’s true intentions all so she could be able to surpass the Witness and keep the Light for herself, etc. Maya Sundaresh as the Conductor is just the latest example of that type of villain who will never see how in the wrong they are for their actions, and the fact she tried to justify killing all those other versions of Chioma, even the one from her own simulation just because how she wanted her to be, shows that she is really twisted deep down and likely always was, with nothing she claims being able to show otherwise or contradict her.
We should have stepped up and punished Maya for thinking she ever stood a chance. We've been saving the world for 10 years, now. We just killed the most powerful evil entity the galaxy has ever known. Let the cutscenes we're in reflect that!!
I thought it was just another scene and we’d get more later. Seriously she’s defeated but not dead and we’re just gonna let her peacefully drift down the river? Complete fail.
